Topic: How freedom of speech plays a vital role on every individual’s lives?
A. Questions:
1. How does having freedom of speech inspired you to become who you are
today?
Possible Answer: Freedom of speech helped me establish and found my
standing ground. It inspired me to express what I truly feel, convey my
insights, and unsaid thoughts, ideas and opinions.
2. Do you think freedom of speech helps an individual connect with his/her
society?
Possible Answer: Yes, freedom of speech helps an individual connect with
their society. Connection starts from an interaction of a two or more persons
that interact with one another, exchanging dialogues, ideas, and opinions
that are not limited nor controlled by any entity but themselves. Thus, this
create a bond of each individual that has the same interest and the same
invoice wherein freedom of speech takes its sphere.
3. Cite at least one situation where we have to limit our freedom of speech.
Possible Answer: Not in every situation freedom of speech takes its part.
There are also times in our lives that we have to limit our freedom of
speech, such as to prevent hate speech— discrimination; hostility against
individuals based on their race, ethnicity, culture, etc.; and any expressions
or incite violence that can cause trouble and conflict.
4. Do you think freedom of speech has significant impact in our society?
Possible Answer: Yes, freedom of speech has significant impact in our
society. Individually, freedom of speech gives freedom for the people to
express and speak for themselves. Holistically, freedom of speech
contributed positive impact not just to the people but also to the society
and community where they belonged.
5. What is the effects of having freedom of speech to you as a citizen?
Possible Answer: Freedom of speech guided me to become a good citizen
in our State. I was able to express myself freely without being held back
with any hindrance. I was able to show and tell the world my ideas, insights,
and opinions in an appropriate and accepted way possible.
B. Freedom of Speech as an Inspiration to who have they become.
Different individuals but has the same perspective of how freedom of
speech inspired them to become who they are today. The respondents were
interviewed at different location, time, and situation, however has the common
and similar answer regarding the question. According to them, Freedom of speech
allows them to express themselves without hiding their true feelings, emotions,
and insights. Based on one of our respondents, because of freedom of speech he
was able to express himself not just by justifying his word of choice but also
acquired the courage to embrace his gender identity as a bisexual Freedom of
speech truly has a powerful impact in our society that brought fearlessness to the
hearts of every people no matter the age, gender, status, or race.
C. People’s Connection with one another through Freedom of Speech.
“Voice is a very powerful tool”, indeed it is. One of the interviewee stated
that with the help of Freedom of Speech, voices of every individual can create a
bond where people can share their opinions and thoughts, suggest and
recommend ideas that can contribute to the growth and unity of the society. By
communicating with others while acquiring the freedom of speech, a person would
be able to gain new perspective about how he or she perceive various aspects in
his or her own way.
D. Situation wherein we have to limit our Freedom of Speech.
According to one of the respondent, when it comes to political industry here
in Philippines, concerning political issues are taken sensitively and seriously.
Though we have freedom of speech, we have the chance to freely cite our opinions
and be heard, however, in expressing our thoughts and opinions might brought
complexity. Due to this reason, a person must be mindful of his boundaries. As
one of the respondents stated that someone should know when to listen and when
to talk. This connotes that, people can’t always express their opinions without
being cautious because this might create a big problem not only affecting the
persons involved in it but also the mass.
Other respondents also agreed on a certain situation and that is taking no
advantage on their freedom of speech just to bully others. Bullying nowadays is
very prominent, threatening a peaceful society into something chaotic. By
preventing oneself in abusing their freedom of speech, they can contribute
positively and greatly to the prosperity of a community.
E. Significant Impact of Freedom of Speech
There are two major impact that the freedom of speech possess which
maintains the stability and balance of our society and those are the positive impact
and negative impact. Base on our respondents, freedom of speech brought upon
the faces of each community the sense being free without being judge. We were
all able to express and convey what we really feel. Our expressions were validated
with value for it serve as a very important matter in each and every one of us.
Nevertheless, still freedom of speech cannot prevent anyone from abusing it. The
negative impacts and outcomes provides alarming issue and scenario that triggers
chaos and war. However through this negative matters, people and our community
tried to enhance and develop.
F. Effects of Freedom of Speech as a Citizen.
Freedom of speech helps an individual to actively participate on the State
and to every course of action that their community was dealing with. Acquiring the
right amount of knowledge about the freedom of speech can make a good citizen.
G. Reflection
Hearing various thoughts about freedom of speech brought us to a new
perceptions and ideas. We have the chance to reflect on ourselves and give
definition of how freedom of speech took part on our daily lives as a significant
part of our human being. Without this kind of freedom, what would be the world’s
condition today? Asking this to ourselves helps us realize that we truly are very
fortunate to taste the freedom without being constraint nor controlled. This activity
also helps us to regain our self-awareness and consciousness about reality.
Freedom of speech truly contributed a huge part for the betterment of the world
and it is up to us to use it correctly and appropriately.
In conclusion, without freedom of speech everything is dark. People does
not have the freedom to express themselves and misses the chance to embrace
their own self. This freedom should not be taken for granted for it can cause
serious consequences. Overall, freedom of speech should be valued and protected.
