The course is designed to introduce statistical principles and their application to qualitative and
quantitative research in health services and to provide students’ knowledge and skills to present,
analyze data and make an inference about a given population.
Course Objectives:
On completion of the course learners will be able to:
Define various statistical terms.
Understand uses and importance of biostatistics
Describe the various statistical principles and methods used in health sciences.
Describe the use of statistics in research studies.
Explain the rules of descriptive and inferential statistics in data analysis.
Arrange data and its computation.
Compute statistical results.
Critique the use of statistical measure for selected studies.
Teaching/Learning Strategies:
Interactive discussions, presentation, group activities, visual aids, case studies, slides, role-plays
and field visits.
Course Expectations:
1. Attend all lectures as per policy.
2. Pre-reading and preparation for each class.
3. Completion of quizzes and examination on due dates.
