24 Conversion of Km into m.
Period 3
Hook : Word problem

Rita travels to Mysore by car the distance from

Bengaluru to Mysore is 140 km, find the
distance traveled in meters.
Teacher tells
Distance from Bengaluru to Mysore is 140 km
1km = 1000 mts
So to find for 140 km we have to multiply with
1000
140×1000
=140000 mts

One more example is taken to teach the

concept
Ex. Convert 65 km to mts
1km = 1000m
65 × 1000 = 65000 mts

She then makes them complete the textbook

activity

Period 4 Hook: Word problem
Gita bought a cable wire of 3 mts. Convert the
mts to cm and tell the measurement in cm.

Teacher tells Gita bought 3 mts of cable wire

1 meter = 100 cm
To convert mts to cm what do we have to do?
EA multiply by 100
Yes, so
3× 100 = 300 cm
She takes 2 more examples to teach the

Period 5 km

Hook Word problem

Tina's house is 2456m from her school.
Calculate the distance in km.
Teacher tells the distance is 2456m
1 km = 1000 m
So to convert mts to km we have to divide by
1000
2456 ÷ 1000
2 km 456 m

She then teaches a few more related sums.

Then make them complete the textbook

apples. How do they measure the apples in
terms of what units?
E.A : kg

When you visit a Jewellery shop. How do you

purchase gold, do you purchase in kgs?
E.A :No, in grams

Teacher says the solid weights are measured

in terms of kg and grams.
Then she says 1kg = 1000gms.

Explains the case study and asks them to find
answers for the given questions, using the

10
weights brought by students

My pet dog weighs 7kg.What is the weight of

my dog in grams ?
Teacher tells the dog weighs 7 kg

To convert kilogram into gram we should

multiply by 1000.

Explanation : 1 kg =1000g ( write it on the

board )

My pet dog weight is = 7kg

=7×1000
=7000 g

She then takes one more example to teach the

concept.

Example :

What is its weight in kg ?
Teacher tells the weight of the bar is 6000
gms.
To convert gms to kg we have to divide by
1000

11
Ex : 6000g
1kg = 1000g

24 Day- 1 Measures of Capacity
Period 1

Hook: Teacher shows 1 kg dal packet and 1 l

oil packet and asks one child to read the
quantity written on the packets.
Then she asks what is the difference
between these two?
EA : one is written kg another written as L

Then the teacher asks why both are written in

different ways?
EA : Because dal is solid so we measure it in
kg. Oil is in liquid form so it is measured with
liters.

Then the teacher shows a tetra pack of frooti

and asks one child to read the quantity.
EA: 100 ml
Then she asks why on the oil packet it is

14
written L and on frooti ml even though both
are liquids?
EA: because frooti is small in quantity we use
ml and oil quantity is large we use L.

Yes children, For larger quantities we use

liters to measure liquids and for smaller
quantities we use milliliters.

Later the teacher shows one empty water

bottle and asks to fill that bottle with a glass.
How many glasses of water does the bottle
hold?
EA: 5

Then the teacher explains that the quantity of

liquid that any container holds is called the
capacity of that particular container.

Teacher tells we measure the quantity of

liquids and capacity of containers in liters and
milliliters.

Later the teacher asks the children to open

their textbook and complete the textbook
activity page number 121W.E - 1 Q- 1,2 and
recap.

Teacher assigns the Hw
