A. Introduction Shampooing the hair before hair lightening
Panimula 110 min. Shampooing is an essential part of hairdressing treatment. To make the
hair manageable for coloring processes, it must be thoroughly cleansed
of all dirt, natural grease, and hairstyling products.
Hairstyling products such as hairspray, mousse, and wax
will cause a barrier between the hair and the chemical
and will cause an unsuccessful result.
Note: Water temperature is very important to consider
when wetting and shampooing the hair. Hot water
stimulates the scalp and opens the cuticle, assisting the
cleansing process.
Procedure for Application of Lightener
1.Start the application where the hair is darkest,
usually at the nape. Take 0.5 cm partings and
starting 2 cm away from the scalp, apply the
lightener to the middle lengths and ends. If the
ends prove too porous during the preliminary
strand test, leave them untreated until the mid-
lengths have reached the required color depth.
Apply the mixture to the fingers. The lightener is
applied to the middle lengths first because the heat
from the scalp speeds up the lightening action and
so the roots develop the color quicker.
2.Place sections against each other but do not pack
them against the scalp.
3.Continue with each section, moving towards the
front until the four quarters are covered. Do not
com mixture through the hair length.
4.When the hair starts to lighten (10 to 20 min.)
start to apply lightener to the roots. Staring at the
darkest area, lay mixture on quickly and
methodically with a brush. Do not stab the brush
into the roots, as this can cause discomfort and
possibly inflammation. It is not advisable to keep
dabbing over the same areas as this may start to

take the mixture off the roots with the brush.
5.Continue finishing with the front top section (this
hair is slightly lighter because of exposure to
sunlight and therefore more porous) Keep parting
small and check if there are missed spots, If the
ends were omitted at the start because they were
too porous apply the mixture to them now. Pile the
hair on top of the head but do not pack it down.
Monitor the processing to ensure that heat is not
being generated in any single area. The processing
time will depend on the following:
 Strength of the hydrogen peroxide and the
proportions of the mixture;
 Degree of lightening desired; and
 The texture of the hair
6.Leave for 10 minutes and do a strand test by
wiping a mall strand at the nape with cotton wool
or tissue. If the hair is not light enough, reapply the
mixtures to this area. Test every five minutes.
Avoid sliding the tail of the tint brush along the
scalp as this will lift the mixture off the cause
patchiness in the roots area.do not attempt to
comb the mixture through and do not let it dry out
on the hair as this can cause hair damage. If dry
the mixture also stops working and patchy results
are well obtained. For this reason, using any form
of the accelerator, except perhaps a steamer, is not
recommended. However, streamers tend to leave
the color too warm.

7.When the hair reached the required degree of

lightening it is important that the mixture be
removed correctly. Rinse all their powder mixture
thoroughly from the hair, even though the mixture
washed readily from the hair, it must still be
shampooed out. Rinse and lather again to ensure
that the hair is free from the light mixture.
8.A toning rinse can be applied to the lengthened
hair to
neutralize unwanted reflect conditioner or an
antioxidant can be applied after the final rinse to
assist combing and to reduce the chance of over-
oxidation of the hair. Pat dry carefully and come
gently from the ends with a wide-tooth comb.
If you are slowly applying the lightener, a double
mixing may be necessary as the Lightener can be
become exhausted after 40 minutes or so. Mix only
half the lightener first and then apply. Then mix the
balance and apply again. This will give a uniform
lightning action over the entire head.
Highlights the Hair
Highlighting is a popular procedure that could give a natural look to the
hair and particularly becoming to clients whose complexion is dark or
tanned. Some clients want to highlight to give a lighter overall effect
without having to have their hair retouches regularly.

Classification of highlighting and Highlighting Method

The type of highlights required will influence to be used. There are
numerous ways to achieve highlighting effects. These include foiling
method, cap streaks, comb-on application, and using other specialized
tools is designed to separate hair strands that are being colored.
Partial coloring can be achieved using the weaving technique
or pull-through method. Meshes or foils are suitable for full head
weaving. When carrying out the foil/mesh method, small
sections of hair are weaved evenly throughout the head. The
sections are placed on the foil. The chosen product is then
applied to produce the desired effect. Tinting caps or plastic
strips can be used for the pupil through the method. Strands of
hair ate evenly pulled highlight or lowlight.
The foil technique is a popular one in today’s salon,
which involves covering the selected meshes in
lightener and folding each one individually in a
rectangular piece of foil. Pre-cut tin foil for this
technique is available from manufacturers. With this
technique, you can select where the meshes will be put, whether in the
underneath sections or on the top layer. Foil meshes are also best suited
to the client with long hair.
The cap streaking involves using a plastic cap and a
crochet needle. The plastic cap is worn snugly to the skull.
Tin strands of hair are then pulled through the cap using a
small hole cap. The hair is pulled through the cap using
the crochet needle. Highlight color will then be applied to
the gathered hair. This technique helps to avoid
unbalanced results in the finished look.
Clients Comfort and Protection
In hair bleaching, be extra careful so that the
chemicals used should not meet the scalp and
surrounding skin. Barrier cream should be used around
the hairline and on top of the ears. Extra care should
be given with very fine hair. Since bleaching will
remove the color from hair, it is important to protect the client's clothes
from any damage through accidental spillage of products. Make sure that
the client is comfortable throughout the coloring g process.
Safety measures in Hair bleach/highlighting the hair
 Always ensure that chemicals are fresh
 Always give the client a preliminary strand test
 Never use anything made of metal because the chemical will
react to the metal; use plastic instead.
 Protect your hands by wearing when applying the mixture.
 Always analyze the hair and scalp of the client before
proceeding.
 When applying barrier cream to the client, avoid getting any
cream on the hairline as it will prevent the lightener from taking.
 Do not comb the lightener through.
 Do not pack the hair down during the processing as this will
inhibit the oxidation action.
 Rinse the hair by using a tepid and not too hot water
