EA 300: Management of Education and School Administration I

Course Description

This course serves as an introduction to both educational management and organizational theory
as fields of study. The course provides undergraduate education students with an understanding
of administrative, managerial, and organizational theories, principles, and concepts relevant for
the management and administration of educational systems and institutions, with specific
reference to Tanzania. The course also provides education students with an understanding of the
structures, processes, and practices taking place in education system and institutions, with
specific reference to Tanzania.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, students should be able to:


1. Disentangle the concepts of management, administration, leadership and organizations theory
as used in education.
2. Describe and apply theories to explain educational management and administrative practices
3. Analyze the management of education and discern the quality of effective management.
4. Discern administrative processes and task areas related to education.
5. Analyze educational organizations and professional bureaucracies.
6. Apply the acquired knowledge in solving day-to-day leadership, management and
administrative problems in educational institutions in Tanzania.
