Sandvik Mining Equipment recommends using fluids or lubricants that are appropriate for your
machine and the environment in which the machine will be operating. To prevent unnecessary
maintenance and maintain a high-level of machine performance, fluids and lubricants that are
selected should meet with the specifications defined in this document and be of the highest grade
and quality available.
This document lists and defines specifications for fluid and lubricants used throughout Sandvik’s
entire product line. Not all fluids and/or lubricants defined in this document may be applicable to
your unit. When choosing fluids and/or lubricants from this specification, first identify the major
components on your machine that require a fluid or lubricant, then select the fluid and/or lubricant
that possesses the physical properties best-suited for your application and environment.
Industry Specifications
The following chart lists components, types of fluids or lubricants, and specific temperatures at
which each fluid or lubricant may be safely used. If the machine is operating in ambient
temperatures not listed in the table below, see the component manufacturer’s manual for
specifications or contact your local Sandvik Mining and Construction regional office
representative.
NOTE: For more information regarding the fluids or lubricants listed below, see the descriptions
of each given later in this section.
CAUTION: The use of fluids or lubricants which do not comply with listed requirements will cause
rapid wear and damage to machine parts.

* ASTM stands for the American Society for Testing and Materials.
** SAE stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers.
***NLGI stands for the National Lubricating Grease Institute.
NOTE: For operating temperatures below 30° F (1° C), refer to the component manufacturer’s
documentation or contact your local Sandvik Mining and Construction regional office
representative.
Coolant (If Equipped) Antifreeze Super Diesel (50/50) Hall Chemical Mfg. Inc.
Diesel Fuel
The manufacturer of the engine used in this machine only approves diesel fuel which meets
certain high standards. Use of fuels that do not meet these standards will prevent the engine from
reaching its designed capacity. As a result, the machine will be unable to provide the performance
and function needed.

Flash Point (Minimum) 100° F (38° C) 125° F (52° C)
NOTE: Low-sulphur diesel fuels with a sulphur content of less than 0.05% may be used, as long
as adequate engine lubrication is ensured by admixing additives. Contact your fuel
supplier for more information.
Engine Oil
Unless otherwise specified by the engine manufacturer, use a petroleum based, premium grade
crankcase oil with detergent additives. The engine oil must meet American Petroleum Institute
(API) CJ-4 standard and have an SAE viscosity of 15W-40.
NOTE: For further specifications and recommendations, refer to the engine manufacturer’s
documentation in the Power Unit chapter.
CAUTION: This engine oil specification applies to engines operating under ambient temperature
ranges of 20° F to 120° F (-7° C to 49° C). If the operating conditions are outside of this
range, refer to the engine manufacturer’s documentation.
NOTE:
Deutz has specified that all closed (non vented) crankcase BFM1013FC engines must use 100%
synthetic engine oil.
The 100% synethic engine oil must meet or exceed Deutz DQCIII-05 (ACEA E4-99/E6-04) grade
as detailed in Deutz Technical Circular TR 0199-99-3002 EN.

Ball-Bearing Grease
The use of a non-EP (Extreme Pressure), lithium-based ball-bearing lubricant with an NLGI No. 2
consistency grade is recommended for all electric motor drive bearings. The chosen lubricant
must be specifically designed for high speed, anti-friction bearings in electric components.
The following are the basic properties required:
Hydraulic Oil
Unless otherwise specified by the original equipment manufacturer, use a petroleum based
(mineral type), premium quality oil with anti-wear additives.
CAUTION: The chosen oil must not contain additives harmful to BUNA-N (Nitrite), Viton, or
neoprene rubber compounds.
This oil may only be used in hydraulic, hydrostatic, and brake actuation systems that operate
between 25° F and 175° F (-4° C to 73° C).
Engine oil being used as hydraulic oil must meet U.S. Military Specification MIL-L-46152 and
American Petroleum Institute (API) CC or CD standards.
CAUTION: Do not use an oil that exceeds 4000 SUS at start-up, or one that drops below 80 SUS
during normal operation.
It is the responsibility of the equipment owner to ensure that the oil is of a high quality. If
possible, obtain a copy of a manufacturer’s certified lab test report attesting to the contents,
quality, and performance limits of oils available.

NOTE: If your machine is working in environments where temperatures are extremely low or
extremely high, water/coolant mixture ratios can be adjusted to suit. Contact your coolant
supplier to determine which mixture ratio is best suited for your ambient temperature
conditions.
NOTE: Antifreeze/coolant containing ethylene glycol or other coolant-intended chemicals must
be stored and disposed of properly according to local, federal, and state/provincial
regulations.
CAUTION: Avoid using supplemental coolant additives that contain silicate. Silicate is used in
automotive systems to protect aluminium radiator cores from corrosion. It is not
suitable for copper radiator cores.

Dexron II D
NOTE: Dexron II D hydraulic oil is incompatible with the transmission and torque converter
included with this machine, unless it meets the approved C-3 specifications. Refer to the
transmission and torque converter manufacturer’s service manual for further information.
NOTE: The typical factory fill uses a fluid suitable for ambient temperatures of -10° F (-23° C) or
higher.
Multi-Purpose Grease
Unless specified otherwise in this manual or in the manufacturer’s documentation, use a multi-
purpose type grease manufactured with lithium soap and a NLGI No. 2 consistency grade on all
grease points. The grease used must also conform to ASTM D1743 rust test standards and pass
the ASTM D130 copper corrosion test.

NOTE: NLGI Grade No. 2 is suitable for most temperatures. NLGI No. 1 and No. 0 are suitable
for low temperatures.

Disposal Considerations
All fluids and lubricants mentioned previously may meet the requirements of a hazardous waste
classification. It is highly recommended by Sandvik and the fluid/lubricant manufacturer’s that
the local, federal, or state/provincial authorities be contacted before waste materials are disposed
of.
