Leh Ladakh in June: A Journey to the Roof of the World
Settled in the heart of the Himalayas, Leh Ladakh is a fantasy fulfilled. The clear blue skies,
chilled air and breathtaking landscapes make this the perfect time to explore this high
altitude, god-gifted desert.
As my journey commenced, the snow-capped mountains greeted me with their glorious and
immense presence. The moment I set my eyes upon the grandeur of these mountains, I felt so
small and safe as though I was being cuddled by the warm yet cold embrace of a blanket. The
weather in June was pleasantly cool, combined with the gentle sun cast upon the rugged
terrain and the clear blue skies, it was a breathtaking panorama which cannot be explained
into words.
One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the Thiksey Monastery and Hemis Monastery.
The spiritual aura and the old architecture of these monasteries transported me to a different
time than our own, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh. You can also
attend the Hemis Festival in June which is a vibrant celebration of Ladakhi culture. It is a two
day festival which essentially celebrates the victory of good over evil. There are multiple
dance and musical performances. The main Chaam Dance is performed by the monks and
lamas which is a sight to behold. You cannot take your eyes off this particularperformance.
Another mesmerising sight to behold would be the Pangong Tso Lake. The colourful
landscape of the lake instils a sense of calm while the mountains which surround it energises
you.
In conclusion, Ladakh is a blend of natural beauty, spirituality and rich cultural heritage. It
will welcome you with open arms and has something for everyone, whether you are an
adventure enthusiast or a history buff. It is a must visit destination for those seeking paradise
on Earth.
