1. universe [ yoo·nuh·vrs ] (Noun) - the whole of space and everything in it, including
the earth, the planets and the stars
Many predicted the end of the universe in 1999, but the world kept spinning.
2. sign [ sine ] (Noun) - an event, an action that shows that something exists, is
happening, or may happen in the future
If I had noticed the warning signs, none of this would have happened.
3. stuck [ stuhk ] (Adjective) - unable to move or to be moved
The wheels were stuck in the mud.
4. paradigm [ peh·ruh·dime ] (Noun) - a typical example or pattern of something
Pretty, intelligent, and kind, Anna is the paradigm of the perfect woman.
5. paradise [ peh·ruh·dise ] (Noun) - a perfect place where people are said to go when
they die; an ideal place or state
This place is what my father would call a paradise, with wide open spaces on all sides.
6. hell [ hel ] (Noun) - the place believed to be the home of devils and where bad people
go after death; a very unpleasant experience or situation in which people suffer very
much
The last three months have been hell.
7. Nirvana [ nr·vaa·nuh ] (Noun) - (in Buddhism) the state of peace and happiness that
a person achieves after giving up all personal desires
Entering Nirvana is only possible for those who have become pure.
8. advertise [ ad·ver·tahyz ] (Verb) - to tell the public about a product or a service to
encourage people to buy or to use it
You need to advertise if you want to gain customers.
9. paralyze [ peh·ruh·lize ] (Verb) - to make somebody unable to feel or move all or part
of their body; to prevent something from functioning normally
The snake's venom paralyzed the mouse.
10. karma [ kaar·muh ] (Noun) - the belief that your actions and choices can shape your
life and the next
John's bad luck proves karma is paying him back for his misdeeds.
11. reward [ ruh·word ] (Noun) - a thing that you are given because you have done
something good, worked hard
If you study hard and get good grades, your parents may buy you a laptop as a
reward.
12. terradome (Noun) - a self-contained ecosystem designed to mimic Earth’s natural
conditions within a confined space
Terradomes can support agriculture and provide fresh produce in challenging
environments.
13. hysterical [huh·steh·ruh·kl ] (Adjective) - in extreme excitement, and crying, laughing,
without any control
His hysterical laughter stunned everybody.
14. sick of (something/someone) (Idiom) - to express that you are tired of something; to
express you don't like something anymore
I'm sick of you constantly being late when we go out.
15. intrusive thoughts (Noun) - unexpected images or thoughts that seem to pop into
your head is often strange and distressing
My therapist suggested I keep a journal to help me control my intrusive thoughts.

Homework
