Symptom
Download or print to a PDF file does not work or the quality is not as expected.
"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is
purely coincidental."

Environment
SAP NetWeaver all releases

Reproducing the Issue


Print or download to a PDF file from SAP.

Cause
Virtual PDF printers are not supported.

Customer's may use them with their own responsibility.


They might work with a Windows device type like SWINCF or SAPWIN but it is not guaranteed.

Resolution
There are supported methods to print to a PDF file from SAP as follows.
1. Print via a PDF device type to a PDF file from SAP.
Use an output device defined with Frontend Access Method G or F and device type PDFUC or PDF1.
Set up a 'Print to File' printer in the Windows Print Manager of the Frontend PC as described in Note 576973 via the
following steps:
'From the "Devices and Printers" in your Frontend PC, select "Add a Printer" as below.

On the window that appears, select the option "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings" as
below and click on Next.]
On the next screen, select the port FILE as below and click on button "Next"

On the subsequent screen select the "Generic/Text Only" driver and click on button "Next".

Enter 'Printer Name' e.g. FILEPRINTER.


Share as: eg: FILEPRINTER.
Finish.

2. You can download spools from SP01 to a PDF file as follows.


From the SP01 display, mark the spool and from the menu select Spool Request -> Forward -> Export as PDF. This
works for all types of spool request (ABAP List, SAPscript Form, Smart Forms, PDF spools generated by ADS).PDF
converter is used before download for non PDF spool requests;
The PDF merger can be used for multi-part PDF spool requests to combine then into a single PDF as per notes 2264208
and 2237181.
