Religious Studies Schemes 25 10 2014
1
FOREWARD
A recent change in the GCE syllabus for 585 Ordinary Level Religious Studies and in the structure of its examination
necessitates a re-working of the schemes of work to accommodate those changes. The said changes are reflected in the
preliminary pages of the schemes. Like the first issue, the second edition of these schemes is the combined effort of the
Regional Association of Teachers of Religious Studies (RATER), The Teacher’s Resource Unit (TRU) in collaboration with
the Inspectorate of Pedagogy for Social Sciences. The schemes are designed to meet the needs of both teachers and students by
making the course material available and broken down into atomic units to ease lesson preparation, teaching and learning.
Given the broad and elaborate nature of the course material, it is strongly recommended that it should be taught in two years,
teaching at least two periods a week. However, the teacher on the spot must do just what suits his/her situation in terms of time
and the choice of the sections to treat.
Many members of the Association of Teachers of Religious Studies have put in time, energy and money to realize this
project. We may not mention their names here, nevertheless we must thank Mr. Henry Mumandam and Mme Nsalaf Mariama,
for their sacrifices. Like any human endeavour, there may be some inadequacies, please kindly send your constructive
criticisms to:

ADVANCED LEVEL 785 RELIGIOUS STUDIES
SCHEMES OF WORK
13
FOREWARD
A communiqué of the Registrar of the Cameroon GCE board dated the 28 th of January 2014 informed the public in general,
principals and potential candidates that as from the June 2015 session the GCE Advanced Level Examinations in 785-Religious
Studies will have some pertinent changes. The said changes necessitate a re-working of the schemes of work to accommodate
those changes. The changes are indicated in the preliminary pages of the schemes. Like the first issue, the second edition of
the schemes is the combined effort of the Regional Association of Teachers of Religious Studies (RATER), The Teacher’s
Resource Unit (TRU) in collaboration with the Inspectorate of Pedagogy for Social Sciences. The schemes are designed to
meet the needs of both teachers and students by making the course material available and broken down into atomic units to
ease lesson preparation, teaching and learning. The expected objectives mentioned in the schemes are such that they meet the
expectations of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Given the broad and elaborate nature of the course material, it is strongly recommended
that it should be taught in two years, teaching at least two periods a week. The schemes are segmented to cover a period of two
years in a certain order which serves only as a guide to the individual teacher. It is recommended that individual teachers on the
spot should use his /her discretion depending on his/her actual situation in terms of time and choice of the section treated in
papers II and III.
Many members of the Association of Teachers of Religious Studies have put in time, energy and money to realize this
project. We may not mention all their names here; nevertheless we must thank Mr. Jaff Charles and Rev Chebineh Godlove
for their sacrifices. Like any human endeavour, there may be some inadequacies, please kindly send your constructive
criticisms to:
