ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Utmost gratitude is given to God Almighty for giving knowledge, wisdom, skills, guidance,
protection, good health, and strengths throughout this immersion. The completion of the
immersion activities and this portfolio was made possible by his presence and it is by his will
that these learnings and experiences has come into reality. To God b the Glory!
To my family, who has guided me and supported me throughout this immersion. You have
molded me into who I am today, without your love, constant advice and support, I would not be
who I am now.
To my friends, thank you for your unending support and encouragement. To my classmates, we
went there together and together we returned. Throughout our immersion we have been there to
support each other during our high and lows we have encountered, without all of you this
immersion will not be as fun and interactive as it has been.
To our teachers who devoted their time and effort to visit us and secure our safety and for their
constant reminder to be strict in time and schedule. To the faculty of the DPWH Ifugao Second
District Engineering Office thank you for allowing us to experience being an engineer that gave
us another set of skills, knowledge and new learnings that we can apply when we enter college
life.

DEDICATION
I dedicate this Work Immersion Portfolio to my family who has always been there and supports
me in all my endeavors to mold what I wish to become in life. This portfolio would not be a great
success nor be possible without their moral and financial support. They have been a big part of
what I have learned and in the experiences that has made me who I am today.
To the faculty of the DPWH Ifugao Second District Engineering Office for serving as an
inspiration that made us enlighten to the path that we will take in the future.

PART I: INTRODUCTION
Work Immersion refers to the part of Senior High School Curriculum of the Department
of Education (DepEd) consisting eighty hours of work experience or work simulation
which the Grade 12 students will undergo to expose them to the actual workplace
setting. The Work Immersion is not an actual agreement to work but rather a process in
which the demonstrate the process of working and improve the knowledge shared by
schools. Also this is where the imitation of the real work takes shape (Philjob.net, 2016)
Work Immersion is not just a requirement for graduation but it will allow students to gain
relevant and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and
workers, appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught
in school, enhance their technical knowledge and skills, enrich their skills in
communications and the human relations and develop their good work habits, attitudes,
appreciation and respect for work.
OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK IMMERSION
The K to 12 Basic Education programs’ purpose is to discover, improve and develop the
learners Learning Competencies and to guide the learners to pursue their chosen
career and to develop a better nation. It gives opportunities to the learners:
 To develop a better communication.
 To adapt a new environment.
 To improve, develop, and apply their competencies.
 To prepare them for employment
Learners are distributed in an different establishment, office and laboratories as their
work place for their immersion/actual job. Through company’s partnership, they are
expected to help the learners in their work immersion, to give them the opportunities, to
have experience perform actual job, for new learning’s. To make the learners.
 Improve their knowledge and skills to be more productive.
 To develop a good communication and good relationship towards others.
 To build up work ethics, attitudes, and have the value of works.
During the work immersion in Senior High School, the learners develop a good social
interaction, that will help them to build-up and maintain a good relationship towards
others, work immersion gives them a chance to apply what they have learned about
their specialization for their improvement and development of their skill and to increase
their knowledge and for the preparation of employment, for proceeding in the higher
education. The objectives written above was guided by policy to
 Create an adaptable work immersion.
 Give optional work immersion.
 Provide/give a safe and comfortable work place.
1
Values and Attributes of a Student in a Work Place
Student-trainees should be characterized by the following values and attribute in their
respective work place.
Dependable
Superiors are eyeing for someone whom they can rely on, a person to whom they can
delegate responsibilities, thus making sure that the operations in the office are carried
out properly even in their absence. In fact, in a survey conducted, it was revealed that
dependability is the best qualification that employers, are looking for an in employee.
Good Communicators

Employers will look for someone who can express themselves clearly both in written
and oral communication. Proper communication skills will lessen common company
problem in the workplace like miscommunication and misunderstanding among
employees or between a superior and its subordinate.
Hardworking
Hardworking employees are partners of an organization in reaching its goals. They are
the ’’army’’ that keeps the company moving forward an employee.

including floor plan and rear elevation.
After the discussion of Engr. Azaleah, their companion discussed the environmental unit
and compliance that contains the need to consider the environment when implementing
a project site. He said that before the projects start they will submit a CnG certificate to
the DENR if the project will be done in forest zone. He further explained that every
affected trees during a construction project needs to be changed. For the planted trees,
its equivalent to 50 seedlings and for natural ones is equivalent to 100 seedlings. He
also mentioned the Road Right of way which is under the Republic Act 10752
containing the penalties of not following the appropriate road right of way and the things
they should do to negotiate to the owner of the affected lot during construction of a
project.
Engr. Azaleah showed us the actual road designing using her desktop and after that
she asked us who wanted to try the actual designing that’s why some of my classmates
tried the actual designing process. After that we went to the other desktop to try also the
actual designing process of a building but we are all having fun and can’t keep
ourselves from laughing because she said that she doesn’t know how to explain it well
for us to understand it fully.

Laboratory technician wherein he describe it as the
backbone of the Laboratory, He also discussed the
reason why it is important to test the materials that will
be used by the contractor in the Project Site. Engr.
Bryan discussed about the minimum testing
requirements, quality control, and the definition and
function of Quality Assurance. While we are having our
snacks which is given by the chief of Quality Assurance
Engr. 3 Jose Bumidang Jr., Engr. Bryan continued
discussing the components of concretes they are using
for the test that contains 41% of gravel, 26% of final
aggregates, 16% of water, 11% of cement, and 6%
air/wind to create a cylinder, rectangle and other
structures of concretes.
After the discussion, they prepared the projector and
played a video regarding sieve analysis for soils and the
steps of determination of moisture content. After that we
went outside the building wherein Engr. Bryan and Sir
Alfie Karl showed us the process of making concrete
cylinder using the cylinder mold and tamping rod and
instructed us to observe the process of making the
different kind of walls like retaining wall, double crib wall,
stone masonry and many more using the mix
components of fine aggregates, cement and water mixed
in the mixer.

After having our lunch, we came back in the Engineering Office to continue watching the
videos of how they conduct the material testing in the laboratory. They both
accompanied us in watching the video lecture because they mentioned that they have
nothing to discuss anymore because their section is more on application in the
laboratory. They let us watch about the sieve analysis for coarse aggregates and the
apparatus to be used, liquid limit, determination of plastic liquid limit of soil,
determination of California Bearing Ratio (CBR), fine and coarse aggregates, sieve
analysis for soil, cement and other materials that are needed to be tested.

Technician Eric Jim Aliguyon showed us how to test the cement
that will be used in the construction using the breaker to test
how hard the cement is. They repeatedly break the different
shaped concretes made by the laborers in the site to be able for
them to fully demonstrate how many trials they need to do to be
able to complete each test. While they are testing one of the
laboratory technician throws a joke us “ Sana cement nalang
ang nabebreak “, hindi lang pala cement ang nabebreak pati
relasyon nyo” and many others jokes of him related to the
cement testing and relationship.

the activity, Sir Alfie gave us advice about life and how to be successful and later on we
having having a chit chat about our experience that day and his companion continued
giving jokes to us while we are waiting for the Drivers to finished washing the cars in
order for us to go back to Talite. Before we left the laboratory we asked our instructor for
the day to take pictures with us but unfortunately only sir Alfie Karl joined the picture
taking. At the end of day, I learned that being an Engineer and Laboratory Technician in
the Quality Assurance was never easy as it requires another examination before you
will be accredited Quality Assurance Engineer. Material testing is never easy as it take
hours, days and months before finishing a test and they even repeat the test many
times in order for them to ensure the quality of the materials. Even though it is not easy
to be engineer but I’m happy that were given a chance experience their work even just
for a day.
JUNE 3,2023
DAY 5: # A SECOND DAY EXPERIENCE WITH THE PLANNING AND DESIGN
SECTION
For this day Engr. Genesis Pucya, discussed

Erwin Lamagon, Engr. Marvin and Sir Mark gave us a chance
to use the survey instruments. The first instrument we use
was the Real Time Kinematics (RTK) also known as the
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). We need to
calibrate the instrument by adjusting it in order for the bubble
to be at the center circle and next is the total station that look
like a telescope and has the same process with the GNSS on
how to manipulate it. The next instrument is the drone where
in Sir Mark an IT expert demonstrate how to use it. Two of our
classmates tried to make it fly with the assistance of Sir Mark.
At the end of the day, Sir Mark asked us to take a picture with
him using the drone before dismissing us.

regret to make painful decisions, be happy, and don’t deprive the happiness of others.
She also gave us an advice that if you want to walk fast walk alone, if you want to walk
further walk together if you want to reach your destination walk with the right people.
Lastly, Engr. Eddie also gave an advice related to our life as a student which is ask
what you need not what you want.
I may not be around during their discussion in the afternoon because I went to take my
entrance exam but I would say that I have learned a lot of things from their discussion
that motivates and encourage us to be one of them someday.
JUNE 8, 2023
DAY 8: # ENJOYING THE MOMENT WHILE ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE AND NEW
EXPERIENCE WITH THE CONSTRUCTION SECTION

This is the day wherein we were assigned at the

Construction Section headed by Engineer Manuel
T. Oman who welcomed us with a smile and made
us feel that we belong in their section during our
first day with them. That day he had also visitors
that he will accompany to their project site
somewhere that’s why he handed the discussion to
Engineer Prescilla G. Pinkihan and Gringgo O. Go-
on. After Engineer Oman left, Engr. Prescilla
started discussing about the 3 units of the section
which includes the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Contract Management Unit and
Contract Lame Unit. Through her discussion I have learned about that the Contract
Management Unit is in charge of filing notice to proceed in order for a project to be
implemented and is also responsible for project implementation. As for the monitoring
and evaluation Unit, it is responsible for preparing reports about the accomplishments of
projects while the Contract lames unit is responsible for the preparation of documents,
billing documents of projects which includes the advanced payment, first partial billing,
interring progress billing, and final billing.
I have also learned that in every project of the Construction Section there are 5 different
kinds of engineer handling the projects which are the Project Engineer, Construction
Engineer, Project Inspector/Facilitator, Resident Engineer and Material Engineer. Engr.
Prescilla and Gringgo mentioned that Quality Assurance and Construction section
always work together. Engineer Gringgo discussed about the Revise Contract Duration
and the penalties of the contractor when the project that he/she is handling exceeds to
the given calendar days. After their discussion, they gave us a break to have our snacks
that they have prepared. After having our snacks Engr. Bong from the Procurement
Unit came inside the construction office and Sir Xyryxs asked him if we can be with him
in monitoring the ongoing single crib wall project on the road just outside the
Engineering Office. When Sir Bong agreed we went outside and Sir Xyrixs showed us
the ongoing structure of the single and double crib wall project. It is very hot outside
that’s why Sir Bong instructed us to back to the office to continue our discussion.
We had our lunch in the Construction section
pantry because they have prepared us something
to eat. After having our lunch, Engr. Prescilla and
Sir Xyrxs discussed the reasons behind the Time
extension of a project and the duties and
responsibilities of a Project Engineer and Project
Inspector through a Powerpoint Presentation. After
that Sir Xyrixs gave us four different books about
the national roads, bridges, Gymnasium and flood
control consisting the project proposal, plan and
design, and the construction of the project and
instructed us to scan and review the books to get ideas on how the process of
constructing structures takes place. While scanning the books, our adviser Madam
Liwliwa and Sir Pj Toledo came inside the conference room to visit us and in a few
minutes the bell rings indicating the earthquake drill wherein we are instructed to
participate as we do the duck, cover and hold. After the second bell rings we all went
outside the building holding books as a protection of our heads for any possible falling
objects. We the immersionist can’t help ourselves from laughing because the staff and
engineers looked like they are panicking because some sections and units did not stay
as a group and the other are near the ongoing building on the upper part of the place
and we heard them sharing their experience during an earthquake wherein their phones
are the number one things they hold before going outside the building. After the
Earthquake drill we went back inside the conference room to continue scanning the
books given to us. After that Sir Xyryxs ask question based on the book that he had
given to us, we answered some of his questions but some were not answered because
we did not fully understand the structures of the plan in the book.
We went to the ongoing DPWH
Employee’s Quarter building to observe
how it was constructed, the part of the
building in order for us to ask question if
we saw something that we don’t know.
Sir Xyrxs showed us first the plan of the
building and instructed us to find in the
plan the rooms that he point in the
Structure Plan. While we are inside one
of the rooms observing, Engr. Jeckelton
came to assist us also in touring around
the Building. While we are observing the
building, we also asked questions when
we see something that catch our
attention and make us curios about it. After that we went back to the office before they
dismissed us.
JUNE 9, 2023
DAY 9: # ENGINEER FOR A DAY
As for this day, Engineer Gringgo and Sir Xyryxs
accompanied us wherein Engr. Gringgo made a recap
about our lesson in our first day with them particularly
on the Contract Lames Unit wherein he discussed the
Partial billing, Second Progress billing and final billing
by giving examples and elaborating the contents of
these three billing. He also discussed the role or
function of variation order where it is responsible for
the revision of the program of work, attachment of as
it state plan and many more.
They made us feel like an Engineer as engr. Gringgo
let us wear vest and hard hat which is being used by
the engineers when they are inspecting a project.
Engr. Jeckleton mentioned that we will go on field in
the Ongoing Project in Damag this day but we have
no rides and there is no instruction given by Engr.
Manuel T. Oman, the chief of Construction that’s why
we just went at the back of the DPWH Office to
observe the ongoing retaining wall with the printed
plan given to us so that we can see if the plan was
followed in constructing the ongoing retaining wall.
Since they prepared our lunch again we
had no choice but to eat lunch with the
construction Section. After having our
lunch, we stayed at the conference room
waiting for the instructions of our
lecturers but because they are busy, we
decided to practice our presentation that
would be presented during our closing
program. We spent our time discussing
the things we learned in the past few
weeks in the conference room until 3 pm
when Sir Xyryxs came to dismissed us
but before that he expressed his gratitude
for our patience in waiting to them and also for cooperating and obeying them. After
that, we asked them to take pictures with us and after the picture taking someone from
the construction section asked our classmate Marivic Chumayyo to render them a song.
After that went home to our boarding houses.
JUNE 13, 2023
DAY 10: # OUR LAST DAY AS A WORK IMMERSIONIST

This 13th day of June 2023 marks our last day as a work immersionist and our last day
of learning experience as an Engineer. On this day we were assigned to the
Procurement Unit where in Engr. Jema Luglug discussed the vital role of the
Procurement which is under the Republic Act 9184 which serves as their guidelines in
that Unit. She also discussed about the Procurement of Goods, Expendable and
Nonexpendable Goods, Types of Goods, Civil Works Applications and lastly the
Procurement and Management. She invited us their office and showed us the
compilation of papers containing the bidding of the projects, examples of expendables
and non-expendable goods.
I have a lot things being with her as she willingly shares her knowledge to us and gave
us advice that we can apply throughout our lives. After our 3 hour of discussion with
Engr. Jema, one of the staff of the Engineering Office came saying that our snack which
came from the LGU is ready. Were supposed to have an orientation from the LGU for
our Five Day Observation in Galonogon but unfortunately, they can’t come that’s why
they just delivered our snacks and attendance sheet through their staff. After having our
snacks, we stayed in the conference room to rest while having a chit chat my
classmates as we patiently wait for instructions from Engr. Jema. After minutes of
waiting, Engr. Jema came saying that we better go home to relax ourselves because
she had nothing to discuss anymore and instructed us to come back tomorrow for the
closing program.
WEEKLY NARRATIVE REPORT
WEEK 1
For the first week of our immersion, we went to Talite to clean our boarding houses and
prepare our things and ourselves so that we will not be late because the next day will be
our first day as an immersionist. The next day we were informed that our first day of
immersion will be postponed due to the wind signal number 1 typhoon, so me and my 4
classmates asked our adviser if we can go to Hinalong to visit my Grandmother and to
stroll also. She agreed because we informed her that the weather condition is good so
went to Hinalong and enjoy ourselves walking the uphill step for one hour.
The next day which is the second day of the week, we went to the DPWH Engineering
Office for our first day of immersion, we first undergone undergo an orientation including
the introduction of the District Engineer, Assistant District Engineer, Chief of the four
section and the units under DPWH. After that they presented a video about the
accomplishment of DPWH in Mountain Province as well as giving an overview about the
function of the different section.
On the third day of the week which is our second day as immersionist, we were
assigned to the Planning and Design section wherein they have shared their knowledge
and experience working as an Engineer in the planning and Design section and
discussed what the section is all about. They also discussed the project cycle, the
function of the section, how they plan and design a building and road structures and
they also introduced the apps which they are using to design structures and also
introduced the survey instrument they were using to gather data.
On the fourth day of the week which is our third day as immersionist, we were assigned
to the Quality Assurance Section wherein they lectured us about how the section work,
the things they used to test materials and what do they test, and all the things related to
the section.
On the fifth day of the week which is our fourth day as immersionist, we went to the
DPWH Laboratory located in Potia, where the Quality Assurance do the material testing.
There, we were amazed as we were given a chance to witnessed the actual work they
are performing in the laboratory.
This week, I have learned a lot of things that I have never expected to learn and had
help me to decide of my career path. While learning within these week, I learned to
enjoy and experience wonderful things with my classmates as live in one roof which is
our boarding house. I have learned the meaning of companionship, adherence and
friendship.
WEEK 2
This is our second week in the same department. During our first day of the week we
were assigned to the Planning and Design Section again to continue what we have not
accomplish during our first day with them. This day we went to the rooftop wherein they
discussed first the survey instrument before setting it up and gave us a chance to try
using the total station, GNSS and Drone instrument. At the end of the day with them we
take pictures with them before going home.
On the second and third day we were assigned to the Maintenance Section wherein
they showed example s of road defects that needs maintenance. They discussed about
their responsibility as a maintenance section engineer, the obstructions, the process
flow and the two kinds of equipment they are using. Since they are busy with paper
work especially their chief Madam Eliamor who has visitors that she need to entertain,
Engr. Willie Mar accompanied when we went outside the Office for him to show us the
examples of road defects. After teaching us they provided our snacks for the past two
day being with them and they never failed in sharing knowledge about their field even
though they are busy.
On our fourth and fifth day, we were assigned to most generous section the
Construction Section as they always prepare our snacks and lunch during the two days
we spent with them. Here, we felt lbeing a real engineer working in the department as
they accompanied as we explore the ongoing employee’s Quarter building and retaining
wall just outside the DWH Office wherein they made us wear hard hat and vest with the
printed plan. In the guidance of Engr. Gringgo we went to the ongoing project and
instructed us to see mistakes on the project basing on the plan we are holding and were
grateful because we identify the mistakes basing on the printed plan. Some of our
responses to his question were not correct because some of the design in the plan were
difficult to be understood but we were happy because we tried.
This week experience is the best because I have gained knowledge and understanding
that I can apply when I enter college life. This week I have learned to enjoy every
moment and learn to go with flow. I would say I have learned many things from them
that I would be grateful of from the lesson they have instilled in our minds, the advices
and motivation they shared, the experience/activities we spent together that will remain
as beautiful memories in our hearts and mind
WEEK 3
This week marks our last week spending time learning with the DPWH Faculty and
staffs. We started ours first day in Tuesday because Monday marks the Independence
day Holiday. For this day we were assigned to the Procurement unit wherein Engr.
Jema Luglug discussed about the Procurement which is under the Republic Act 9184
and she mentioned the things that should be done in procuring projects, and showed us
the examples of bidding. She gave us an advice to study well and achieved our dreams
before she dismissed us.
On our second day, June 14 marks our closing program wherein we rendered a thank
You song and our deepest gratitude for all the faculty and staff of the DPWH Ifugao
Second District Engineering Office for allowing us to experience the field work of an
Engineer. We received our certificate implying that we officially completed the 80 hours
work immersion and have pictures with the District Engineer, Assistant District
Engineer, the Chief of the four sections and with the admin unit. After that, we had our
snacks before giving our tokens as a sign of gratitude before we went home to our
respective houses to prepare going back to school the next day.
WORK IMMERSION HIGHLIGHTS
My work immersion highlights are, we have tried to manipulate or used the survey
instruments which are the total station and RNSS which is used to survey data that will
be used for planning and designing structures. We were given a chance to see the
actual work in the laboratory as well as they had given us a chance to try getting the
moisture content of soil.
REFLECTION
Throughout my work immersion at DPWH IFUGAO SECOND DISTRICT Engineering
Office, I was lucky and fortunate enough to have experienced firsthand, observed, and
learned many diverse sides of what goes in a project, particularly government projects
like road widening improvement of multipurpose hall, development of drainage, and all
sorts of projects that are funded by the government. I was able to grasp the general
process of how a project is primarily planned, develop, and completed; including how
much work and detail goes inti every stage of planning and developing. Moreover, I
have learned the many various types of work an Engineer has to execute and carry out,
which in turn, have equipped me with more insight into the different types of roles and
responsibilities that I could perform, as a future Civil Engineer.
I found that the workplace itself was relatively diverse. There are surveyors, projects
supervisors/managers, electrical engineers, geodetic engineers, sanitary engineers and
civil engineers all working in the one office. This broad variety of people have different
strengths, weaknesses and qualification and they work together and organize their work
in sync with one another so that the work flows smoothly and they are able to complete
their work proficiently in order to present it to Central Office on time. This in return
