Eco-Friendly Crayon Research Methodology

This study employs a quantitative methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of ECO-KULAY crayons made from fruit peels compared to commercial brands like Crayola, focusing on factors such as texture, vibrancy, and odor. Participants from 'The Heartmony Society' at Biñan Integrated National High School were surveyed using a structured questionnaire, and ethical considerations were strictly adhered to throughout the research process. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics and comparative analysis to assess the performance of the alternative crayons and identify areas for improvement.

Chapter 2 - B
METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This study will use a quantitative method to determine if fruit peels can be
employed to produce non-toxic crayons. Quantitative methods concentrate on
measurements, statistical, and numerical analysis of data received from surveys, polls,
and other forms of data collection, as well as the manipulation of statistical data
obtained by computational techniques (E.R. Babbie, 2010). This design is appropriate
for the study due to its objective of comparing the performance (texture, vibrancy,
color, odor, and comfort) of the ECO-KULAY alternative crayon with commercial
crayons (e.g., Crayola). Additionally, it allows the researcher to test hypotheses
regarding the impact of using rice bran wax and fruit peels as primary materials.

Sampling and Participants of the Study

The participants were selected members of “The Heartmony Society” from
Biñan Integrated National High School (BINHS). This art-based club was chosen for
their experience and familiarity with art, making them capable of effectively and
accurately evaluating the alternative crayon. A total of five (5) members were involved
in the survey and testing, and purposive sampling was used— which enables the
researcher to select respondents with the exact expertise required for the evaluation,
particularly their experience with art and crayon usage.

Instrument
The researcher used a structured survey to gather feedback on various aspects
of the crayon, such as texture, vibrancy, color, odor, and comfort. This survey used a
Likert scale ranging from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree), and instrument
was tested and reviewed for clarity and relevance before putting it into use, ensuring
it effectively captured the participants' feedback.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher/s began the data gathering by preparing a survey questionnaire
in order to evaluate the effectiveness of ECO-KULAY crayons, focusing on texture,
color vibrancy, and odor. The questionnaire was reviewed for clarity, relevance,
potential biases and revised accordingly, with a Likert scale included to facilitate
quantifiable responses. Ethical considerations were included into the process, such as
an introductory section explaining the study’s purpose and how the data would be
used to fully inform participants.

Then— an approval letter was made and sent to the Heartmony Society Club
Adviser and the Research Adviser. This letter elaborates the study's objectives,
methods, and ethical considerations such as emphasizing voluntary participation and
adherence to ethical standards like confidentiality and informed consent. Upon
securing the necessary approvals, the researcher started the execution of the survey
by distributing the survey questionnaires to selected members of “The Heartmony
Society”.

The surveys were administered in a controlled environment, providing

participants ample time and a conducive setting to complete their responses. Consent
forms were also provided, highlighting each participant’s right to withdraw at any time
without repercussions. Participants engaged in product testing by using ECO-KULAY
crayons and a commercial brand (Crayola) to create sketches on clean paper, allowing
for a direct and precise comparison.

The testing setup was consistent, with non-toxic and age-appropriate materials
ensuring safety and comfort. Finally, feedback was collected immediately after testing
to capture fresh impressions. Responses were anonymized for analysis, and the
researcher committed to presenting their findings transparently and without bias.

Analysis of Data
The data analysis was carried out using a methodical and organized approach,
applying descriptive statistical techniques to assess the feedback from participants.
Initially, the gathered survey responses were arranged clearly and consistently. The
answers of each participant were matched with their respective survey questions to
guarantee precision and ease in the following analysis stages. This arrangement was
essential for ensuring the study's reliability and for detecting patterns within the data.

Descriptive statistics served as the main method for analysis. A frequency

distribution was established for each survey question to identify how many
respondents chose particular ratings on the Likert scale, which ranged from 1 (Strongly
Disagree) to 5 (Strongly Agree). To enhance understanding, percentages were
calculated to showcase the proportion of respondents who agreed or disagreed with
each statement. Additionally, the mean score for each question was computed to
summarize the general trend of responses, providing a clear indication of participant
perceptions for each assessed attribute.

Alongside descriptive statistics, a comparative analysis was conducted to

assess ECO-KULAY crayons in relation to commercial crayons. This evaluation
centered on particular features, including color vibrancy, texture, and usability, which
served as important measures of product performance. By analyzing the ratings of
each product in parallel, the researcher sought to pinpoint not only the advantages of
the ECO-KULAY crayons but also aspects that might need enhancement.

Recognizing trends and patterns within the data was an essential part of the
analysis process. The researcher meticulously analyzed the frequency distributions to
identify consistent responses and variations that could reveal particular challenges or
areas for improvement. Items that received consistently high ratings suggested the
product's strengths, whereas varied ratings indicated elements that could use some
modifications.

The data interpretation was conducted within a framework consistent with the
aims of the study. This method enabled the researcher to evaluate how well the ECO-
KULAY crayons satisfied established criteria including safety, usability, and overall
effectiveness. During the analysis, ethical principles were strictly upheld. Participants'
identities were protected by employing coded identifiers, and every data entry and
calculation was verified twice to guarantee accuracy and reliability.

Ethical Consideration
To protect participants' rights and the integrity of the research process, the
researcher strictly adhered to ethical norms when conducting the study. Prior to
starting the study, the researcher consulted and obtained approval from the
appropriate authorities, including as the research adviser and the Heartmony Society
adviser at Biñan Integrated National High School. Formal approval was received to
move forward with data collecting when a letter outlining the study's goals and
methods was submitted.

All participants received a written consent form before the survey was
administered. The permission form stated the goal of the study, the procedures
involved, and the participants' rights, which included the ability to withdraw from the
study at any time without penalty. Participants were informed that their replies would
remain anonymous and confidential, and that no identifying information would be
associated with their feedback.

The researcher proved that the participants were not subjected to any form of
damage, pain, or undue pressure while gathering data. The products used, such as
the ECO-KULAY crayons, have been certified as non-toxic and safe to use. The
participants were given a comfortable setting in which to test the crayons and complete
the survey at their own pace.
