Department of Journalism and Mass Communication under the School of Humanities and
Social Sciences at Central University of Haryana is a Pioneer and Progressive Media Department
among the Central and State Universities of the country.
Established in 2014, the Department is imparting in-depth media education and training
to students and media professionals. The department is offering a two-year M.A. in Journalism
and Mass Communication Program with compulsory internship opportunities for the students.
In 2022, the Department started the Ph.D. program for aspiring researchers and presently
eleven research scholars are working on various contemporary issues of media research like
Health Communication, Film Studies, Climate Change, Fake news and Misinformation, Media
Literacy, etc.
The department has a full-fledged Audio-Visual studio, Digital media lab, Radio studio,
Design and editing software embedded Print Media lab, Digital Media Lab, Smart Classrooms,
Centralized Library, and e-learning resource. Regular interactions with media professionals,
industry visits, and curricular and extension outreach activities are the key features of
theDepartment. There are various in-house media training and production facilities to give media
industry exposure to the students.
DJMC has a strong alumni base representing different states and cultures. Currently
working in various newsrooms, corporate houses, PR, and Advertising agencies on various
capacities.
Diversity of the students is the key strength of the department, which provides a
collaborative learning environment for the students. DJMC is a school to learn and earn
journalism practices and skills through global lenses.
The department also has further plans to expand the department and start some new
courses in the coming years. The objective of the department is to produce the best human
resource for the media industry which can serve a global audience through its social
commitment. DJMC is a Pioneer, Progressive, New Age School of Journalism and Mass
Communication within a great university.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication regularly organizes events and
activities to support student development. The department is planning to host its second
Intra and Inter-University Media Festival. This festival will provide a platform for students
to gain national exposure and showcase their media skills.

Planned in a concise and comprehensive manner, the festival offers opportunities for
students to demonstrate creativity while enjoying cultural exchange and entertainment.
The event, set against the backdrop of spring’s natural beauty, promises a delightful and
enlightening experience.

Opening Ceremony: 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM
Valedictory Ceremony & Cultural Evening: 5:00 PM onwards

Feature Writing
Rules & Regulations: Timing: 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM
1.​ Word limit: 500 to 800 words Venue: Print Media Lab
2.​ The copy should be handwritten. Teacher Coordinator: Dr. Bharti Batra
3.​ Topic will be given on the spot. Student Coordinator: Mr. Shemeem & Miss
4.​ A4 sheets will be provided. Hiba
5.​ Language: Hindi or English
6.​ Time: 30 Minutes.

Press Release Writing


Rules & Regulations: Timing: 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM
1.​ Topic will be given on spot. Venue: Classroom (Room no. 26)
2.​ Language: Hindi or English Teacher Coordinator: Dr. Surender
3.​ Hand written Student Coordinator: Miss Sneha & Miss
4.​ A4 sheets will be provided Alberteena
5.​ Time: 30 Minutes.

Piece to Camera
Rules & Regulations: Timing: 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM
1.​ Time duration: 30 seconds to 90 Venue: Academic Block- 4
seconds. Teacher Coordinator: Dr. Alekha S. Nayak
2.​ Each team will have two participants; Student Coordinator: Mr. Harish and Mr.
one as camera person and other as Rahul
Reporter/presenter.
3.​ Recording device: Smartphone
4.​ Submit PTC during given time to the
student coordinator of the event on
WhatsApp/Google Drive.
5.​ Topics will be given on spot
6.​ Language: Hindi or English.

Mobile Photography
Rules & Regulations: Timing: 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM
1.​ Theme: Campus and Campus Life Theme: Campus
2.​ Each participant shall submit three Teacher Coordinator: Dr. Alekha S. Nayak
best photos with caption. Student Coordinator: Mr. Gaurav and Miss
3.​ Device: Smartphone Aanchal
4.​ No editing in photo.
5.​ Content should not be objectionable.

Short Film
Rules & Regulations:
1.​ Film duration: 3 to 5 minutes Timing: 2:00 PM
2.​ Theme: Social awareness or any Venue: Print Media Lab
relevant subject to the society. Teacher Coordinator: Dr. Pankaj Kumar
3.​ Device: Smartphone/Camera. Student Coordinator: Mr. Sourav and Miss
4.​ Film should be submitted upto 15th Meenakshi
February, 2025 to the Teacher
Coordinator through google drive.
5.​ Few selected films will be screened.
6.​ Best film will be screened during the
prize distribution function.
7.​ Content should not be objectionable.

Reel Making
Rules & Regulations:
1.​ Theme: Social Welfare & Timing: 3:00 PM
Development. Venue: Print Media Lab
2.​ Duration: 20 seconds to 60 Teacher Coordinator: Dr. Bharti Batra
seconds Student Coordinator: Miss Mufeetha and Miss
3.​ Shall submit upto 15th Preeti
February, 2025 through email
at

4.​ Best reels will be screened in
the media festival.

Ad-MAD Show
Rules & Regulations:
1.​ Theme: Will be provided in the Timing: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
inaugural session of the Media fest. Venue: Seminar Hall (Room no. 31)
2.​ Each Team will have to perform Teacher Coordinator: Dr. Surender

3.​ Duration of performance: 2 to 3 Mamta
minutes.
4.​ Participation will be in a team. Each
team shall consist of 3 to 7 members.
5.​ Content should not be objectionable.

Poetry recitation

1.​ Theme: Any Timing: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
2.​ Duration: 60 seconds to 180 seconds Venue: DJMC Open Stage

Debate
Rules & Regulations: Timing: 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM
