What is Photoshop?

 Photoshop : is an application for creating image and editing photo developed


by Adobe.

the software provides many images editing features for


pixel based image.raster graphics and vector graphics.

 Pixel: - a pixel is the smallest item of information in an image.

Title bar – menus – the options bar

• The title bar :- It displays the title of the software, name of the
current document or file.

• Menus :- (File, Edit, Image, Layer, Select, Filter, View, Window, and Help)
appears right below the title bar.

• The options bar :- Options appear for the tool that is currently
selected in the toolbox.

 Palettes:- Palettes are usually organized into groups. In the


above example, Layers, Channels, and Paths are a group.
❖ You can easily move a palette group by dragging its blue bar
(at the top of the group).
❖ To hide a palette group, click its close box
(the "X" on the right side of the blue bar).
❖ To display palettes, go to the Window
menu and choose a palette name.
 To reset palette locations to the, choose
Window>Workspace>default Workspace .

 Rulers :- To display or hide rulers, choose Ctrl-R or View> Rulers. Rulers show
the size of your image.

 The status bar :- at the bottom of the Photoshop desktop provides


information about your current view, file and currently selected tool .

 The Toolbox : - contains tools for working with images in Photoshop.


Only one tool is selected at any given time. To select a tool ,
click on its icon in the toolbox.

Some Important Tools

Tool Name Purpose / how to use

Marquee Click and drag to select part of the image

Move Click and drag to move a selected area or an entire layer.

Click and drag to specify area to crop. Press Enter key


Crop
to crop or Escape key to cancel.

Click the image with the type tool where you want to add

Zoom Click or drag to zoom in (to zoom out, press the Alt key)

Tips for using photoshop :-
 Displaying and hiding palettes and the toolbox
• Press Tab to hide palettes and toolbox.
• Press Shift-Tab to hide palettes.

 Correcting mistakes
• Choose Edit-Step Backward to undo your last action.
• Use ( CTRL + Z ) to undo your last action.
• To undo multiple steps ,Choose Window-Show History to view the History
palette. Then you can click on a previous history state to undo one or
more of your actions.
• Choose File-Revert to return to last saved version of file.
 To access online help :- from within Photoshop CS, press the F1 key or
choose Help > Photoshop Help.

Working with Layers


 Layers is one of Photoshop’s most powerful and most popular features.
 Layers are similar transparent paper.
 Each Layer in a Photoshop document can contain image text and data.
 Each Layer contains a Layer Name and Visibility Toggle.
 By default, Photoshop names each new Layer “Layer #” where #
represents a number.

To create a new Layer {Click} the Create New Layer button at the

bottom of the Layers Palette.

 Managing Layers

To change the stacking order of Layers simply {Click} and

drag the Layer above or below other Layers.

 Duplicating Layers

To copy a Layer use the Right click on the layer and choose duplicating layer.

 Layer Styles

Layer Styles are pre-defined special effects applied to the

image data contained in the Layer.t

Tools :
 The Clone Stamp tool paints with a sample of an image.
 The Eraser tool erases pixels and restores parts of an image.
 The Blur tool blurs hard edges in an image.
 The Smudge tool smudges data in an image.
 The Burn tool darkens areas in an image.
 The Brush tool paints brush strokes.
 The Pencil tool paints hard edged strokes.
 The Color Replacement tool replaces a selected color with a
new color.

Selection Tools
 In Adobe Photoshop, you can make selections
based on size, shape, and color using tools such as the
marquee, lasso, wand, and pen tools.

 Marquee tool
Marquee tool is the basic selection tool that can select your
Photoshop layer in several shapes.

 Feather: This option is used to make the edges of your selection sharper.

Below is the list of Marquee Tools in Photoshop:

1. Rectangular Marquee Tool (selected by default)

2. Square Marquee Tool

3. Elliptical Marquee Tool

4. Circular Marquee Tool

5. Single Row Marquee Tool

OPEN IMAGES, AND CREATE NEW IMAGES

 To open and create images


1. In the menu bar, choose File > Open to open existing images.

2. In the menu bar, choose File > New to create a new image.
You can customize by typing width and height.

TO ZOOM IN AND OUT AND PAN AROUND


 The Zoom tool is located in the Tools panel.
Change from Zoom In to Out in the options bar.
 The Hand tool, also located in the Tools panel,
allows you to pan around a large or zoomed-in.

SAVE YOUR WORK


 Choose File > Save or File > Save As.

 Saving in Photoshop format (.psd) will retain layers, type, and


other editable Photoshop properties. It’s best to save your image in
PSD format while you’re still working on it.

 Saving in JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png) format will save as a standard image file
that can be shared, opened by other programs, and posted online.
When you’re finished editing, save a copy in one of these formats too.

LayerStyle :

 In menu bar click on layer ➔ layer style

1. Opacity - Change the opacity of the layer.


2. Stroke - Put an outline on the layer.
3. Inner Shadow - Puts a shadow inside the layer.
4. ColorOverlay - Put a color on top of the layer.
5. PatternOverlay - Put a pattern on top of the layer.
6. OuterGlow - Put a glow outside the layer.
7. DropShadow - Put a shadow underneath the layer.

CTRL + 0 To fit in the window

CTRL + D To deselect all

CTRL + Z To undo/redo (single step)

CTRL + SHIFT+ Z To step forward (redo multiple steps)

CTRL + ALT + Z To step backward (undo multiple steps)

Shift + alt + U To activate Hue

Ctrl + E Merges selected layers

1. Digitize your old photo.
