General Instructions:
i. This question paper consists of 7 pages, 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A student is
expected to attempt only one of these questions.
iii. Section A consists of 20 objective-type questions carrying 01 mark each.
iv. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these questions should be
in the range of 30 to 50 words.
v. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these questions
should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
vi. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answer to these questions
should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-parts.

particles settle? Explain.

31. A motorcyclist drives from A to B with a uniform speed of 30 km/h and returns back with a speed of 20 3
km h–1. Find its average speed.
32. The velocity of a body moving in a straight line is increased by applying a constant force ‘F’ for some 3
distance in the direction of the motion. Prove that the increase in the kinetic energy of the body is
equal to the work done by the force on the body.
33. State the universal law of gravitation. Write its mathematical form. What will happen to the gravitational 3
force between two bodies if the masses of one body is doubled?

SECTION D
34. (a) Atomic number of Na is 11. What will be the atomic number of sodium ion and why? 5
(b) The atom of an element has two electrons in its M shell. What will be the atomic number of the
element? Name the element.
(c) Two atoms have the following nuclear composition
Atom A = 17 protons , 18 neutrons
Atom B = 17 protons , 20 neutrons

are present in the ion? Name the ion and write its symbol.

36. (a) The velocity-time graph of a ball of mass 20 g moving along a straight line on a long table is given 5

(b) Why do you fall in the forward direction when a moving bus applies brakes to a stop and fall
backwards when it accelerates from rest?

(a) If a balloon filled with air and its mouth untied is released with its mouth in the downward direction, it
moves upwards. Why?
(b) A truck starts from rest and rolls down a hill with constant acceleration. It travels a distance of 400 m
in 20 s. Find its acceleration. Find the force acting on it if its mass is 7 metric tons.

37. A teacher asked a group of students to heat a given sample of ice and to draw a heating curve representing 4
temperature rise as a function of heat added. After performing experiment at one atmospheric pressure, the
students gave the following curve:

(c) Which lines represent the change of state without undergoing any change of temperature?
(d) Why is ice at 273K more effective in cooling than water at the same temperature?

38. The growth of plants occurs only in certain specific regions. This is because of the presence of dividing 4
tissue. New cells produced by the dividing tissue are initially like themselves, but as the cells grow and
mature, their characteristics slowly change and they become components of other tissues.
(a) Name this dividing tissue.
(b) List any two characteristic features of the dividing cells of this tissue.
(c) Name the type of dividing tissue which is responsible for transformation of a stem of a plant into a
trunk, as it grows into a tree.

(c) As the cells grow, they stop dividing and attain permanent structure and function. State the name of this
process.
39. Frequency is the number of times an event occurs in a given time period. Example, Rhythmic beating of 4
drums. When sound is propagated through a medium, the density of the medium oscillates between a
maximum value and a minimum value. The change in density from the maximum value to the minimum
value, then again to the maximum value, makes one complete oscillation. If we can count the number of
the compressions or rarefactions per unit time, we will get the frequency of the sound wave. It is usually
represented by ν.
(a) How are the wavelength and frequency of a sound wave related to its speed?
(b) What is the time interval between successive compressions from the source called?
(c) The frequency of a source of sound is 100 Hz. How many times does it vibrate in a minute?
OR
(c) A person fires a gun standing at a distance of 55 m from a wall. If the speed of sound is 330 ms-1, find
the time for an echo to be heard.
