This poem from Kanz al-Gharifeen (The Treasure of the Seekers) by Sheikh Ibrahim Niass is a deep
expression of love and devotion to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It contains spiritual reflections, praise,
and supplications. Below is a line-by-line explanation in English:
First Line
"The love of Layla has been erased from my heart and replaced with regret; instead, my heart is now
devoted to the noble Hashemite Imam."
• Here, "Layla" symbolizes worldly love and attachments. The poet expresses that his heart has
been purified, and instead of worldly love, he now cherishes the love of the Prophet
Muhammad ﷺ, who is described as "the noble Hashemite Imam."
Second Line
"The guide of the lovers has led me with his remembrance; slow down, have mercy on this lovestruck
devotee."
• The poet acknowledges being drawn towards the Prophet’s remembrance, as if guided by a
spiritual force. He asks for gentleness, as his love for the Prophet ﷺis overwhelming.
Third Line
"Muhammad, the praised one; Muhammad, the most praiseworthy; Muhammad, the chosen one; the
beloved, the foremost."
• This verse lists different names of the Prophet ﷺ, each highlighting a unique aspect of his noble
character.
Fourth Line
"Muhammad, who is pure, the Chosen One, the bringer of glad tidings and warnings, a fearless lion—oh,
what a lion!"
• The Prophet ﷺis described as pure, chosen by Allah, a bearer of good news and warnings, and
as brave as a lion.
Fifth Line
"The love of the Eraser (al-Mahi) and the Radiant Lamp (as-Siraj) has called me; I am but a stray lion—
oh, what a lion!"
• "Al-Mahi" (the one who erases disbelief) and "as-Siraj" (the shining lamp) are titles of the
Prophet ﷺ. The poet describes being drawn to the Prophet’s love, feeling like a wandering lion
seeking guidance.
Sixth Line
"The love of the Eraser and the Radiant Lamp has called me; though I am burdened with sins, grant me
safety and peace."
• The poet admits his sins but seeks the Prophet’s intercession for forgiveness and spiritual
security.
Seventh Line
"The Trustworthy Messenger, a guide and mercy, Abu al-Qasim, my shield and my arrows."
• The Prophet ﷺis described as trustworthy, merciful, and a guide. The poet metaphorically calls
him a shield (protection) and arrows (a source of strength in spiritual struggles).
Eighth Line
"The Chosen One journeyed by night and brought back five (prayers); we ascended with them, and the
credit belongs to the one who came first."
• This refers to the Prophet’s Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj), where he received the command for
five daily prayers. The poet expresses gratitude for this divine gift.
Ninth Line
"He advised (us) to observe them when departing; through them, the servant attains all advancement."
• The Prophet ﷺemphasized the importance of the five prayers, which elevate a believer
spiritually.
Tenth Line
"Stand and bow in humility for Him and through Him; you will see the delight of your eyes from the
Bestower of blessings."
• The poet urges devotion in prayer, as it brings joy and divine favor.
Eleventh Line
ً
"When you rise after ablution, reciting (Quran), then prostrate after the great bowing."
• He emphasizes the importance of prayer with sincerity and reverence.
Twelfth Line
"The distance has been visibly shortened for you; you have reached the Beloved, so glorify and magnify
Him."
• This could refer to the spiritual closeness attained through devotion, as if the barriers between
the seeker and Allah have been removed.
Thirteenth Line
"To my Lord, the God of the Throne, belongs reinforced gratitude for the Chosen One, my hidden secret."
• The poet expresses deep gratitude to Allah for sending the Prophet ﷺ, whom he describes as his
spiritual secret.

Taha (Prophet Muhammad)."
