1. Mutually and Non-Mutually Exclusive Events Imagine you have a deck of cards. What is the
probability of drawing either an Ace or a King from the deck? Are these events mutually exclusive or
non-mutually exclusive? Explain why.
2. Independent and Dependent Events Consider the scenario of flipping a coin and rolling a die. If
the coin lands heads, you roll a die. If the coin lands tails, you don't roll the die. What are the
independent and dependent events in this scenario? Provide a brief explanation.
3. Probability Distribution Given a fair six-sided die, construct a probability distribution table for
the number rolled. Explain the expected value and variance of this probability distribution.
4. Statistical Hypotheses and Types of Hypothesis A researcher is testing whether a new drug is
effective in reducing blood pressure. Formulate the null hypothesis (H0) and the alternative
hypothesis (H1) for this study. Describe the roles of these hypotheses in the research process.
5. Type of Errors and Level of Significance In the context of hypothesis testing, explain the
difference between Type I and Type II errors. If a test is conducted at a 5% level of significance,
what does this mean in terms of the likelihood of making a Type I error?
6. Parametric Tests: t-Test and Z-Test A researcher wants to determine whether the average
height of a sample of students differs from the national average height of students. The national
average height is known to be 160 cm with a standard deviation of 10 cm. The researcher collects a
sample of 30 students with an average height of 162 cm. Should the researcher use a t-test or a z-
test for this analysis? Conduct the appropriate test at a 5% level of significance.
7. Measures of Correlation Explain how the Pearson correlation coefficient and the Spearman
rank correlation coefficient differ. Provide an example scenario where each would be appropriately
used.
8. Correlation and Scatter Plot Diagram Given a dataset of hours studied and test scores for 10
students, create a scatter plot diagram to visualize the relationship between the two variables.
Discuss what the scatter plot indicates about the correlation between hours studied and test scores.
10. Two Way ANOVA A researcher is studying the effect of two different diets (A and B) and two
different exercise regimes (High and Low) on weight loss. They collect data from 60 participants
who are randomly assigned to one of the diet and exercise combinations. How would you use a
Two Way ANOVA to determine if there is a significant interaction between diet and exercise on
weight loss?
11. Chi-Square and Other Non-Parametric Statistics A survey is conducted to determine if there
is a preference for different types of smartphones among different age groups. The results are
summarized in a contingency table. How would you use the Chi-Square test to determine if there is
a significant association between age group and smartphone preference?
13. Spearman’s Rank Correlation Given a dataset of ranks of students in two subjects (Math and
Science), calculate the Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient to determine the strength and
direction of the relationship between the students' performance in Math and Science.
14. Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test In a clinical trial, two different medications are tested for their
effectiveness in reducing blood pressure. The blood pressure readings before and after the
treatment are recorded for two groups of patients. How would you use the Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test
to determine if there is a significant difference in the effectiveness of the two medications?
15. Kendall Coefficient of Concordance Three judges rank 10 different wines based on taste. Use
the Kendall Coefficient of Concordance to determine the level of agreement among the judges'
rankings.
16. Linear Regression and Multiple Linear Regression A company wants to predict its monthly
sales based on the amount spent on advertising. They collect data on monthly sales and advertising
expenses for the past year. How would you use linear regression to develop a model for predicting
sales? Additionally, if you also have data on other factors like the number of salespersons and
economic conditions, how would you use multiple linear regression to improve the prediction
model?
1. Chi-Square Goodness of Fit Test A die is rolled 120 times, and the results are recorded as
follows: 1 (15 times), 2 (20 times), 3 (18 times), 4 (22 times), 5 (23 times), and 6 (22 times). Use the
Chi-Square Goodness of Fit test to determine if the die is fair.
2. One-Way ANOVA A researcher is studying the effect of three different diets (Diet A, Diet B, and
Diet C) on the weight loss of participants over a period of 12 weeks. The researcher collects data on
the weight loss (in kilograms) for a sample of participants in each diet group:
Diet A: [5, 6, 7, 5, 4]
Diet B: [8, 9, 7, 6, 8]
Diet C: [10, 11, 9, 10, 12]
Using a One-Way ANOVA, determine if there is a statistically significant difference in the mean
weight loss among the three diet groups at a 5% level of significance. Show your calculations and
interpret the results.
