INTRODUCTION
The Name of Jesus Christ will never, in all of Eternity, cease to amaze, hence
this list of the Names and Titles (‘Appellations’) of Jesus Christ. It is by no means
an exhaustive list, and the reader is welcome to search the Holy Scriptures to
add to it. As amazing as the Name of Christ may be, however, let us bear in mind
and not forget that there will come a day when the Name of Jesus will change.
The Bible says:
[Revelation3:12MKJV].

1. THINGS WE CANNOT CHANGE. Let’s face it, there are things we can never
change. For instance:
2.1.1 DNA. No matter how hard we try, we will never be able to change
our DNA, that mysterious ‘double helix’ that determines who and what we
biologically are. Even were we to bribe the lab technician to switch the
specimen containers in which DNA samples are preserved, we will never
be able to change our DNA; we are stuck with it forever. Let the
transhumanists fiddle with our genes and bioengineer our DNA as much
as they like, they will never change who we are.
2.1.2 Fingerprints. We cannot change our fingerprints, no matter how
hard we would try. Yes, fingerprints may fade over time, but no effort of
technological innovation or criminal engineering will ever change who we
are. Our fingerprints are unique, whether still new, old or already faded.
2.1.3 Our True Identity. Let’s face it, all the plastic surgery in the world
will not change who we are, not even with a new, FBI facilitated ID card
and a changed address. Unless some astonishing miracle happens, we are
stuck with who we are … forever.
2. LIVING IN THE PAST. Having to live with an inglorious past can, for many,
be a daunting challenge. After all, what to do with the painful failures,
embarrassing moral and social indiscretions, or sins against others, against God
and against the holy Heavenly Courts of Absolute & Infinite Justice? What to do
with the crimes and misdemeanours of our reckless youth that still may be
haunting so many today?
It is in times like these that the psychotherapist’s admonition of, “Don’t you
think the time has come for you to forgive yourself?” sounds as empty and
hollow as a brown paper-bag with the last donut left eaten by the dog. I have
searched the Bible deep and wide but has yet to discover the scripture that
authorises us to ‘forgive ourselves’. If only we could change who we were …
change our identity to become a different person with a past as pure,
uncluttered, innocent and morally pristine as that of a new-born baby!
[John3:7MKJV].
What does it all mean? It means that trying to change who we are would be
of no avail and wasting time trying to reform ourselves would be worse than
useless; what we needed was ‘transformation’, not ‘rehabilitation’. In other
words, we must be born again. The miracle of spiritual regeneration as taught
by the Bible is that we can be born again into that innocent new person we
clamour to be. Jesus Christ says: “You must be born again!”
4. STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD. God, who cannot lie, has solemnly
promised:
“Come now, and let us reason together, says Jehovah; though
your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though
they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool.”
[Isaiah1:18MKJV].
“But as many as received Him [Jesus Christ] He gave to them
authority to become the children of God, to those who believe on
His name.”
[John1:12MKJV].
“So that if any one is in Christ, that one is a new creature; old
things have passed away; behold, all things have be-come new.”
[2Corinthians5:17MKJV].
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
[Romans6:23].
“And so it is written, ‘The first man, Adam, became a living
soul," the last Adam [Jesus Christ] was a life-giving Spirit’.”
[1Corinthians15:45MKJV].
7. GOD CAN MAKE YOUR VALLEY GREEN AGAIN. If I were asked to explain to
the reader my temperament as far as my walk in faith is concerned, I would best
describe it with the aid of an almost forgotten poem by a (late) dear friend of
the family, Nancy Bouwer, which she must have penned especially for me
during the late 1970s. Writers are a contemplative, melancholic lot of which
many probably live their lives on the edge of sheer desperation. Her poem:

In summary, I suppose this anonymous writer has probably said it best when
he/she had written: “When we stop chasing the wrong things, we give the right
things a chance to catch up with us.”
Be that as it may, maybe the reader has also arrived at a juncture in his or her
life where he or she feels despondent, or irretrievably lost and beyond
help. Perhaps his or her ‘valley’ had grown brown, parched, dry and ugly in

recent years; but we can make our valley green again, irrespective of and
notwithstanding our past (and even if we are in prison today) by simply coming
to the Christ of Calvary to repent and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour. Jesus
can not only salvage one’s soul but also one’s life. In due time He can make our
valley grow green again. Here’s the deal: God can redeem time (wasted), tears
shed and trouble incurred! The Bible teaches:
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though
your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though
they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
[Isaiah 1:18KJV].
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son [JESUS], that whosoever believeth in him [JESUS] should not
perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son [JESUS]
into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through
him might be saved.
[John 3:16-17KJV].
“All that the Father giveth me [JESUS] shall come to me;
and him that cometh to me I [JESUS] will in no wise cast out.
[John 6:37KJV].
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son
cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our
sins, he [JESUS] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
[1John 1:7-9KJV].
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[Romans 6:23KJV].

“Let love be without hypocrisy, shrinking from evil, cleaving to good; in brotherly love to
one another, loving fervently, having led one another in honor.
As to diligence, not slothful, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in
affliction, steadfastly continuing in prayer, distributing to the needs of the saints, pursuing
hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless, and do not curse.
Rejoice with rejoicing ones, and weep with weeping ones; minding the same thing toward
one another, not minding high things, but yielding to the lowly. Do not be wise within
yourselves.
Repay no one evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
If it is possible, as far as is in you, being in peace with all men, not avenging yourselves,
beloved, but giving place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the
Lord."
Therefore if your enemy hungers, feed him. If he thirsts, give him drink. For in so doing
you shall heap coals of fire on his head.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
[Romans12:1-21MKJV].

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
For by it the elders obtained a good report.
By faith we understand that the ages were framed by a word of God, so that the things
being seen not to have come into being out of the things that appear.
By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained
witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts. And by it he, being dead, yet speaks.
By faith Enoch was translated so as not to see death, and he was not found, because God
had translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that
He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
By faith Noah, having been warned by God of things not yet seen, moved with fear,
prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and became
heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out into a place which he was afterward
going to receive for an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he went.
By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob,
the heirs of the same promise with him.
For he looked for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
By faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed and was delivered of a child
when she was past age, because she judged Him who had promised to be faithful.
Because of this came into being from one, and that of one having died, even as the stars of
the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.
These all died by way of faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar
off. And they were persuaded of them and embraced them and confessed that they were
strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
For they who say such things declare plainly that they seek a fatherland.
And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from which they came out, they might
have had opportunity to have returned.
But now they stretch forth to a better fatherland, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is
not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
By faith Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. And he who had received the promises
offered up his only-begotten son, of whom it was said that in Isaac your Seed shall be called,
concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from where he even
received him, in a figure.
By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and worshiped,
leaning upon the top of his staff.
By faith, Joseph dying remembered concerning the Exodus of the sons of Israel and gave
orders concerning his bones.
By faith Moses, having been born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they
saw he was a beautiful child. And they were not afraid of the king's commandments.
Having become great, Moses by faith refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's
daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a time, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures
in Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king, for he endured as seeing Him who
is invisible.
Through faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest He who destroyed the
first-born should touch them.

By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, which the Egyptians attempting to
do were drowned.
By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been compassed seven days.
By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had
received the spies with peace.
And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and
Samson and Jephthah; also David, and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith subdued
kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched
the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became
valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the strangers.
Women received their dead raised to life again, and others were tortured, not accepting
deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings; yes, more, of bonds and
imprisonments.
They were stoned, they were sawed in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They
wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented.
The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains and dens and
caves of the earth.
And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, did not receive the promise, for
God had provided some better thing for us, that they should not be made perfect without
us.”

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I have
become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have prophecies, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge; and though
I have all faith, so as to move mountains, and do not have charity, I am nothing.
And though I give out all my goods to feed the poor, and though I deliver my body to be
burned, and have not charity, I am profited nothing.
Charity has patience, is kind; charity is not envious, is not vain, is not puffed up; does not
behave indecently, does not seek her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil.
Charity does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth, quietly covers all
things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Charity never fails. But if there are prophecies, they will be abolished; if tongues, they shall
cease; if knowledge, it will be abolished.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
But when the perfect thing comes, then that which is in part will be caused to cease.
When I was an infant, I spoke as an infant, I thought as an infant, I reasoned as an infant.
But when I became a man, I did away with the things of an infant.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I
shall fully know even as I also am fully known.
And now faith, hope, charity, these three remain; but the greatest of these is charity.”
[1Corinthians13:1-13MKJV].

For this is My covenant with them, when I have taken away their sins."
Indeed as regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes. But as regards the election,
they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.
For the free gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
For as you also then disbelieved God, but now have been shown mercy through their
disbelief, even so these also have not believed now, so that through your mercy they may also
obtain mercy.
For God has shut up all in unbelief, so that He might show mercy to all.
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable
are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!
For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor?
Or who first gave to Him, and it will be repaid to him?
For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be glory forever! Amen.”
