Introduction on Social Ethics.
The word social comes from the word society. So, what is a Society? Society is a group of
people who lives near to each other in a community. They develop a bond and a certain
level of acceptance on how they will be living together and interacting. Societal factors are
affected by the opinions of the group of people living at a certain place. Therefore, social
ethics are ethics-manners by which an individual is expected to live in a society and behave
around any other individual. Ethical conducts are very necessary because of its great
influence to this date and on the future as well. Its important to behave ethically every time
and in whatever we do from drinking water to buying a bread because it’s also what defines
us and our background and our upbringing as a family and society.

Importance of social ethics in the light of Surah Al Furqan

Surah Al Furqan is a Makki surah, and the 25th surah of the holy Quran. Furan literally
mean evidence, proof-proof that what is right and what is not. A human didn’t know what
is right and what is wrong for his body, community, family so Surah Al Furqan was revealed
to distinguish between it.
of this verse is “And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the
earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace”
[25,63]
Firstly, by the words” servants of the most merciful” we should realize it’s the highest form
of honor because of voluntary submission. So, we should try to be the best version of
ourselves.

The word” easily” here means to walk humbly. It’s showing the importance of outer
appearance. We should adopt any of the three sunnats of walking. We should never walk
on this earth like we own it, instead decently. Since now there are advance modes of
walking so it applies in driving a car, or a bike too.
The next words “the ignorant people speak to them, they reply peacefully” tells us to
always return evil with good in individual matters. Like prophet Muhammad (pbuh) ‘s
example of doing good with the woman who used to throw garbage on him. And
eventually the woman became good, this is what happens when you encounter evil with
good.

ْ ‫ﺻِﺮ‬
“And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer]

This verse advises us to not waste our nights doing not-so-important tasks instead indulge
in the ibadat of Allah for it brings homelessness in the personality.

‫َوٱﻟﱠِﺬﯾَﻦ إِذَآ أ َﻧﻔَﻘُﻮ۟ا ﻟَْﻢ ﯾُْﺴِﺮﻓُﻮ۟ا َوﻟَْﻢ ﯾَْﻘﺘ ُُﺮو۟ا َوَﻛﺎَن ﺑَْﯿَﻦ‬, verse 67 means “ And [they are] those who, when
they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate.
According to the upper verse, consider your earnings as trust. We surely can’t control
income, but can control the outcome. Invest in good cause. Help bring the society up. Try
to help the poor. By” when they spend” we can apply time and potential with wealth as
well. Give your time to benefit others. For instance, teach if you have enough knowledge
so others can benefit from one’s knowledge as well.

th
this is the 68 verse which teaches us that the sin of homicide(murder) is great. Do not kill
someone this also implies in abortion. Nor indulge to any forbidden coupling as its
forbidden in Islam and hold great punishment. It also tells when we pass by any absurd
thing, pass it with dignity. Don’t attend immoral gatherings, music concerts, evil games
zones.
For all the above verses mentioned, Allah has set great reward for people to follow them
like promised them the highest place in Jannat and will receive eternal peace.

Importance of social ethics in the light of Surah Al Hujuraat

Surah Hujuraat is a Madni surah and is the 49th chapter of the holy Quran.
This Surah gives us an overall prospect of a true and uncontaminated community in which
not only the tongue and ears of the selves, rather even their thoughts and reflections are
not given completely loose reign, such that are open to say whatever they want to say, hear
whatever they want to hear, or do whatever they wish to do in connection to other-selves.

ِ ُ ‫ ﯾَٰـ ٓﺄ َﯾﱡَﮩﺎ ٱﻟﱠِﺬﯾَﻦ َءاَﻣﻨُٓﻮاْ إِن َﺟﺎ َٓءُﻛۡﻢ ﻓَﺎِﺳُۢﻖ ﺑِﻨَﺒَ ۬ﺈ ٍ ﻓَﺘ َﺒَﯿﱠﻨُٓﻮاْ أ َن ﺗ‬is the 6th verse which means “Oh
‫ﺼﯿﺒُﻮاْ ﻗَ ۡﻮَۢﻣﺎ ﺑَِﺠَﮭٰـﻠٍَ۬ﺔ‬
you who believe; if an evil-doer comes to you with a report, look carefully into it,
lest you harm a people in ignorance.” In this verse, the devotees are told to observe
carefully the news and stories that are given to us, in order to identify right from wrong,
ahead of propagating it to others. If we don’t do this, it becomes easy to spread false
information and this can hurt those around us who may take the statements at face value.

In the 9th verse “ۖ‫ﺻِﻠُﺤﻮاْ ﺑَۡﯿﻨَُﮩَﻤﺎ‬ ۡ َ ‫ﯨﻔَﺘ َﺎِن ِﻣَﻦ ٱۡﻟُﻤۡﺆِﻣﻨِﯿَﻦ ٱۡﻗﺘ َﺘ َﻠُﻮاْ ﻓَﺄ‬cٓ ‫طﺎ‬
َ ‫ ”َوإِن‬which translates as ““And if
two parties of the believers quarrel, make peace between them.” This verse is somewhat
self-explanatory. If there is a group that is fighting, taking the initiative to solve the
problems within them is something that is not only rewarding in this world but also in the
next eternal life. The same verse proceeds to address justice: ‫ﺻِﻠُﺤﻮاْ ﺑَۡﯿﻨَُﮩَﻤﺎ ﺑِﭑۡﻟﻌَۡﺪِل‬ ۡ َ ‫ﻓَﺈ ِن ﻓَﺎ َٓءۡت ﻓَﺄ‬
‫ﺐ ٱۡﻟُﻤۡﻘِﺴِﻄﻲ‬ ُ ‫”َوأ َۡﻗِﺴ‬. this part of the verse evokes us to hold the peace but to assure
‫َ ﯾُِﺤ ﱡ‬j‫ﻄٓﻮاْۖ إِﱠن ٱﱠ‬
that one is fair and just in the resolving of this matter. Furthermore, it toils as a reminder as
4
to the attributes that Allah (SWT) yearns for the followers of the Quran to have and in this
instance, it is being evenhanded.

Oh you who believe; let not (one) people laugh at (another) people, perchance they
may be better than them.” [Verse 11] . This verse teaches us that it is oftentimes we
look low on people as we conclude that they are more subordinate than us in any way.
Here we are commanded not to laugh or counterfeit others, particularly since there is a
possibility that they are better than us in any way or another. This verse then proceeds to
explain name-calling: “And do not find fault with your own people, nor call one
another nicknames.” This commences on from the prior part and bolsters the fact that
name-calling may be a result of putting oneself on a plinth ahead of others. It also prompts
us to shun doing one of the things that are remarkably common in a good many societies,
and that is locating mistakes within our own classes.

“Oh you who believe; avoid most of suspicion for surely, suspicion in some cases is
a sin.” [Verse 12] This verse tells us that it is very often we manage to base our opinions
on somebody on sneaking misgivings on who he or she is rather than who he or she truly
may be. Allah (SWT) too urges us that at times, doubt is affiliated with a sin.

“And do not spy on one another.” [Verse 12] This one is said in so simple words but is
something so incredibly indispensable to so many of our requirements. Along with it, Allah
(SWT) evokes to us that for the best social decorum, one should shun it.

“And do not backbite one another. Does one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead
brother, and you abhor it.” [Verse 12] The Holy Book here brings forward a comparison
to show how cruel the action of backbiting is, and compares it to eating the meat of your
very own brother. For a healthy and functioning community, one should not indulge in
backbiting.
“Surely the most honourable of you with Allah is the one among you who is most
careful of his duty.” [Verse 13] This verse illustrates the debate on marriage and equity,
prompting people that they were produced from a male and a female and into families. The
verse then proceeds to show one of the most significant verses on equity, cautioning us
that nothing places one man over the other in the sight of Allah, not gender, race, or
anything within; the ones who are most important in the eyes of Allah is the one who
has taqwa and God-awareness.

Conclusion
These two chapters of the Holy Quran are a complete guide on how to live in a community
which is both socially and religiously acceptable. These ethics are vital to regulate law and
order in the state. These show us the right way to treat others resulting in a healthy and
strong society with moral ethics and values.
