Introduction
Purpose of the module:
The purpose of ALDE 111 is to assist students in developing and acquiring the necessary academic
literacy skills to function effectively in an academic environment.

On completion of this module The student will prove that he/she has attained the

Module plan:
In this module academic listening, reading and writing skills will be developed.

Assessment
Requirements for successful completion of the module
You need a final module mark of at least 50% to pass the module. This mark is calculated as follows:
Participation mark: Counts 60% of the final module mark and you need a minimum of 40% to
qualify for the examination.
Examination mark: Counts 40% of the final mark and you need a minimum of 40% in the
examination to pass the module.
Assessment plan:
A) Assessment that may contribute towards your participation mark and give feedback on
your learning (Formative assessment)
The participation mark is earned by completing various assignments, tests and exercises either in
class, outside class, or on eFundi. A detailed Assessment plan for the semester will be provided.

B) Examination (Summative assessment)


You write an examination during or outside the examination period. More information will be available
on your Assessment plan as well as on the eFundi page for ALDE 111.
