Atma Asta is a wondrous and highly anticipated yearly event hosted by
SMAN 8 Bandung. It exalt itself by bringing spectacular celebration of music,
creativity, and community. Attendees from all over Bandung and beyond
have the chance to connect with friends, sing with their idols, and create
ever-lasting memories. This year’s installment—titled Kainova—aims to bring
a fresh and ambitious innovations to this endeered event. Kainova surprised
us with a superb lineup of beloved Indonesian artists, up and coming bands,
and SMAN 8’s own Asta Musik that electrified the crowd.
The term Atma Asta itself stemmed from sanskrit’s origin, “Atma” meaning
soul and “Asta” meaning eight. The term represents an embodiment of the
student’s ever-burning aspirations, and a reflection of their preserverance in
attaining them. On the other hand, “KAINOVA” is a portmanteau of three
Greek words, “KAI ephycitta” which means success, “epiNOmos” which
signifies enterprise, and “noVA” which stands for new—a successful new
enterprise. KAINOVA brings about a theme of space travel, elucidating a
journey to meet the stars. The event was held on September 7th 2024 with
its venue at SECAPA AD.
Kainova was the first event that I’ve ever watched from Atma Asta. It truly
bewildered me how much effort was put into edifying this show. The first two
performances was from up-and-coming bands, Roomates and The Dynamic
Quest. They performed on a spacious main stage with a wide screen behind
them. I especially love how they present captivating illustration on it to
amplify the mood. On the right wing of the main stage lies a large screen
that highlights the artists performing on the stage. While I’ve never heard
both of these bands, their heartfelt music and mastery of multiple genres
convinced me that they’re talented musicians.
Next, there was a performance by Atma Asta’s star guests, HIVI. Their fast-
paced and cheerful songs brought excitement into the crowd. While the next
band—Parade Hujan—presented a slow-paced and contemplating songs.
Pamungkas intensifies this melancholic atmosphere by bringing his slower-
pacced songs. The next band to perform—The Panturas—surprized the crowd
with their unique style of music. They touched upon a larger spectrum of
themes in their songs. This certainly provided a well-needed break from the
romance-filled songs.
While the sky was starting to turn dark, the music remained playing. The
next band to perform was certainly a spectacle which was put forward by
SMAN 8’s students themselves. Asta Musik came onto the stage exclaiming
the school’s musical talentas. It was a treat seeing SMAN 8’s own performing
for thousands. This performance was the first to experiment with the stage
lighting. It opened a new way to intensify the mood. Juicy Luicy was next to
perform. They brought an interactive show opon the audience.
They saved the best for last, as the next artists to perform on stage were
Raisa and Tulus. Their appearance turned the crowd wild. They were a gift
for those who stayed until the end. The show ended with a performance from
Club Dangdut Racun which made the crowd shakes. This performance
showed the magnitude of creativity allowed by the stage’s lighting. All-in-all,
Atma Asta was a great event fueled by the passion of SMAN 8’s students that
will be cherished throughout.
