Detailed Lesson Plan in Agriculture: Use Farm Tools and Equipment

I. Objective

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. Identify and classify various farm tools and equipment based on their uses.
2. Value the importance of proper use and maintenance of farm tools in agricultural work.
3. Demonstrate the correct way to use and maintain selected farm tools.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Use of Farm Tools and Equipment

b. Materials: Actual farm tools, multimedia projector, pictures of tools, marker, handouts
c. Reference: Agricultural Crop Production Module, pages 4–22

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Classroom Management

Good morning, everyone! Good morning, Sir!

Who will lead the prayer today? Daniel will lead the prayer today.

Who is absent today? Peter and James are absent today.

Please make sure your desks are organized, All set, Ma'am/Sir!
and your materials are ready for the lesson.
B. Review

Let’s start with a quick review. In our last We used plows, harrows, and rakes for soil

why it’s important to use specific tools for and to make the tasks easier and safer.
different farming tasks?

Exactly! Knowing which tool to use is

crucial for success in farming. Let’s move
on to today’s lesson.
C. Motivation
I’ll now show you silhouette pictures of
some common tools. You’ll guess their
names and uses.

Let’s start with the first one.

What is this tool used for? It’s a rake, used for leveling the soil.

That’s right! The rake is used for gathering

and leveling soil. Let’s move on to the next
one.
What about this one? Can you tell me its It’s a bolo, used for cutting weeds and small
name and use? branches.

Correct! The bolo is a versatile tool used for

cutting branches and clearing weeds. Let’s
continue.

Great job! Let’s see how well you We’re very excited on this lesson sir!
understand the different tools. We’ll
continue the lesson with more details on
their uses and importance.
D. Lesson Proper

Today, we are going to discuss various farm

tools, implements, and equipment, and how
each plays an important role in agricultural
crop production.

Farm tools are typically light and manually

operated, while implements are pulled by
animals or machines, and equipment refers
to large machinery used for major tasks.

We will begin by discussing the various

farm tools, such as the bolo, spade, shovel,
and rake. Each has its own specific use on
the farm.

First, let me discuss Shovel. It is mainly

used for digging and transferring soil or
other materials from one place to another.

When using the shovel, ensure your feet

are placed wide apart for stability and push
with your legs to move the shovel
efficiently into the ground.

Well done, John!

Next, let’s talk about Rake. This tool is used

for leveling the soil, gathering leaves, and
cleaning up debris.

The Hand Trowel is another important tool

for loosening soil around plants and for
gardening tasks such as planting small
seeds or fertilizers.

We also use Farm Implements, such as the

plow and harrow, for soil tilling and land
preparation. A plow turns over the soil,
while a harrow breaks up clumps after
plowing.

Finally, we use Farm Equipment, like

tractors and water pumps, for large-scale
tasks such as plowing, harvesting, and
irrigation.
E. Generalization

Now that we’ve discussed farm tools, Using the right tool ensures the task is done
implements, and equipment, why is it efficiently and safely.
important to use the right tool for each
task?

Exactly! The right tool improves

productivity, reduces risk, and ensures
better results.

Now, why do you think it’s important to Maintenance helps the tools last longer,
maintain these tools? work properly, and avoid accidents.

Well said! Regular maintenance prevents

tool breakdowns and ensures they perform
optimally.
F. Application
Now, let’s apply what we’ve learned. I’ll
divide you into groups, and each group will
get a set of farm tools.

Your task is to identify the tools and list

their uses and maintenance steps.

After 10 minutes, each group will present

their findings to the class.

You all did an excellent job identifying the

tools and explaining their maintenance
steps.
IV. Evaluation
1. Identify the correct use of the following tools based on their pictures:
a. Spade
b. Rake
c. Sickle
2. Explain why regular maintenance of farm tools is crucial.
3. Match the tools to their specific tasks in crop production.

V. Assignment
Research and list the different types of farm equipment used in large-scale crop production.
Identify their functions and the importance of each. Prepare to discuss in the next lesson.
