Lesson Planning and Conceptualizing ICT Projects
1 for Social Change

What I Need to Know

This lesson was designed and written with you in mind. This will guide you in
developing ICT projects for Social Change that will have an impact in the society
through careful selection of ICT platform and an effective creation of a concept
paper.

What’s In

Identify platforms and applications that can be used as a medium for a

social campaign and describe how they can be used effectively to reach their
intended audience. A sample is given as your guide. Write your answer on a
separate sheet of paper.

Platforms and How can you effectively use this platform?

Applications
Example: Social Media – Example: Broadcasting your ideas and concepts to convince people
Podcast and gain support.

What’s New
ICT Projects undergoes intensive planning and conceptualizing before
implementation. It is important to have a clear plan of actions, budget,
responsibilities, work requirements and timeframe.

Examine the sample concept paper below. Can you identify the different
parts of a concept paper?

Safe Drinking Water Awareness Program

For years, many students depend on the school’s drinking fountain. Aside
from saving them money, the school’s drinking fountain contains filters that
make the water safe enough to drink. But according to our research, the last time
the water was tested was about three years ago and by using the drinking
fountains around school, it is highly questionable that the water is still safe for
drinking. Our

4
group has theorized that the natural wear-and-tear of the drinking fountain has
led to the water’s unpleasant taste. Our group, The Mosaic Alliance, aims to create
several online sources that will help promote the awareness of people involved
about this problem and create an online petition with the goal of improving our
drinking fountains here in school.

Our group aims to create Change.org petition, a Facebook group, and a

blog to help achieve our goals. We will be creating infographics and other related
information connected to the dangers of drinking unsafe water especially at a
young age. The scope of our project is to be able to reach the school’s
administration, parents, teachers and students to sign our petition.

We will be requiring a week to develop this project and we will start our
promotion right after we have uploaded the website. We will also be using our own
resources so the funding for this project will be close to none. Our expenses may
include the printing of campaign materials and the Internet and computer shop
rentals in case we need more time outside school hours. We will also be using free
services already offered by Facebook, Blogger, and Change.org.

Should you have any questions about our project feel free to contact us at
[email protected].

Were you able to identify the six parts of the concept paper? What are the six
parts of a concept paper?

What is It
When making a project, always start with the end in mind. Think outside the
box and be creative in your content. Identify various opportunities based on your
target audience. Set a goal to have a clear plan of actions, responsibilities, work
requirements, timeframe and budget if needed.
Concept Paper
Concept papers are summaries of projects or issues that contemplate
interests, experience and expertise that commonly serve as a purpose of delivering
an in-depth discussion of a certain topic that a person has a strong position on. It
can also be used as a mainstream educational tool to develop and to create solution
to a certain problem or issue. It provides guidance for the implementation of a project
and gives good practices, viewpoint, advocacy, belief and values or other correlated
issues that need and promote actions to be taken in the future. Your concept paper
can range from two (2) to three (3) pages for a small research project and up to 20
pages for immense projects.
For formatting, the following are suggested:
a. Font Style – It should be formal such as Times New Roman, Garamond,
Baskerville, or similar Serif typefaces
b. Line and Paragraph Spacing – Double space
c. Font Size – 12 points

5
Key Points on Making Your Concept Paper
1. Raise with a concept topic or idea that you are genuinely interested.
2. Write down the questions associated with the topic or idea you have
chosen.
3. Create a possible solution from each of the questions that you have
developed.
4. Classify what kind of data you need that will answer your questions and
identify how you will gather the information needed.
5. Identify how you will analyze, interpret, and present the overall data you
gathered.
Elements of a Concept Paper
 Title Page – The title of your concept paper will serve a lot in terms of getting
the audience interest, so make sure to have a short but a catchy and
interesting title of your chosen issue. Stick to the main point of the chosen
topic and use relevant, easy-to-understand words and be concise.
 Introduction – This element of a concept paper is the most important part
since you must keep on pursuing and adding value to convince the reader
about your project’s mission and vision. In this part, you should detail your

details about your project. It discusses the steps and procedures on how you
will do things properly. It also expounds the methods and plans on how you
will answer the problems of the issue and in revealing the efficacy of your

project needs funds to be published and materialized. Support does not only
mean monetary in nature, but it can also be moral support from your friends,
relatives and among others.
