Answer- The habit of his friends making pranks on others made the narrator suspicious because
their princely welcome made the narrator’s to think suspicious.

 Why did the narrator feel the need to be ‘watchful’?

Answer- The narrator felt the need to be watchful because his friends’ behaviour found something
suspicious and also The habit of his friends making practical jokes about others made him watchful.

 What made the narrator feel that his friends were spying on him.

Answer-When all his friends left the narrator in the room after dinner, they started laughing and
whispering outside the door in the corridor, which the narrator overheard. This is where the narrator
was convinced that they were keeping an eye on him or spying on him.

 What did the narrator do after his friends left him at the door for the night?

Answer- After his friends left him at the door for the night, the narrator first cast a glance around the
walls, the furniture, the ceiling, the hangings and the floor in order to justify his suspicion.

Answer- After sitting on the armchair, the narrator started thinking that he was a fool because time
was passing and the armchair on which he was sitting was absolutely solid and intact. no, he did not
angry with his friends because his friends have not tried any practical jokes on him yet.
