during first 15 minutes. This time is to be spent in reading the question paper. The time given at the head
of this paper is the time allowed for writing the answers.

on the same sheet as the rest of the answer.

a) Given f(x) = 2x3 + ax2 + bx – 6, where a and b are constants. When f(x) is divided
by (2x – 1) the remainder is –5 and when f(x) is divided by (x + 2) there is no
remainder.
(i) Find the value of a and the value of b.
(ii) Factorise f(x) completely
b) The coordinates of three points are given below A(−2,1), B(6,– 1 ) and C(5,2).
Determine the equation of the straight line which passes through C and is parallel
to AB, giving the answer in the form ax + by = c, where a, b and c are integers.
c) P, Q, R and S are points on the circumference
of a circle, centre, O. PT and TR are tangents to
the circle. OST is a straight line. ∠ OTR = 38˚.
Find the size of the angle: (i) ∠ROT (ii) ∠PQR
(iii) ∠SRT (iv) ∠PSO (v) ∠PST
Question 3: (4 + 4 + 5)
a) From a circular cylinder of diameter 10 cm and height 12 cm, a conical cavity of
the same base radius and of the same height is hollowed out. Find the volume
and the whole surface of the remaining solid. ( take π = 3.14)

b) PQR is a triangle. S is a point on the side QR of
∆PQR such that ∠PSR = ∠QPR. Given QP = 8
cm, PR = 6 cm and SR = 3 cm
(i) Prove ∆PQR ∼ ∆SPR
(ii) Find the length of QR and PS
(iii) area of ΔPQR : area of ΔSPR.
c) Draw an ogive for the following frequency distribution:

two significant figures. (You may use mathematical tables for this question).
c) A vertical tower standing on a horizontal plane is surmounted by a vertical
flagstaff. At a point 100 m away from the foot of the tower, the angle of elevation
of the top and bottom of a tower the angle of depression of the top and bottom of
the flagstaff are 54° and 42° respectively. Find the height of the flagstaff. Give
your answer correct to the nearest metre.

b) The manufacturing cost of an item is ₹ 900. The manufacturer marked up the
price of his items by 60% and then sold them at a discount of 10%. If a consumer
buys 10 such items, when the rate of GST is 10% find the GST paid by him on
the purchase of these items.

c) Draw a circle of radius of 3 cm. Take a point P at a point 5.5 cm from the centre
of the circle. From point P, draw two tangents to the circle. Measure and write
the length of any one tangent.

a) Find Given that ‘x’ is positive, using properties of proportion, find the value of ‘x’:
b) If x = 3 is a root of the equation x2 – x + k = 0, find the value of ‘p’ so that the roots
of the equation x2 + k(2x + k + 2) + p are equal.
c) Construct a Δ ABC in which AB = 4 cm, BC = 5 cm and ∠ABC = 120°.
(i) Locate the point P, such that ∠BAP = 90° and BP = CP.
(ii) Find the length of BP.
Question 10: (3 + 3 + 4)
a) Amit Kumar invests ₹36000 in buying ₹100 shares at ₹20 premium. The dividend
is 15% per annum. Find:
i. the number of shares he buys
ii. his yearly dividend
iii. the percentage return on his investment.
b) Using remainder and factor theorem, factorize completely, the given polynomial:

c) Use a graph paper to answer the following questions. (Take 1 cm = 1 unit on
both axis)
i. Plot A (4, 4), B (4, – 6) and C (8, 0), the vertices of a triangle ABC.
ii. Reflect ABC on the y-axis and name it as A’B’C’.
iii. Write the coordinates of the images A’, B’ and C’.
iv. Give a geometrical name for the figure AA’ C’B’ BC.
