Metric DIN 6798 Serrated Lock Washers that are available in Form A (external serrations), Form J (Internal serrations) and
Form V (conical for countersunk head screws). Form A has teeth on the outer edge the washer allowing for maximum
contact on the biggest possible surface area. The teeth are superimposed on one another maximizing the friction between
the surface of the substrate and fastener. Form J has teeth that extend inward from the inside edge of the washer and is
recommended when the head of the screw is smaller than the diameter washer or when the surface of the fastener is
irregular or convex. Form V is conical in shape with teeth extending outwards and is used with countersunk head screws
with a 90degree countersink. The teeth bite into the surface of the substrate to oppose any loosening forces. Aspen

DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung - German Institute for Standardization) standards are issued for a variety of
components including industrial fasteners as DIN 6798 Serrated Lock Washers. The DIN standards remain common in
Germany, Europe and globally even though the transition to ISO standards is taking place. DIN standards continue
to be used for parts which do not have ISO equivalents or for which there is no need for standardization.

1) Mechanical properties of stainless steel for metric DIN 6798 Serrated Lock Washers
Stainless steels can be divided into three groups of steel - austenitic, ferritic and martensitic. Austenitic steel is by
far the most common type (>90% of commercial fasteners). The steel groups and strength classes are designated by a
four-digit sequence of letters and numbers (eg A2-70) as shown in the following table. DIN EN ISO 3506 governs screws
and nuts made from stainless steel.
