A body of weight 100N is placed on a rough Horizontal plane. Determine the coefficient of

12 A body resting on a rough horizontal plane required a pull of 80KN inclined at 30 0 to the
plane just to move it. It was also found that a push of 100KN inclined at 30 0 to the plane just
moved the body. Determine the weight of the body and coefficient of friction.
13 A block of weight 500N is resisting on the incline plane making an angle of 20º to the
horizontal. Calculate the value of force P applied parallel to the plane to just move the block
up the plane if the coefficient of friction is 0.14.
14 A belt is running over a pulley of diameter 1.5 m at 350 rpm. The angle of contact is 150º
and the coefficient of friction is 0.30. If the maximum tension in the belt is 500 N, determine
the power transmitted by it.
15 The centres of two pulleys of diameter 12 cm and 24 cm are 30 cm apart. Find the length of
the belt required if both the pulley is required to rotate in the same directions. Find also the
angles of lap for the two pulleys.
16 A belt supports two weights W1 and W2 over a pulley as shown in figure. If W1=2000 N,
find the minimum weight W2 to keep W1 in equilibrium. Assume µ=0.3.

through various members of a cantilever truss which is loaded as shownbelow.

A uniform ladder of weight 1000 N and of length 4 m rests on a horizontal ground and
leans against a smooth vertical wall. The ladder makes an angle of 60 degree with the
25 horizontal. When a man of weight 750 N stands on the ladder at a distance of 3 m along the
length of the ladder from the top of the ladder, the ladder is at the point of sliding.
Determine the coefficient of friction between the ladder and the floor.
Block A of weight 520 N rests on the horizontal top of block B for weight 700 N as shown
in fig. Block A is tied to support C by a cable at 300 to horizontal. Coefficient of friction is
0.4 for al contact surfaces. Determine the minimum value of the horizontal force P just to
move the block B. How much is the tension in the cable then?

A car having mass 1 tonnes has a total frictional resistance of 40N while travelling down
along the inclined road with engine in switch of state. The inclination of the road is such
that the vehicle vertically comes down by 1m distance while travelling 100 m distance

plane is 40 kmph. Find the speed of vehicle after running down the inclined plane for 90
