7. Read the following passage and decide if the sentences are True or False.
Would you like a robot in your house? It is now generally accepted that in the future, robots will
take over many of our tasks, especially jobs of a repetitive nature. But it is doubtful if robots will
ever be able to do any of the more creative types of work - or indeed if people would want them to
do. In the home, robots would probably be used to do the cleaning, table-laying, scrubbing and
washing up, but it is considered unlikely so far that they will be used to do the cooking - at least not
in the near future. Robots in the home might not be creative enough to do the cooking, plan the
meals, and so on. They would be used as slaves, freeing people to do more of the things they want.
46. It is thought that robots will be able to do the same jobs every day.
47. It is certain that robots will be able to help us with creative tasks.
48. Robots will help us carry out some of the housework such as washing dishes.
49. In the near future, robots will be used to do such things as cooking.
50. Robots will have to do what people want as servants.

8. Read the passage and answer the questions.

A blizzard is a snowstorm that has strong winds. Usually, these winds are greater than 56 kilometers
an hour. Blizzards also last for at least three hours. These two conditions make it dangerous to be
outside during a blizzard. Even if people are indoors, they are not completely safe from harm.
During a blizzard, it is very hard to see anything. This makes it risky to travel by car. Drivers may
crash into things because they cannot see what is ahead of them. In addition, the mix of winds and
snow makes roads very icy. Cars can easily slip and crash. Cars can also get stuck in a blizzard.
Drivers may have to wait in their car in the cold for hours until help arrives. So, it is best to stay off
the road when there is a blizzard.
However, blizzards can be harmful even when people stay indoors. Snow, winds, and ice can
damage wires outside. This can shut off electricity and telephone lines. Pipes may freeze and burst.
This can leave people without heat or water. If a blizzard is very bad, people may be trapped in their
homes for days. That is why people should keep emergency supplies, such as food, bottled water,
and batteries, in the house.
51. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to prepare for a blizzard B. What conditions cause a blizzard
C. Why a blizzard can be dangerous D. Where people should go in a blizzard
52. What is NOT true about blizzards?
A. They make it hard to see. B. They have very strong winds.
C. They last for at least three hours. D. They have at least 56 cm of snow.
53. What causes car accidents during a blizzard?
A. Icy roads B. Stuck cars
C. Drivers who become cold D. Too many cars on the road
54. What is NOT an example of a blizzard emergency supply?
A. food B. water C. wires D. batteries

feeling of fear spread over his body. He knew that he couldn’t outrun the lion, and he knew the lion wanted to eat him
for lunch.
Just then, the donkey got an idea.
“Hello!” the donkey called to the lion. Surprised, the lion looked up at the donkey. “I was wondering if you could help

The lion chuckled to himself. “This is going to be much easier than I thought,” he thought to himself.
“I can most certainly help you,” called the lion as he strode over to the donkey.
“Oh, great,” said the donkey. “You see, as I was walking under this apple tree, I managed to get a stick caught in my
hoof. It hurts to walk on it. I was hoping that you would remove the stick for me.”
The lion smiled so big that all his teeth showed. The donkey gulped, swallowing quickly.

2.1. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the
questions.
Early humans saw a variety of natural colours around them, from the browns and greens of the soil and plants to
the deep blues and red of the sky. They painted their bodies with colours from nature to signal aggression towards an
enemy, or to make themselves attractive to a mate.
A girl and a rainbow of crushed ice flavours at Chowpatty Beach, India. Over the centuries, the sources of colours
such as blue, purple and red were highly valued and they were often worth as much as gold. In the 19th century, a young
chemistry student manufactured the first synthetic dye, and suddenly the world became a much more colourful place, in
the 20th century, scientists discovered the psychological effects of colours, and people found ways to use this discovery to
influence our feelings and behaviour.
RED
Red, the colour of blood, symbolises fire, love and anger. In Eastern cultures, people believe it brings luck, wealth
and success. In humans, the colour red can send different messages. Some people redden, for example, when they are
angry or embarrassed. Researchers have discovered that in sports the team that is wearing red is more likely to win. Why?
Because red seems to be the colour that signals dominance, giving those dressed in red an advantage in sporting events. In
many animal species (including humans), contact with this bold colour causes the heart rate to increase. However, one of
red’s lighter shades, pink, can have the opposite effect on people. Men in prisons are less aggressive when the walls are a
specific shade of pink.
YELLOW
Yellow, the colour that comes to mind when we think of sunshine, is found throughout nature and the man-made
world as a colour that commands attention; indeed, it is one of the easiest colours to see. This highly visible shade is found
on everything from school buses to traffic signs and pens that we use to highlight important information in a text. The
colour is also used to caution people; football players, for example, are shown a yellow card as a reminder to behave. It
can be used as a stimulant as well: in a number of studies, yellow has been found to help children focus on their work and
do better at school.
BLUE
Blue, the colour of the sky and sea, is associated in many cultures with water, religious objects, and protection
against evil. Its darker shades represent calm, stability and power. Dark blue, for example, is the colour of the business
suit or police uniform; it tells others, ‘I am in control,’ or ‘I am trustworthy.’ Blue is also associated with sadness. It’s
common in English, for example, when you are feeling sad or depressed, to talk about ‘feeling blue’, while in Iran, blue is
the colour of mourning, worn when a person dies.
Like pink, blue has a calming effect on people. Rooms painted blue help people to relax or sleep. Sleeping pills
are often coloured blue to suggest exactly this idea. This colour also seems to reduce feelings of hunger. Blue food is
rarely seen in nature, and when it is, such food is usually no longer healthy to consume. It’s just one more example of the
power that colour can hold over us.
