Series and Parallel Circuit Lab

The document outlines an experiment to determine current and voltage in series and parallel circuits using specific resistors and a 9-volt battery. It includes a detailed procedure for setting up circuits, measuring voltage drops and currents, and recording results in tables. The document also prompts for analysis and discussion of the findings related to series and parallel circuits.

Title: Series and Parallel circuits

Aim: to determine the current and voltage in a series and parallel circuit

Introduction:

Materials/ Apparatus: 3 resistors with resistance of (2 ohms, 4 ohms and 6 ohms), wire, 9-volt
battery, switch, 3 ammeters, Voltmeter, PHET online simulation (circuit-construction-kit-
dc_en.html)

Procedure:

1. Set up a series circuit using the circuit components using the circuit construction
simulation

2. Determine the voltage drop across each individual resistor using the voltmeter and record
the information in Table 1

3. Determine the current flowing through each individual resistor using the ammeter and
record the information in Table 1
4. Repeat step 1 and create a parallel circuit

5. Connect (3) ammeters in parallel

6. Determine the voltage drop across each individual resistor using the voltmeter and record
the information in Table 2

7. Determine the current flowing through each individual resistor from the ammeters and
record the information in Table 2
