LAB REPORT 3 Surveying

The lab report outlines the objectives and procedures for measuring distance through pacing in a surveying context. It details the instruments used, the steps taken to measure distances from a center point to assigned points, and the computations involved in determining pace factors and distances. Additionally, it includes remarks on precautions and communication to ensure accurate measurements.

LAB REPORT#1
PACING
Title

OBJECTIVE: a) To determine individual Pace Factor

b) To measure distance by Pacing

I. INSTRUMENT & ACCESSORIES:

Measuring Tape, Yellow Pad Paper, and Ballpoint pen.

II. PROCEDURE:

1. Assigning points to be measured.

a. Our instructor assigned area to be measured and set points to be the guide or
coordinates.

b. Then our instructor set a center point of the area.

c. Since the points are set, then we are off to measure the lines created from the center
point to the assigned points.

d. From the center point to the assigned points we can cut each area to form lines, then
we can form a triangular shape area.
2. Measuring the lines from center point to the assigned points.

a. By assigning our group members to stand in each point given by our instructor we
easily locate the points to be measured.

b. Next, we assign our group members to be the rear tape man and the head tape man to
measure each point. Each member is given the chance to participate.

c. And also, we assigned one of our group members to list and draw our sketch diagram.

d. We repeat the same process of having an interval of 20 m maximum measuring. The

rear tape man will hold the tip of the measuring tape with exactly zero, and the head tape man
will extend the tape until it reaches the 20 m maximum range.

e. When the distance measured exceeds the maximum range of 20 m, the remaining
distance or the fractional measurement will be measured by measuring the exact distance/point
where the 20 m maximum stops, to the end point of the line.

f. Adding those two measurements we get the measurement of the full line.

g. We just repeat the process all over again in all the dimension of the given area to get
our desired sides to easily compute for the whole area.

III. COMPUTATIONS:

1. Computing Face Factor (PF)

2. Computing Paced Distance (PD)

3. Computing Relative Precision

IV. REMARKS, HINTS, AND PRECAUTIONS:

a. Prior to measurement the distance of the points should be firm.

b. The group members should keep the right point to point measuring using the tape measure.

c. The group members should also be consistent in communicating and listening properly to the
said measurements taken from the field to have less mistakes.

d. The data should be properly observed and used in the formulas given to have a more accurate
estimate of the area measured.
