SNHU Pet Supply Company Social Responsibility

Companies should have social responsibility. This means that they do not only focus on

stakeholder value maximization but also benefit society. To be socially responsible, businesses

must adopt policies that enhance societal well-being and reduce negative effects on society.

Investors and clients are now considering social responsibility for businesses, which is vital to

them as they engage (Coelho et al., 2023). The SNHU Pet Supply Company can be socially

responsible in various ways.

Socially Responsible Efforts

Toms was established in 2006 and is an international firm. It is a company that sells

footwear, and in 2011, it expanded to sell eyewear. Social responsibility is at the heart of the

company. This is because the business is committed to the welfare of the society. After selling a

pair of shoes, it ensures that another pair is donated to help needy children. As long as people

continue buying shoes from the company, needy children worldwide will continue to get help.

More than 35 million pairs have been given to needy children in around 70 countries globally.

When the firm started the eyewear business, it would use part of the profit from selling eyewear

to restore an individual's eyesight in a developing country. Just like with shoes, if people

continue purchasing eyewear from TOMS, many people with eye problems who cannot afford

treatment will be helped, and their eyesight will be saved (Naeini et al., 2015).

The Body Shop is committed to remaining socially responsible as a beauty-selling

product business. This is seen in ensuring the products sold cause no harm to people or the

environment. It encourages recycling to solve the global plastic menace that is out of control and

harms the environment. It also aims to have a supply chain that empowers the marginalized in
3

the world (Carroll, 2021). These practices show a socially responsible company committed to the

welfare of society.

Benefits

There are numerous benefits to a company practicing social responsibility. Companies

get to have cost savings. Employees prefer to work in socially responsible firms, reducing

turnover rates that can lead to a company spending more on hiring and training employees. Costs

can be cut when firms decide to switch to energy-saving products. Socially responsible firms are

innovative. They engage in ways that set them apart and attract more customers. TOMS, for

instance, has an innovative strategy that can attract more clients because people may feel good

that after they buy a pair of shoes, another is donated to a needy child. Increased brand

awareness can lead to a large customer base because customers will be attracted to products that

promote their welfare (Grand Canyon University, 2022).

Social Responsibility Policy

SNHU Pet Supply Company is there to supply their clients with optimal products for

their pets. What the company can do to be socially responsible is ensure that they offer shelter to

homeless animals that can be kept as pets. Through the profits made by the firm, they should use

part of them to ensure that homeless animals are cared for. This will help animals in need,

promoting their welfare like TOMS Company. SNHU Pet Supply Company can also ensure that

the packaging of their pet products causes no environmental harm. The company should

encourage recycling to ensure waste reduction and an improved environment, which The Body

Shop is committed to.

In conclusion, social responsibility should be at the core of every company. As firms

strive to make profits, they should also endeavor to ensure they make ethical decisions that
4

promote the welfare of society. Policies that lead to a firm being socially responsible should be

focused on and implemented, as numerous benefits exist.
