Area #3:
Your Financial
Health
Whether we like it or not, money is an integral part of our
social infrastructure.
Our attitudes towards money are often a construct of the
environment in which we live: our family, our community
and our culture. We are pre-programmed with many of our
beliefs about money.
While focusing all of our attention on financial goals can be
detrimental to our wellbeing, a lack of awareness, planning,
and accountability can have dire effects on our long-term
stability and security.
To foster a healthy relationship with money,
try the tips on the following pages.
1. Be Aware
The first and most important step towards mastering your financial situation
is to fully understand where you’re at.
Sticking your head in the sand and ignoring the facts will only increase anxiety
around money.
Start by making a list of all your assets (cash, savings, investments, property, etc.)
and liabilities (loans, credit card debt, outstanding invoices, etc.) to get a good
understanding of your current financial position.
If you’re running a business, try a full audit of your finances with an accountant or
bookkeeper to get the total picture of the financial health of your company.
Actions

2. Get Educated
Many of us weren’t taught the basics of financial management at home or work.
Make a commitment today to educate yourself about the fundamentals of money.
Download a short course, buy a basic business book, or consult with a financial
advisor to start yourself on a path to financial mastery.
Listen to podcasts about money or even consider enrolling in a business course at
your local learning facility.

3. Make a Plan
Want to get ahead? Set some financial goals and make a plan
to achieve them.
Start with small changes, such as setting up separate accounts for
Everyday Spending, Tax and Savings (as a minimum).
A budget will provide a review of all of your expenses and serves
as a reality check for the health of your current spending habits.

4. Be
Accountable
Share your financial situation and your plans with someone you trust.
This could be a friend or family member, or a professional advisor such as
your accountant, bookkeeper or business coach.
Sharing this information will help make you more accountable to putting
your plans in place and checking in regularly to monitor progress.
Actions
Try:
Ask a close friend or family member to help you be more accountable with your financial goals.

5. Ask for Help
Asking for help is a sign of strength and courage,
not weakness or defeat.
Depending on your financial situation, reach out to someone
you know and trust, and consider seeking professional help to
escalate a transformation around your money mindset.
