What is ICT?

Information Communication Technology (ICT) is a term for tools and

systems used to handle information. It includes both hardware and
software that help us access, store, share, and manage information.

Examples of ICT Tools:

- Hardware: Radios, TVs, phones (smart and non-smart), desktop

computers, laptops, and network devices.

- Software: Apps, platforms, and programs for working with information.

ICT is widely used in many industries and is an important part of modern

life. It can make life easier or harder, depending on how we use it. That’s
why learning to use ICT responsibly is very important.
CURRENT STATE OF ICT

ICT is constantly evolving with new trends shaping how we access and
share information. Here are some key developments:

1. Convergent Technologies

- This is when different devices combine into one. For example, a

smartphone can act as a TV, radio, computer, phone, camera, and GPS all
in one.

2. Social Media

- Platforms and apps that let people connect and share information in
online communities. Social media helps people communicate quickly with
many others.

3. Mobile Technologies

- Portable devices that make communication fast and easy. Over time,
these devices have become smaller and more convenient.

Difference Between World Wide Web (WWW) and Internet

Although people often use the terms interchangeably, the Web and

the Internet are not the same:

1. Internet

- The hardware: It’s the network of computers, cables, and connections

that link everything together.

2. World Wide Web (WWW)

- The software: It’s a system that uses the internet to share information.
It works through protocols like HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) to
load websites, apps, and online platforms.

Simply put, the internet is the foundation, while the web is how we
access information using that foundation.

Web Versions (Simplified)

The web has evolved through three main versions, each defined by its
features and functions:

1. Web 1.0 (Static Web)

- Main Feature: Read-only.

- Description: The first version of the web where websites were static,
meaning users could only view information without interacting.

-Example: Early websites with simple text, images, and hyperlinks, like
online encyclopedias.
2. Web 2.0 (Dynamic Web)

- Main Feature: Read and Write.

- Description: This version introduced interactivity, allowing users to

contribute content, such as through social media, blogs, and forums.

- Examples: Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia.

3. Web 3.0 (Semantic Web)

- Main Feature: Read, Write, and Intelligent Interaction.

- Description: The latest version focuses on artificial intelligence (AI),

machine learning, and personalized experiences. It aims to make the web
smarter by understanding and processing data better.

- Examples: Virtual assistants (like Siri and Alexa), blockchain-based

applications, and AI-driven platforms.

These web versions are not "updates" but stages in how the web has
developed to meet changing needs.
