Social
No discrimination/ Diversity/ Equity
First off, let’s talk about how Sephora meets diversity to maintain social sustainability.
Sephora actively promotes diversity among its leadership teams and employees. They have refined
their hiring processes, mentoring programs, and internships, to make sure that there is no bias during
the recruitment.
Sephora has introduced training modules covering topics like antiracism and unconscious bias for all
of its staff to create a more inclusive shopping experience.
With that being said, Sephora is advancing SDG 10 (Reduce inequalities) in this aspect.
Economical
1Expanding Market (Racial, age, product- skincare)
Last year, Sephora signed a Pledge to expanding their supply chain and product selection, especially
by adding more Black-owned brands. In just one year, they more than doubled the number of
Black-owned brands they offer.
By bringing in more diverse brands, Sephora creates opportunities for a broader range of people. It
ensures that the variety of products meets the diverse needs and preferences of its customers. Which
illustrates the positive impact of achieving SDG 10, reducing inequalities.
2Financial:
Moving on, in 2022, Sephora achieved its strongest year yet, marking record sales and profits.
According to the financial statement, their revenue in the first half of 2022 was 22% higher than the
previous year, and profits from recurring operations rose by a remarkable 181%.
2Potential:
Furthermore, Sephora values market research, as the world shifts towards digital shopping, Sephora
understands the importance of staying adaptable. By keeping an eye on changing shopping habits and
customer expectations, Sephora ensures its long-term profitability.
Environmental
Online retail
Sephora committed to a 50% reduction in carbon footprint across stores, headquarters, and
distribution centers by 2026, showcasing its dedication to environmental responsibility.
Online shopping inherently reduces carbon emissions by minimizing trips to physical stores.
Efficient inventory management in the e-commerce platform significantly reduces overstocking,
minimizing waste and environmental impact. Also, online shopping contributes by reducing the need
for single-use plastic bags.
Furthermore, remote work for employees reduces daily commuting, leading to lower energy
consumption.
These actions again meet SDG 12, aiming to create a greener planet.
Our advice to Sephora to reduce attrition in order to improve its economic and social sustainability is
to improve job satisfaction by offering flexible work hours, boost motivation among employees by
providing performance rewards, and emphasize employee value by emphasizing the importance of
each employee's role.
