Course Description
This course is devoted to identifying and describing the various strategies a company can pursue to achieve
superior performance. Many of these strategies are generic – that is, they apply to all organizations, large or
small, manufacturing or service, and profit-seeking or not-for-profit. The central aim of this course is to give
a thorough understanding of the analytical techniques and skills necessary to identify and exploit strategies
successfully. Specifically, the course covers; the meaning & role of strategic management, the nature of
strategic management, strategy formulation, environmental scanning, understanding of corporate, business,
and functional level strategies, strategy implementation, evaluation, and control.

Course objectives
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
✓ Understand the fundamental concepts of strategy, the levels at which strategy operates & the strategic
management process.
✓ Know how to incorporate the claims of stakeholders in strategy formation, implementation evaluation
and control.
✓ Analyze internal and external environmental factors that affect strategy formulation, implementation,
evaluation, & control.
✓ Develop skills for effectively managing strategies across various organizational contexts.
✓ Understand how to design and implement strategies aligned with an organization’s vision, mission,
and values to achieve long-term success.

Mode of Delivery

The course will be taught through lectures, discussion, article review, case analysis, term paper, and group,
and individual exercises

Mode of Assessment

The assessment of academic performance will be based on:


 Mini Assignments (throughout the semester) 5%
 Assignment 1 (throughout the semester) 10%
 Assignment 2 (throughout the semester) 15%
 Test 1 (mid semester) 20%
 Final Examination (End of semester) 50%
