PLASTERING, PAVING AND TILING WORKS

1.0 Method of Measurement

Finishing work is measured the area in Contract with the base


contrary to the SMM, work to beams is classified separately from work
to soffits.

2.0 Thicknesses

The thicknesses stated for insitu finishings, beds and backings are
nominal. The Contractor is to allow for the additional thicknesses
required due to structural tolerances, keying etc.

3.0 Rates to Include

3.1 The rates are to include for :-

i) Narrow widths and small quantities.

ii) Temporary rules, temporary screeds, temporary supports and


template.

iii) Cleaning, raking out joints, hacking, slurrying and wetting the
base to form a key.

iv) All notching and holes.

v) Straight, raking and curved cutting.

vi) Working or fitting up to and making good around frames, light


fittings, grilles, air bricks, sanitary fittings, switches, sockets,
pipes, brackets and the like.

vii) Joints between different types of finishes.

viii) Joints between new and old finishes.

ix) Dubbing out to achieve the nominal thickness stated.

x) Groin point and other intersections of curved surfaces.

xi) In respect of linear items: Short lengths, formed, cut or


purpose-made angles, junctions and ends.

xii) In respect of in-situ finishings : internal angles, arises,


rounded edges, quirks, throats, rounded coves and external
angles not exceeding 25mm radius.

3.0 Rates to Include (Cont’d)

xiii) In respect of mosaic : setting one row of tesserae at and angle


of 45 degrees at junctions of horizontal and vertical surfaces.

xiv) In respect of carpeting : sewn and taped seams in carpets and


underlays; matching patterns in patterned carpets.

xv) Masking of adjacent work.

xvi) All other sundry items of a like nature.

Rates for laying of polished granite and marble slabs to walls are to
include for metal anchorages and all necessary fixing accessories.

4.0 Specialist Suspended Ceilings

4.1 Ceiling areas are measured nett, after deducting all voids and
openings exceeding 0.50 square metres in area.

4.2 Cutting or leaving openings for light fittings, air-conditioning grilles,


etc. are payable separately only where special members and extra
hangers are required to support the fittings, grilles, etc. In all other
cases, they are deemed to be included in the rates for general
ceilings.

4.3 Rates for specialist’s suspended ceilings are to include for :-

i) Cutting of tiles or panels.

ii) Forming small perforation in tiles or panels.

iii) Suspension system including edge framings and hangers.

iv) Narrow widths and small quantities.

v) Trimming around isolated columns, unless special members


are required.
