Read the following passage about coffee and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the best answer to each of the following questions from 23 to 30.

Around the world, coffee is grown by about 25 million farmworkers on about 27 million acres of land.
That’s more than seven percent of Earth’s surface! Just in Brazil, the world’s largest coffee grower, almost 6.2
billion pounds of coffee are grown each year. In Việt Nam, coffee exports reached approximately 1.78 million
tonnes in 2022 alone. Every year, people drink more than 500 billion cups. Businesses in the United States

PAGE 3
spend about $5.5 billion to bring coffee into the country, and make more than $12 billion by selling it. Coffee
is big business.
Unfortunately, climate change could be a big threat to this business and the people who depend on it. To
grow good coffee, the weather must be just right. If it is too hot or too cold, or if there is too much or too
little rain, the plants might die or the coffee beans might be of poor quality. Climate change is making the
world hotter and changing where and how much rain falls. Many regions that have perfect weather for
growing coffee now will not be good places to grow coffee in the future. In Brazil, for example, more than
half of good coffee land will not be usable by the year 2050.
Even worse, an insect called the coffee berry borer beetle, which likes to eat coffee beans, also loves hotter
weather. This means that as the climate changes, there will be more of these insects living in more places and
more coffee plants will be attacked. In addition, diseases such as coffee rust (a disease that causes the tree to
lose its ability to produce berries/beans) become more common when the weather is hotter and wetter.
Coffee is the favorite drink of people all over the world. Unless humans work together to stop climate
change and protect coffee, it could become part of our history, not our future.

Read the following passage about powering and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
As we continue to face the impacts of climate change, having a green environment has become
increasingly important to the future of our society. To achieve this, the world is shifting towards green energy,
and two particular types of energy at the centre of this movement are solar power and wind power.
[I] Solar power is all about harnessing the energy of the sun by using solar panels to convert sunlight into
usable electricity. [II]. Moreover, solar panels are perfect for installation on a small scale, such as in private
homes, since they require very little maintenance and have a long lifespan. [III] However, the ability to

PAGE 4
generate solar power depends on the time of day and weather conditions. This means that solar panels are
often less useful if they are installed in places where sunny weather is not typical. [IV]
Wind power, on the other hand, involves converting the energy of the wind into electricity using large
turbines. Wind power doesn’t produce any greenhouse gases, but it is not ideal for private use since
turbines require consistent care. However, wind farms can be installed on a large scale and are able to
produce electricity continuously regardless of the time of day. This means that if there were more investments
in wind power, it could be a viable way to provide energy for major cities and even for whole regions.
Wind and solar power contribute significantly to a green environment by reducing our reliance on fossil
fuels, helping us cut down on pollution and slow climate change. Additionally, using renewable energy
sources helps promote spending on sustainable development by creating new career opportunities in the green
energy sector.
For now, the biggest challenge of adopting green energy is the costs associated with installation and
infrastructure, but the benefits unquestionably outweigh the downsides. If we want to stop the climate crisis
and create a better and more sustainable future, green energy sources will undoubtedly be the key.

the best answer to each of the following questions from 23 to 30.
Storms are powerful weather events that bring intense rain, strong winds, and sometimes thunder and
lightning. These storms can happen in various parts of the world and are often more frequent during certain
seasons, like summer or the rainy season in tropical areas. When a storm approaches, experts recommend
staying indoors due to the high risk of floods and flying debris caused by strong winds. Flooding is a

PAGE 9
common effect of storms, particularly in low-lying areas or places near rivers and coastlines, leading to
property damage and travel disruptions.
Thunder and lightning are also significant parts of many storms. Lightning, which can strike trees,
buildings, or power lines, poses a serious risk to people outdoors, while the sound of thunder alerts people to
the storm’s strength. Due to the dangers of lightning strikes, experts advise avoiding metal objects and
electrical devices until the storm has passed.
Meteorologists use weather forecasts to warn communities about approaching storms, allowing people
time to prepare. Officials encourage families to secure loose items outside, keep flashlights and emergency
supplies ready, and follow local updates. In areas where severe storms are more common, emergency kits with
basic supplies like water, food, and first aid materials can help people stay safe.
Storms remind us of the importance of preparation and awareness to minimize risk, highlighting the
need for reliable weather forecasts and community safety plans.

filters to their videos [III]. People of all ages enjoy making and watching TikTok videos, which can be funny,

One of the reasons TikTok is so popular is because of its algorithm, which shows users videos that

TikTok often become hits on other platforms too.
The app is also a space for education and advocacy. Many creators use TikTok to share knowledge
about various topics, such as science, history, cooking, and fitness. Others use the platform to raise
awareness about social issues and promote positive change.
In addition to individual creators, many brands and businesses use TikTok for marketing. They create
content to engage with their audience, often using popular trends and challenges to promote their products.
However, TikTok has faced some criticism and challenges. Concerns about privacy and data security
have led to scrutiny from governments. Despite these issues, TikTok still remains one of the most downloaded

Read the following passage about working and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 23 to 30.
Some people love working so much that it doesn’t feel like work. But most people are not so lucky. They
need money to live, so they need a job. However, they don’t love their work, and they feel unhappy. And
because they are unhappy, they may not work hard. Luckily, some people and companies are trying to
improve things.
Dan Price is the CEO of a company based in Seattle. In 2015, he raised the salaries of all of his workers to
$70,000 a year, much higher than the average income in the United States. To pay for this, he cut his own
salary to the same amount. Interestingly, according to a study by Princeton University in 2010 about salaries,
people who make around $75,000 each year are happier and feel more satisfaction than those who make
less or more money. Since Price made his decision, his workers have been happier and his company has been
more successful.
Money is one reason why some workers are unhappy with their jobs. Another reason is working too many
hours. Perpetual Guardian, a company based in New Zealand, wanted staff to have a better work-life balance.
The company came up with a plan. Its staff were paid for five days, but they only had to work four days each
week. Not surprisingly, workers were happier and more satisfied.
Many studies show that people who do things are happier than people who buy things. For example, going
on a road trip or learning to play the guitar is better than buying a car or guitar. The famous company Airbnb
wants its staff to have great experiences. Workers get $2,000 each year to stay at Airbnb properties anywhere
in the world. As a result, many people who work at Airbnb love their jobs.

Read the following passage about phobias and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 23 to 30.
A phobia is a stronger fear of something, even if that thing is not likely to cause harm. People with
specific phobias fear a particular thing, and the more they think about it, the more frightened they become. For
example, a person with claustrophobia is terrified of being in small spaces. The more confined the space is,
the more frightened they feel. Similarly, those with social phobias worry about the reaction of others in
certain situations, becoming increasingly anxious as the number of people increases.
Scientists believe there are several reasons why specific phobias develop. In some cases, they arise from
real danger. For instance, if a child has an allergy to bee stings, she might develop a phobia of bees. This fear
emerges because she understands the risk to her safety. On the other hand, traumatic past experiences can also
result in phobias. The more distressing the experience, the stronger the phobia may become. For example, a
man who has an illness after eating mushrooms could develop fungophobia, an extreme fear of fungi.
Children who hate injections might develop a phobia of sharp objects that could cause injury. This type of
phobia often stems from the association between pain and sharp objects, like needles. While these phobias are
specific, they can vary in intensity. In some cases, such fears are manageable, causing only mild discomfort,
while in others, they interfere with daily life.
Specific phobias, in general, are rarely serious. For example, a person with a snake phobia might have a
small accident running away from a cobra but may never actually encounter one. However, social phobias can
have a more significant impact. In severe cases, individuals with social phobias might avoid most social
situations and isolate themselves, which can negatively affect their quality of life.

Read the following passage about an experiment and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
Dr. Melissa Bateson, a psychologist from Newcastle University, secretly conducted an experiment to see if
she could change her colleagues’ behaviour when it came to paying for their hot drinks. [I] Dr. Bateson put a
large picture of some flowers on the wall behind the box for a few weeks and then replaced it with one of a
picture of a pair of human eyes.[II] At the end of the experiment, Dr. Bateson found that teachers paid almost
three times more for their drinks when the picture of the eyes was on the wall. [III] She concluded that we
are programmed to respond to eyes, even pictures of eyes, and believed that her posters could
help combat crime. [IV]
During the 1960s and ’70s, industrialised countries suffered an incredible crime wave, and violent crimes
such as muggings increased at an alarming rate. What is more, it was expected to get worse. Only it didn’t.
Instead, it got much, much better. In the 1990s, crime started to fall dramatically, and today it is down by
almost 50% across the industrialised world and continues to fall. Triumphant politicians will assert that their
policies have cut crime. Actually, regardless of the country’s policies, the trend does coincide with the use and
subsequent prohibition of tetraethyl lead in petrol, which has been known for years as a cause of aggressive
behaviour. Therefore, countries that still use leaded petrol are being urged to stop using it to help improve
health and crime prevention.
After the installation of blue-light street lamps in Buchanan Street, the main shopping centre of Glasgow
(Scotland), the local police felt that thieves were committing fewer crimes in Buchanan Street. Statistics
proved that the number of recorded crimes had fallen – especially petty crimes such as pickpocketing and bag
snatching. Some psychologists claim that blue is a calming colour and reduces people’s levels of stress and
aggression. Whatever the reason, it seems that blue lighting does deter crime and has created interest abroad.
Many neighbourhoods in Japan have adopted the change and seen crime fall at a similar rate as in Glasgow.

Six months after the UN officially recognized the human right to a healthy environment, a report by
UN Special Rapporteur David Boyd underscores the harsh reality that this right remains inaccessible to many,
particularly the most vulnerable populations worldwide. Boyd’s report identifies “sacrifice zones,” regions
where pollution from industrial activities has rendered the air, water, and soil toxic, exposing local
communities to severe health risks like cancer, lead poisoning, and respiratory diseases.
Globally, there are thousands of such zones. For instance, Bor, Serbia, ranks among Europe’s most
polluted cities due to its copper mining and smelting industries, leaving 80% of its metallurgical workers with
chronic illnesses. In La Oroya, Peru, nearly all children living near a lead smelter show dangerously high
blood lead levels. Similarly, in the oil-contaminated Niger Delta of Nigeria, life expectancy hovers around just
40 years. These regions reflect the dire costs of prioritizing industrial progress over environmental health.
Boyd’s findings emphasize the role of corporate practices in exacerbating these crises. [I] Major
polluters, including leading fossil fuel companies, continue profiting massively while contributing to pollution
and climate change. [II] During the energy crisis in 2022, six such corporations amassed $350 billion in
profits. [III] Simultaneously, lobbying and greenwashing tactics hinder the enactment of strict environmental
laws, enabling the persistence of these toxic zones. [IV]
Governments also bear responsibility for failing to counteract these influences. Corporate
lobbying and the absence of enforceable environmental regulations perpetuate these issues, as evidenced by
recent climate negotiations that yielded weak commitments. Boyd advocates for bold action, including legally
binding frameworks to hold corporations accountable, criminalizing greenwashing, and reducing corporate
influence in policymaking. Such measures are critical for turning the human right to a healthy environment
from principle to practice, safeguarding both people and the planet

Read the following passage about urbanisation and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.
URBANISATION: A GROWING PHENOMENON
Urbanisation is the process through which cities grow, and higher populations begin to inhabit urban
areas. This phenomenon has accelerated significantly over the past few decades due to various factors. One
of the primary drivers is the search for better employment opportunities. In rural areas, job prospects are often
limited to agriculture and small-scale industries, which might not provide sufficient income. Consequently,
people migrate to cities seeking better livelihoods and living standards.
Additionally, urban areas offer more advanced educational facilities and healthcare services compared to
rural regions. Many families move to cities to provide their children with higher-quality education and greater
future opportunities. Access to hospitals and specialized medical services also attracts people to urban
centers, especially in countries where rural healthcare is underdeveloped.
However, rapid urbanisation brings about several challenges. Overcrowding in cities can lead to inadequate
housing, strained infrastructure, and increased pollution. The expansion of urban areas often results in the loss
of green spaces and agricultural land, impacting food production and the environment. Governments and city
planners must address these issues to ensure sustainable urban growth.
Despite these challenges, urbanisation has several positive aspects. Cities are often cultural melting pots,
where diverse groups of people interact, leading to vibrant communities and innovation. The concentration of
resources and talents in urban areas can drive economic growth and technological advancements.

Read the following passage about the future of energy and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer
sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.
[I] As the world grapples with the finite nature of fossil fuel reserves and the detrimental impact of climate
change, the future of energy undeniably lies in renewable sources. [II] Scientists and engineers are making
substantial advancements in the development of technologies that more efficiently harness solar, wind, hydro,
and geothermal energy. [III] Although the transition to these renewable sources presents significant
challenges, it is also regarded as a pivotal step towards establishing a sustainable and resilient energy system.
[IV]
One of the most promising advancements in renewable energy is the enhancement of solar panel
efficiency. Progress in photovoltaic technology has led to the creation of panels that convert a higher
proportion of sunlight into electricity. Likewise, wind turbines are becoming more and more efficient. They
are capable of generating power even under low-wind conditions. These innovations are essential for making
renewable energy more feasible and accessible to a broader population.
However, the transition to renewable energy is fraught with obstacles. The intermittent nature of sources
like solar and wind necessitates reliable storage solutions to ensure a consistent power supply. Although
battery technology has seen significant improvements, further advancements are imperative to meet growing
demand. Moreover, new infrastructure for distributing renewable energy requires expansion and upgrading to
accommodate these new power sources.
The economic impact of transitioning to renewable energy is another critical consideration. While the
initial investment in renewable energy infrastructure can be substantial, the long-term benefits include
reduced energy costs and job creation in the green energy sector. Governments and private enterprises are
increasingly acknowledging the necessity of investing in renewable energy projects, which is crucial for
fostering innovation and diminishing reliance on fossil fuels.
Ultimately, the future of energy hinges on our capacity to innovate and adapt. By continuing to invest in

The Money Flow Index (MFI) is a financial tool that helps traders and investors analyze the movement
of money into and out of an asset. It is used to identify whether an asset is overbought or oversold, which
can signal potential price changes. The MFI provides a reading between 0 and 100, with values above 80
indicating an overbought condition and values below 20 suggesting the asset is oversold. These thresholds
help traders predict when the price of an asset might reverse its current trend. The MFI is particularly valuable
because it combines price data with trading volume, offering insights into both market trends and momentum.
One key feature of the MFI is its use of divergences to predict price movements. A divergence occurs
when the MFI moves in the opposite direction of an asset’s price. For example, if the MFI is increasing while
the price is flat or declining, it may indicate growing buying pressure and a potential price increase. Similarly,
if the MFI is falling while the price remains stable or rises, this could signal upcoming selling pressure. These
divergences are often early warnings of trend reversals, making the MFI a useful tool for identifying
opportunities or risks in the market.
The calculation of the MFI involves several steps. First, the typical price of an asset is calculated as the
average of its high, low, and close prices. This value is then multiplied by the trading volume to find the raw
money flow for each period. Next, positive and negative money flows over a 14-period timeframe are
summed and compared to form a money flow ratio. Finally, this ratio is scaled to create the MFI value. The
use of both price and volume data in the calculation makes the MFI a comprehensive measure of market
activity.
Despite its strengths, the MFI is not without limitations. It is best used in combination with other tools
and indicators to confirm market signals. For instance, traders often pair the MFI with trend analysis or other
oscillators like the Relative Strength Index (RSI) for a broader understanding of market conditions.
Additionally, the MFI may be less effective in markets with low trading volumes, as it relies heavily on
accurate volume data. Nonetheless, the MFI remains a popular tool among traders and analysts for its ability
to provide actionable insights into market trends and momentum.

PLASTITAR: A NEW ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGE
Plastitar, a newly identified form of pollution, has been discovered on beaches in the Canary Islands. This
harmful substance is a combination of tar from oil spills and tiny plastic fragments. It appears as sticky black
patches on coastal rocks, creating a significant challenge for cleanup efforts. Unlike typical waste, plastitar
forms a tough layer that resists removal, making it a persistent environmental threat.
This pollution has severe effects on marine life. The tar contains toxic chemicals that can poison
organisms, while the microplastics can be mistakenly consumed by marine animals. This toxic mix harms
ecosystems and poses risks to human health through the food chain. Researchers worry that plastitar will spread
to other coastal areas, especially those already burdened by oil and plastic pollution. Its potential to infiltrate
distant environments highlights the urgency of addressing this issue.
Efforts to tackle plastitar focus on prevention and innovation [I]. Governments and organizations are
developing biodegradable materials to replace traditional plastics [II]. Such alternatives can reduce the amount
of plastic waste entering oceans [III]. Education campaigns also play a key role, helping people understand the
importance of recycling and reducing single-use plastics [IV]. Meanwhile, local cleanup initiatives aim to
mitigate damage in affected areas.
The rise of plastitar underscores the need for global action. It demonstrates how human activities
contribute to complex pollution problems that harm our planet. Addressing these issues requires collaboration,
innovation, and personal responsibility. Simple changes, such as supporting eco-friendly products and
reducing plastic use, can make a significant difference in protecting marine ecosystems and ensuring a
healthier future.

Read the following passage about Cải Lương and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.
Cải Lương, a form of traditional Vietnamese theatre, emerged around the 1910s and gained popularity
among the communities in the south, especially in the Mekong Delta region. In the early years, Cải Lương
performances were held in makeshift theatres or open-air spaces, and the plays were often performed by
itinerant troupes. Just like a Western circus, they travelled together from place to place, with their families.
The children grew up under the influence of parents, aunts, and uncles and became actors and actresses
when they were kids.
Cải Lương uses a combination of music, singing, acting, and dance to depict a wide range of themes and
stories. These include historical events, folklore, legends, and contemporary social issues. The performances
are characterised by vibrant costumes, bold makeup, and expressive gestures. With its diverse repertoire,
Cải Lương offers a reflection on Vietnamese culture, history, values, and societal concerns.
The distinctive music in Cải Lương is created by the combination of a variety of instruments. They include
the đàn tranh, a 16-stringed zither with movable bridges, the đàn nguyệt, a two-stringed moon-shaped lute,
the đàn cò, a two-stringed fiddle, and a bamboo flute. These instruments produce a melodic and unique
sound that complements the storytelling and singing in Cải Lương.
Cải Lương owes its development to numerous talented individuals who have contributed their skills and
creativity over the years. Prominent figures like Bảy Nam, Phùng Há, and Út Trà Ôn, together with others,
played crucial roles in shaping and popularising Cải Lương. Through their dedication and artistry, they
elevated Cải Lương to become a cherished cultural tradition in Vietnam. Their contributions continue to
inspire generations of performers and ensure the preservation of this rich theatrical heritage.
At present, Cải Lương faces concerns about its future due to the declining interest among younger
generations and the influence of modern entertainment. However, efforts to raise awareness, engage new
audiences, and adapt to new tastes may safeguard the sustainability of Cải Lương in the years to come.

Read the following passage about The Longitude Prize and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer
sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions
On a stormy night in 1707, four ships struck rocks off the south coast of England and sank. [I] One
thousand, four hundred sailors were drowned. [II] The ships had crashed because they had no way of
knowing how far they had travelled in a particular direction; they could not calculate their longitude, which
required accurate time measurement. [III] In such difficult circumstances, they believed that the best
response to the disaster was a competition: the Longitude Prize. [IV]
The Longitude Prize was no ordinary competition. To win it, someone had to find a way of calculating how
far a ship had travelled east or west from its point of departure. Geniuses such as Sir Isaac Newton had failed
to find a solution, so to ensure the interest of Britain’s greatest scientific minds, the government offered a
prize of £20,000 — the equivalent of £2.6 million in today’s money. But to everyone’s surprise, it wasn’t a
famous academic who solved the problem, but an unknown carpenter.
When John Harrison wasn’t working with wood, he was making clocks. An accurate clock would allow
sailors to calculate their position, but at the time it was thought impossible to create a mechanical clock that
could work on a ship. The movement of the sea and the changes in temperature destroyed the delicate
parts. However, after three frustrated attempts, Harrison’s fourth sea clock, H4, finally triumphed. Its
mechanics were so good that the H4 worked better than most clocks on land.
The Longitude Prize and Harrison’s success generated a lot of interest in the 18th century, but it was soon
forgotten. However, in 2013, the British government created a new Longitude Prize, offering £10 million to
the person who could solve a great challenge to humanity. An enthralled public then took part in a TV
programme where viewers chose one challenge from a list of six for scientists to focus on. The question now
is, will someone be able to solve it just as well as Harrison solved the challenge presented to him?

Read the following passage about Stephen Krashen and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet
to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.
Stephen Krashen is an American linguist and educator credited with the development of the Language
Acquisition Theory. He was born in 1941 and dedicated all his life to studying the process of L2 acquisition.
In fact, his hypothesis has greatly influenced thinking on language teaching, especially in ESL classes.
Furthermore, Krashen places more emphasis on the natural approach in learning a language without much
reliance on rigid grammar rules; hence, being more practical and friendly to learners.
Krashen has integrated five major hypotheses in his theory. Among them, the Acquisition-Learning
Hypothesis maintains that people can only naturally acquire a language if they are exposed to it and it also
states that children learned their first language. Learning, on the other hand, is a conscious process of
studying the rules, though it is not effective as acquisition. The second is the Input Hypothesis, defined as
an instance wherein the learner is exposed to an input somewhat beyond his or her current level of language
knowledge, an i+1 level of understanding, to internalize and understand it better.
The third is the Monitor Hypothesis, which claims that conscious learning, such as grammar rules, is only
useful in mistake correction rather than in attaining natural fluency. The Affective Filter Hypothesis pinpoints
the learner's emotional system where "the more stressed, unmotivated, and anxious the students are, the less
likely they will be to pick up language." Lastly, the Natural Order Hypothesis describes that people learn
language structures in a predictable order independent of how they have been taught.
Krashen's ideas have really transformed the approach to language learning for many teachers. The theory
allows a student to feel at ease in an environment with mainly natural communication and little pressure. Even
nowadays, his works remain a cornerstone in modern language teaching and a source of inspiration for
educators all over the world.

Read the following passage about Nyepi and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate
the best answer to each of the following questions
[I] Nestling within dynamic Balinese culture comes one of the world's most intriguing and peculiar
events: Nyepi. The Balinese New Year, better known as Nyepi, doesn't involve parties or fireworks. [II] This
follows with a deep silent day of self-meditation and spiritual cleansing [III]. It is a holy day, derived from
the Saka Calendar, when the predominantly Hindu population of this island gets an opportunity to reunite with
their inner self and their gods. [IV]
The preparation for Nyepi starts days in advance, with the execution of various colored and meaningful
rituals. The most interesting include an Ogoh-Ogoh parade where huge and artistic statutes, which represent
evil spirits, are taken along the streets. Made from bamboo and paper, these statues constitute both kinds of
artistic work and forms of exorcising the island from all negative feelings. The Ogoh-Ogoh figures are ritually
burned in a spectacular display as the sun is setting, a ritual that symbolizes destruction to evil spirits and
spiritual rejuvenation.
But on Nyepi Day itself, the island is supposed to be in full stillness-no flights, no traffic, no lights, and no
noise. Even tourists are encouraged to stay indoors and minimize activities by this convention. The streets are
empty; it is a case whereby the island stood still, holding its breath. This silence amongst the Balinese people
is an inside thing, deeply. They go into meditation, fasting, and reflection on life for a balance between good
and evil in themselves. The silence is said to deceive the evil spirits that the island is indeed uninhabited,
thus offering protection for the forthcoming year.
More than a religious holiday, Nyepi is deeply enriching in culture and spirituality, underlining the values
of harmony and introspection particular to the Balinese. For any visitor, the experience of Nyepi is at once an
exercise in humility and a source of inspiration. A stepping back from the din of modern life into the emotive
power of silence, leaving with great respect for timeless traditions and the never-failing devotion of the people
to beliefs.

Russia is on track to introduce its first cancer vaccine by early 2025, marking a significant milestone in
medical innovation. This vaccine is developed by a Russian team in collaboration with major research
institutions, including the Moscow State University and the Cancer Research Institute. It uses cutting-edge
mRNA technology, which has already proven effective in COVID-19 vaccines, to target specific tumor cells
and stimulate the body’s immune response to fight cancer more effectively.
The vaccine is currently undergoing the final stages of clinical trials. These trials are designed to
evaluate its safety and efficacy in treating certain types of cancers, particularly those related to lung and liver,
which are among the most common globally. Preliminary results suggest that this vaccine could significantly
improve survival rates and reduce recurrence risks for cancer patients, bringing hope to millions worldwide.
However, accessibility and affordability remain critical concerns. Experts highlight the potential
challenge of high production costs, which may limit access to this life-saving innovation in lower-income
regions. To address this, Russia is exploring partnerships with global health organizations and pharmaceutical
companies to scale production and distribution. This effort aims to make the vaccine available to a broader
population and integrate it into public health systems.
The introduction of this vaccine aligns with the growing global momentum in cancer prevention
and treatment. Similar initiatives, such as trials conducted by BioNTech in the UK, underline the global
effort to combat cancer with advanced technologies. If successful, Russia’s vaccine could complement these
efforts, marking a new era in the fight against one of the world’s leading causes of death.

Read the following passage about powering and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 31 to 40.
Urbanization, the process of people moving from rural areas to cities, is a significant aspect of global
development. This migration is often motivated by the pursuit of better employment opportunities, education,
healthcare, and overall living conditions available in urban areas. However, the relationship between rural and
urban areas, known as rural-urban linkages, is equally important.
Rural-urban linkages are the connections and interactions between rural and urban areas. These linkages
involve the flow of people, goods, services, information, and capital between these regions. For instance, rural
areas supply cities with essential resources like food, water, and raw materials, while urban areas provide rural
communities with markets, technology, and services. Effective linkages can stimulate economic growth, reduce
poverty, and improve living standards in both rural and urban areas.
The benefits of strong rural-urban linkages are manifold [I]. They can help diversify economies, create
jobs, and enhance access to services such as education and healthcare[II]. Furthermore, they can promote
sustainable development by balancing growth and reducing inequalities between rural and urban regions. [III]
Improved infrastructure, such as transportation and communication networks, plays a critical role in
strengthening these linkages, enabling easier and more efficient exchanges. [IV]
However, there are challenges to fostering effective rural-urban linkages. In many developing countries,
inadequate infrastructure, limited access to technology, and poor policy coordination hinder these connections.
Addressing these challenges requires comprehensive strategies that include investments in infrastructure,
supportive policies, and inclusive planning. For example, enhancing transportation networks can facilitate
better access to markets for rural producers, while improving digital connectivity can bridge information
gaps.
In conclusion, understanding and enhancing rural-urban linkages is crucial for inclusive and sustainable
development. By promoting stronger connections between rural and urban areas, we can create more resilient,
prosperous, and balanced communities, ultimately contributing to overall national development and improved
quality of life for all.

Read the following passage about Stephen Krashen and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet
to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.
Happiness is a universal goal, yet its ingredients differ across societies and cultures. For some, safety
and security are paramount, as demonstrated by Singapore. Known for its strict laws and highly regulated
environment, Singapore provides a clean, orderly, and safe place for its citizens. The government ensures
access to basic necessities such as housing and healthcare, significantly reducing poverty and promoting
equality. While personal freedoms may be limited, many Singaporeans find satisfaction in the stability and
quality of life their country offers, showing that happiness can stem from collective security.
In contrast, Mexico highlights the importance of social connections in achieving happiness. Despite
challenges like poverty and limited access to essential resources, Mexicans often prioritize relationships with
family, friends, and neighbors. Simple acts like sharing meals or gathering in the community foster a sense of
belonging and emotional well-being. Psychologists have long noted that feeling part of a larger social group
can be a powerful source of happiness, even when material wealth is scarce. For them, the joy derived from
relationships often outweighs material concerns.
The role of money in happiness, however, is often debated. In Mexico, many individuals live in similar
financial conditions, reducing the pressure of economic competition. When neighbors lack expensive
possessions, individuals are less likely to feel dissatisfied with their own circumstances. This suggests that
relative wealth and equality may have a stronger influence on happiness than absolute income.
Ultimately, there is no universal recipe for happiness. Factors like security, freedom, social bonds, and
financial equality all play a role, but their importance varies depending on individual and cultural values.
Happiness, therefore, remains a deeply personal and multifaceted pursuit, shaped by our unique perspectives
and circumstances.

the best answer to each of the following questions
[I] William Kamkwamba’s story is a remarkable example of how creativity and determination can
overcome even the toughest challenges. [II] Born in Malawi, a country plagued by poverty and lacking
access to basic necessities like electricity and running water, William grew up facing harsh realities.[III]
Unable to afford school fees, William had to leave school, but he never gave up on his thirst for learning and
bettering his life. [IV]
Determined to continue his education, William began visiting a local library. There, he discovered a book
titled Using Energy, which included instructions on building a windmill. Although he didn’t understand much
of the English text, the diagrams inspired him. Convinced that he could build a windmill to help his family,
William collected materials from junkyards, such as bicycle parts, tree branches, and copper wire. Despite
ridicule from his village, including his own mother, William stayed confident. He believed if someone else
could build it, so could he.
After many attempts, William succeeded. His first windmill powered just one lightbulb, but over time, he
improved its design to generate electricity for several lights and a radio. Encouraged by its success, he built a
second windmill to pump water from underground, transforming his family’s life. His innovation also helped
his community, as people began visiting him to charge their cell phones and learn how to build windmills.
William later constructed windmills for schools and taught others to continue the work.
William’s accomplishments gained international recognition. He returned to school, helped establish
malaria prevention programs, and wrote a memoir, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. In 2019, it was adapted
into a film that inspired millions. Today, William empowers young people in Malawi, sharing a powerful
message: "Trust yourself and believe. Whatever happens, don’t give up."

Multimedia is a field that integrates various forms of content such as audio, images, video, text, and
graphics to create comprehensive communication tools. Unlike graphic design, which focuses on visual
content alone, it encompasses a wider range of creative methods, including interactive web design, video
production, and game design. This integration of different media forms enables the creation of dynamic and
engaging user experiences.
A career in multimedia requires proficiency in various software tools and web development
languages. Software like Adobe Premiere, Audition, and Flash are essential for video and audio production,
while knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is crucial for web design and development. These technical
skills allow multimedia professionals to create interactive and visually appealing content across different
platforms.
In addition to technical skills, a successful multimedia professional needs a strong aesthetic sense and
sensitivity to artistic expression. These attributes help in creating content that is not only functional but also
visually appealing and engaging. Understanding the target audience and the purpose of the content is crucial
in multimedia design, as it influences the choice of media and the way it is integrated.
The demand for multimedia professionals is growing as more industries recognize the
importance of engaging and interactive content. From advertising to education, multimedia plays a crucial
role in communicating messages effectively. This makes multimedia a promising field with diverse career
opportunities for those with the right skills and creativity.

A meme is a cultural element that spreads rapidly among people, primarily through the internet. It
often takes the form of an image, video, or piece of text that conveys a humorous or satirical message. Memes
are a modern form of folk art, evolving quickly and often reflecting current events or popular culture.
The term "meme" was introduced by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book "The Selfish Gene." Dawkins
described a meme as an idea or behavior that spreads within a society, akin to the way genes propagate. This
concept has become particularly relevant in the digital age, where the internet allows for rapid sharing and
adaptation of content.
Memes play a significant role in digital communication. They serve as a means of social
commentary, often providing a quick and relatable way to express opinions or highlight absurdities.
Memes can be created by anyone, and their viral nature means they can reach a wide audience in a short
amount of time.
[I] The creation and spread of memes are facilitated by social media platforms such as Twitter,
Instagram, and TikTok. [II] These platforms allow users to share content easily, which contributes to the rapid
dissemination and evolution of memes. [III] As a result, memes can quickly gain traction across different
audiences and regions, fostering a global exchange of ideas. [IV] Consequently, a single meme can
continuously evolve, reflecting changing trends and cultural references.
Memes are more than just humorous distractions; they are a powerful form of communication that
reflects the collective consciousness of society. They can bring people together through shared experiences
and provide insight into cultural and social dynamics. As such, understanding memes offers a glimpse into the
values, concerns, and creativity of the digital age.

Read the following passage about career options and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.
Exploring career options is an important step on the road to adulthood. As you enter high school, you
will be faced with choices in which classes you take. The classes you take in high school affect the choices you
have and the careers you can consider. Having an idea of where you want to be in the next five to ten years will
get you started in the right direction.
Comparing classes you enjoy with those you don't can be a good guide to exploring career paths. What
may be an obvious example is someone who excels in math and science looking at a career in those fields. What
may not be so obvious is to explore the subjects within a class that someone thrives on while not
particularly enjoying the class as a whole. For example, you may be bored by the dates or political aspects of
history, but completely intrigued by the personalities behind those events, leading to careers ranging anywhere
from psychology to journalism.
Considering what you want to do and what you're prepared to do is a major factor in excluding
inappropriate career choices. Someone with stage-fright, for example, will have some challenges to explore
before seriously going on to become an actress or musician.
Once you begin to favour a career path, volunteering and other extracurricular activities can give you a
taste for that career while giving you valuable hands-on experience. For example, working at a pet store or
volunteering at a local animal shelter gives you first-hand experience of working with animals. Researching
careers online and talking to people who work in that field can also help you make the transition toward
adulthood. School guidance teachers are also a valuable resource for exploring careers, are career aptitude tests
offered by high schools and colleges.

Read the following passage about personality and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to
indicate the best answer to each of the following questions
[I] The age-old question of whether personality is shaped by nature or nurture has intrigued scientists
and philosophers alike. [II] Ancient Greek thinkers, such as Hippocrates, proposed that personality was
influenced by bodily fluids or “humors.” [III] Though influential for centuries, this theory was eventually
dismissed as science advanced, leading to new perspectives on what shapes human personality. [IV]
In the 19th century, phrenology emerged, claiming that the shape of a person’s skull reflected their
personality traits and even criminal tendencies. While this pseudoscience was later debunked, it encouraged
further exploration into biological influences. By the 20th century, research into genetics provided compelling
evidence of nature’s role. Thousands of genes are now known to influence traits like extroversion,
agreeableness, and emotional stability. Even a simple trait like skin color involves over 100 genes,
highlighting the complexity of biological contributions to personality and how they collectively impact who
we are.
Nurture plays an equally significant role. Psychologist B.F. Skinner argued that behavior is shaped
entirely by environment and experiences, famously stating, “Give me a child, and I’ll shape him into
anything.” The Stanford Prison Experiment further demonstrated how dramatically environment can alter
behavior, with participants adopting aggressive or submissive roles based purely on their assigned positions.
Such cases show how life experiences and social surroundings profoundly impact personality development,
making it clear that nurture cannot be ignored.
Studies on identical twins provide a fascinating intersection of these perspectives. Twins raised apart
often display similar personality traits, reinforcing the influence of genetics. However, differences shaped by
unique life experiences illustrate the undeniable role of nurture. This interplay between nature and nurture
suggests that personality results from their combined influence rather than one working independently.
Modern science suggests that personality is shaped by a complex interplay between nature and
nurture. While genes provide the foundation, the environment molds and refines them over time.
Understanding this intricate balance not only helps us appreciate the diversity of human personality but also
deepens our knowledge of what makes us truly unique.
