CLASS- VI CAMBRIDGE

Name : Roll No.

I.Read the given passage and answer the questions that follow-
Mount Everest – The Tallest Mountain on Earth
Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,848 meters above sea
level. It is part of the Himalayan mountain range and lies on the border between Nepal and
Tibet. Every year, hundreds of climbers from all over the world attempt to reach its summit,
but the journey is extremely difficult and dangerous.
The first successful ascent of Mount Everest was made by Sir Edmund Hillary from New
Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa climber from Nepal, on May 29, 1953. Since then,
thousands of climbers have followed in their footsteps, but not all of them succeed. The
extreme weather, lack of oxygen at high altitudes, and the risk of avalanches make climbing
Everest a great challenge.
Climbers need months of training and preparation before attempting the climb. They must
carry special equipment, including oxygen tanks, warm clothing, and food supplies. Even
with all these precautions, climbing Everest remains a dangerous task. However, the
breathtaking view from the summit and the sense of achievement make it a dream for many
adventurers.
