Here are some simple ways to express your opinion in English:

I think that... Example: I think that swimming is fun.


I believe that... Example: I believe that working out is healthy.
In my opinion,... Example: In my opinion, chemistry is difficult.

A. Underline the adjective in each statement that is closest to your opinion. Then, write
your opinion using one of the expressions above.

Example: Reading is fun / boring 🡪 In my opinion, reading is fun.

1. Salad is healthy / unhealthy.

I believe that the salad is healty

2. Mathematics is easy / difficult.

I think that mathematics is difficlut

3. Camping is relaxing / stressful.

In my opinion, camping is relaxing.

4. Travelling is expensive / cheap.

I think that travelling is expensive.

5. History is interesting / boring.

In my opinion, history is interesting.

6. My cooking is good / bad.

I believe that my cooking is bad.

7. Cheese is delicious / disgusting.

In my opinion, cheese is delicious.

8. Jeans are comfortable / uncomfortable.

I think that jeans are comfortable.

9. Skiing is safe / dangerous.

In my opinion, skiing is dangerous.

10. Winter is wonderful / horrible.

I believe that winter is wonderful.


We can also give an opinion by making the expressions negative to show disagreement.

Examples: A: I think that reading is boring. A: I believe that learning English is easy.
B: I don't think reading is boring. B: In my opinion, learning English isn't easy.

B. Write four things you disagree with from Exercise A.

C. What is your opinion? Do you agree or disagree with the following statements? Write

YOUR TASK

Write an opinion essay of 100 words about a city or town. You have an example in your Student’s
Book page 23 and in your Workbook page 15. Here you have a checklist with all the required
elements:

I include: name of the city/town, general information, opinion, examples


I take into account the elements worked in the Starter Unit and Unit 1 as well as
the vocabulary.
I use the verb to be/have got, present simple and continuous tenses and there
is/are properly.
I use adverbs of frequency and time expressions in the correct position.
I have got 4 paragraphs introduced with the correct phrases.
I express my opinion and other viewpoints with the correct phrases.
I use the prepositions for, at, from, by and to properly.
My presentation is neat, my handwriting is good, there are margins and space
between line, I use a pen and I have got 100 words or more.
