Preliminary Examination – “ SET: A ”


Mathematics
Std: X Marks: 80
Date: 11.01.21 Time: 2 hr 30 min
Answer to this Paper must be written on the paper provided separately.
You will not be allowed to write during the first 15 minutes.
This time is to be spent in reading the question paper.
The time given at the head of this Paper is the time allowed for writing the answers.
Attempt all questions from Section A and any four questions from Section B.
All working, including rough work, must be clearly shown and must be done on the same
sheet as the rest of the answer.
Omission of essential working will result in loss of marks.
The intended marks for questions for parts of questions are given in brackets [ ].

Section A (40 Marks)

Question 1:

a) Sonia had recurring deposit account in a bank and deposited ₹ 600 per month for 2½
years. If the rate of interest was 10% p.a. find the maturity value of this account. [3]

Question 2:

a) Two different dice are thrown simultaneously. What is the probability that sum of
the two numbers appearing on the top of dice is
(i) 8 (ii) 10 (iii) at least 10 ? [3]

b) In the adjoining figure PAB is a secant and PT a tangent
to the circle with centre O
If ∠ATP = 40°, PA = 9 cm and
AB = 7cm.
Find (i) ∠ATP (ii) length of PT [3]

c) Solve the following inequation, write the solution set and represent it on the number
line :

a) If 𝑏 is the means proportion between 𝑎 and 𝑐, show that

b) A (-1, 3), B (4, 2) and C (3, -2) are the vertices of a triangle

c) In ∆ABC and ∆EDC , AB ∥ ED , BD = 3 BC and
AB = 12.3 cm. Prove that
(i) ∆ABC ~ ∆EDC
(ii) Find DE
(iii) Find the area of ∆EDC ∶ area of ∆ABC [4]

Question 4:

a) The ratio of the 11th term to the 18th term of an A.P. is 2:3. Find the ratio of the 5th
term to the 21st term, and also the ratio of the sum of the five terms to the sum of
first 21 terms. [3]

c) At present, Asha’s age (in years) is 2 more than the square of her daughter Nisha’s
age. When Nisha grows to her mother’s present age, Asha’s age would be one year
less than 10 times the present age of Nisha. Find the present ages of both Asha and
Nisha. [4]

Question 5:

a) Which term of the A.P. 121, 117, 113, …… is the first negative term ? [3]

b) Prove the identity : 𝑠𝑖𝑛 6 𝜃 + 𝑐𝑜𝑠 6 𝜃 + 3𝑠𝑖𝑛2 𝜃 𝑐𝑜𝑠 2 𝜃 = 1. [3]

Question 6:

a) The diagram (given alongside) shows a model of a rocket


consisting of a cylinder surmounted by a cone at one end. The
dimensions of the model are : common radius 3 cm, height of
cone = 4cm and total height = 14 cm.
Find: The total surface area of the rocket is 𝜋 𝑚2 . [3]

b) If 𝑥 + 𝑎 is a common factor of expressions

(Take 1cm = 1 unit on both the axes).
(i) Plot A (4, 4), B (4,-6) and C (8, 0), the vertices of a triangle ABC.
(ii) Reflect ABC on the y-axis and name it as A’B’C’.
(iii) Write the coordinates of the image A’, B’, and C’.
(iv) Give a geometrical name for the figure AA’ C’ B’ BC. [4]

Question 7:

a) If P (9a -2, -b) divides the line segment joining A(3a+1, -3) and B ( 8a, 5) in the ratio
3:1, find the values of a and b. [3]

b) Using componendo and dividendo, find the values 𝑥, given


√3𝑥+4 + √3𝑥−5
= 9. [3]
√3𝑥+4− √3𝑥−5

c) In the adjoining figure, PT touches the circle whose centre


is O at R. Diameter SQ when produced meets PT at P. If
∠SPR = 𝑥° and ∠ QRP = 𝑦°, show that:
𝑥° + 2𝑦° = 90° [4]

Question 8:

a) In the adjoining figure, AB is a diameter of the circle with


centre O. If ∠ADC = 130° and chord BC = chord BE, find
∠CBE. [3]

b) Sixteen cards are labelled as 𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐, … . . , 𝑚, 𝑛, 𝑜, 𝑝. They are put in a box and


shuffled. A boy is asked to draw a card from the box. What is the probability
that the card drawn is:
(i) a vowel (ii) a consonant
(iii) none of the letters of the word median. [3]

c) Given that(𝑥 + 1) and (𝑥 − 2) are factors of 𝑥 3 + 𝑎𝑥 2 − 𝑏𝑥 − 6, find the values


of 𝑎 and 𝑏. With these values of 𝑎 and 𝑏, factorize the given expression
completely. [4]

Question 9:

a) In the adjoining figure, DE ∥ BC and AD : DB = 5:4. Find :


(i) DE : BC
(ii) DO : DC
(iii) area of ∆ DOE : area of ∆ DCE.
(iv) area of ∆ DOE : area of ∆ COB. [4]

b) The weight of 50 workers is given below :

Draw an ogive of the given distribution using a graph sheet.


Take 1 cm = 10 kg on one axis and 1 cm = 5 workers along the other axis.

(iv) If the weighing 95 kg and above is considered overweight, find the number of
workers who are overweight. [6]

Question 10:

a) In the adjoining figure, PQ is a tangent to the circle at A. AB


and AD are bisectors of ∠CAQ and ∠ PAC respectively. If
∠BAQ = 30° , prove that :
(i) BD is a diameter of the circle
(ii) ABC is an isosceles triangle. [3]

b) A conical tent is to accommodate 77 persons. Each person must have 16𝑚3 of air
to breathe. Given the radius of the tent as 7 m, find the height of the tent and
also its curved surface area. [3]

c) For the following frequency distribution, draw a histogram. Hence, calculate the
mode [4]

Question 11:

a) The denominator of a fraction is one more than twice the numerator. If the sum of

fraction and its reciprocal is 2 21, find the fraction. [3]

b) A straight line passes through the points P (-1, 4) and Q (5, -2). It intersects the
coordinate axes at points A and B. M is the mid-point of the segment AB. Find
(i) the equation of the line (ii) the coordinates of A and B
(iii) the coordinates of M. [3]

c) Mr. Bedi visit the market and buys the following articles
Medicines costing ₹ 950, GST @ 5%
A pair of shoes costing ₹ 3000, GST @ 18%
A Laptop bag costing ₹1000 with a discount of 30%, GST @ 18%
(i) Calculate the total amount of GST paid.
(ii) The total bill amount including GST paid by Mr. Bedi. [4]
