PEACE STUDIES AND CONFLICT RESOLUTIONS

INTRODUCTION

Peace study and conflict resolution is concerned with how violence and conflict can
be viewed and addressed every problem without the presence of violence. Peace studies is a
social science field that identifies and analyzes violent and nonviolent behaviors with a view
towards understanding those processes which lead to a more desirable human condition

National government and peacemakers are all working together to create an effective
peace community. As defined, Peace studies is an interdisciplinary field of inquiry driven by
the desire to achieve long-term peace at all levels of society through policy-relevant research
and practice on a wide range of pressing matters. It includes: concepts and processes that
demand justice, promote healing, and create more equitable societies; the root causes of
violence in all its forms, including physical, structural, cultural, and environmental violence;
and strategies to prevent, end, and transform violence. This area of study focuses and
includes theoretical and practical discussions of conflict management, peace building, and the
root causes of war. Peace studies is the foundation of a nonviolent nation.

Conflict is an inevitable fact of life. It is borne out of differences and may arise in any
situations where people are required to interact with one another. It occurs when people’s
interests or different point of views interact within a shared environment. Conflict resolution
can be defined as the informal or formal process that two or more parties use to find a
peaceful solution to their dispute. Conflict resolution is the process by which two or more
parties reach a peaceful resolution to a dispute. Conflict resolution is more than just a single
technique for understanding the difference between mediation and arbitration. Conflict
resolution is the process of ending a dispute and reaching an agreement that satisfies all
parties involved.
Peace study and conflict resolution were both important in building a peaceful nation.
This area is study is primarily concerned with how violence and conflict can be viewed and
addressed through the intersections of democracy, human rights, gender, poverty, and
governance. It includes theoretical and practical discussions of conflict management, peace
building, and, importantly, the root causes of conflict and war. Peace and conflict resolution
may also be interested in economic development. Because it’s multifaceted problem, the
study of peace and conflict takes an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses theories
from psychology and philosophy, social sciences, political sciences, international relations,
international laws, economics, intelligence analysis, history and other academic fields.

DISCUSSION

What is Peace Study?

It is an interdisciplinary activity that includes research, reflection, and dialogue

concerning the causes of conflict, disharmony, misunderstanding, violence, and war. It is the
simultaneous study of the principles of harmony, communication, interpersonal relationships,
organization, and wisdom necessary to establish peace, resolve conflicts, and promote open,
communicative, and positive relationships at all levels among human beings.

Peace studies deepens critical thinking and provides a useful framework for analyzing
and understanding current events, global issues, and policy decisions. It gives students an
additional perspective that sets them apart within the next generation of global leaders. It
helps the government peacefully solves its problem using critical thinking through practical
and theoretical discussions. It focuses on the root causes of every issue so that it can be
treated right through identifying its background data.

Strategies for Achieving Peace

Peacekeeping generally involves police or military action and strives to achieve peace
through strength and force.

Peacemaking involves communication skills like conflict resolution and mediation

strategies for interacting non-violently with others. Both of these categories are reactive
approaches that kick in after a violent incident has occurred.

Peacebuilding, on the other hand, is a more proactive approach that uses peace
education as a means of creating a more stable and peaceful culture, thereby preventing
violent incidents from occurring. Peace education is critical to creating a culture that reduces
the need for peacemaking and peacekeeping by developing a comprehensive program that
teaches people how to interact with others and avoid unnecessary aggression. Let's look at the
objectives typically found in peace education.

What is Conflict Resolution?

Conflict resolution is the process that two or more parties use to find a cordial
solution to a problem. It is a mechanism where conflicted parties come together and sort out
their incompatibilities and conflicts by peaceful means. It has been accepted by all stalwarts,
academicians, members of civil society, and prominent personalities around the world that
war is the last option in politics, which can only be interpreted as a last resort. As we know,
across the globe, countries are facing a number of conflicts: social, economic, political,
ethnic, and other types of conflicts are prevalent and need a solution before people can live a
peaceful life without fear or danger.

Conflicts are natural in both personal and professional relationships, and you
shouldn’t try to find a way to avoid conflicts. It must be faced to be resolved. The practice of
conflict resolution involves a number of different methods such as negotiation, mediation and
arbitration. Through conflict resolution issues will get resolved much faster. Rather than
dwelling on an issue for months or even years. Conflict resolution brings people together to
figure out a solution to a problem rather than pulling them apart. The goal of conflict
resolution is not to decide which person is right or wrong; the goal is to reach a solution that
everyone can live with. Looking first for needs, rather than solutions, is a powerful tool for
generating win/win options.

Relationship of Peace study and Conflict Resolution

Peace studies utilizes a wide range of disciplines to understand the removal of

violence through conflict transformation, cooperation, and harmony. These disciplines
include psychology, sociology and anthropology, political science, economics, international
relations, international law, and history. This raises the issue of the complementarity,
coexistence, and combination of different knowledge systems. Indeed, all of the human and
social sciences are products of the post-Westphalian state system, and as such, they reify the
state and its internal and international systems, focusing on them as the primary source of
political conflict. However, conflicts can arise as a result of other distinctions such as gender,
generation, race, class, and so on. To contribute to peace building and conflict resolution, the
social sciences must be globalized, developing theories that address conflicts at the levels of
interpersonal interaction (micro), within countries (meso), between nations (macro), and
between whole regions or civilizations (mega). Psychiatry and the “psy” disciplines can
contribute to peace building and conflict resolution through understanding the interactions
between processes at each of these levels and the mental health or illness of individuals.

CONCLUSION

Through conflict, we have the opportunity to better define our country and allow us to
learn from that issues. Peace study and conflict resolutions is an important part of human
beings and as a part of the growing society. Resolving all of the conflict that we encounter
does not mean we are avoiding it instead it allows to grow and learn. Peace Education is the
main pillar for preventing armed conflicts and violence, saving lives and freeing unlimited
resources to meet the needs of societies. In resolving conflict, good conflict resolution skills
are needed and used to facilitate discussion, increase understanding and control our emotional
responses.

In conclusion, through establishing an effective peace community, we can achieve

better results on a variety of important factors, including higher per capita growth, improved
environmental performance, fewer civil resistance movements or violent political shocks, and
improved infrastructure to withstand natural disasters. We can also prevent armed conflict
and violence, saving lives and making limited resources available for social needs.
