Title: The Siege of Barad-dûr
Introduction: The Dark Tower may have fallen, but the land of Mordor remains a
fractured realm of strife. In the wake of Sauron’s defeat, his scattered servants have
rallied around a new power—Zaruth, the Ashen Heir, a sorcerer who seeks to rebuild
the Dark Lord’s dominion. His forces have taken control of the ruined Barad-dûr, and
black banners once more rise over the cursed fortress. If left unchecked, he may awaken
horrors buried deep beneath the tower.
King Elessar has sent a call for heroes, tasking them with leading a final strike against
the stronghold before Zaruth’s dominion can spread beyond Mordor’s borders. The
adventurers must infiltrate the shattered tower, destroy its corrupted heart, and prevent
a second darkness from rising.
Adventure Hook: A Gondorian commander, Captain Valen, has assembled an elite
strike force to assault Barad-dûr. The adventurers join this company and are given a
crucial mission: enter the tower’s depths and shatter the Obsidian Nexus, an ancient
relic that fuels Zaruth’s power. However, dark creatures still lurk in the ruins, and not all
of Sauron’s secrets were lost when the Ring was destroyed.
Act 1: The March to Mordor Crossing the ashen plains of Gorgoroth is no small feat, as
the land itself resists the presence of the Free Peoples. Along the way, the adventurers
face:
• A band of Black Uruks, elite warriors who swear fealty to Zaruth.
• The Ashen Tempest, a storm of fire and shadow that whispers of the Dark Lord’s
return.
• The Broken Watchers, remnants of the fell statues that once guarded the tower,
now imbued with vengeful spirits.
Act 2: The Black Tower Barad-dûr is a ruin, yet its foundations remain strong. The
adventurers must navigate its labyrinthine depths, where corruption festers in the
darkness. Key locations include:
• The Hall of Wailing Echoes, where the voices of fallen orcs and men still scream
in agony.
• The Vault of Unfinished War, containing weapons and artifacts forged for battles
that never came.
• The Obsidian Nexus, a great pulsating monolith at the tower’s core, where
Zaruth channels his power.
Act 3: The Shadow Reborn As the adventurers prepare to destroy the Nexus, Zaruth
appears—revealing his true plan. He has uncovered the Black Phylactery, a shard of
Sauron’s soul, and seeks to use the Nexus’ power to forge a new Dark Lord. The final
battle includes:
• Zaruth, the Ashen Heir, a sorcerer wielding dark fire and deception.
• The Phantom of the Eye, a spectral echo of Sauron’s will, which manifests if the
phylactery is activated.
• A desperate choice: destroy the Nexus at the risk of collapsing the entire tower, or
claim its power and reshape the fate of Mordor.
Conclusion: If the adventurers succeed, Barad-dûr will be utterly destroyed, and the
threat of Zaruth ended—for now. However, rumors may persist of hidden vaults deep
beneath Mordor, where other remnants of Sauron’s power lie in wait.
Rewards & Future Hooks:
• Recognition by King Elessar and the Free Peoples.
• A relic of Mordor, either cleansed of its darkness or tainted by lingering
corruption.
• A grim warning: “The shadow has been cut, but its roots remain… buried and
waiting.”
