PLURAL NOUNS
GENERAL RULE:

Singular noun + s = Plural Noun Twelve singular nouns ending in –f or –fe change

the –f or –fe to –ves.


Examples: (calf, half, knife, leaf, life, loaf, self, sheaf, thief, wife,
table → tables wolf)
car → cars
Examples:
calf → calves
knife →knives

Some nouns have got an irregular plural form.


Singular nouns ending in –s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o + Examples:
–es = Plural nouns foot → feet

Examples: goose → geese


tooth → teeth
watch → watches
louse → lice
brush → brushes
mouse → mice
tomato → tomatoes
ox → oxen
fox →foxes
child → children
Words of foreign origin ending in –o just add –s
man → men
Examples: woman → women
piano → pianos
kilo → kilos

Singular nouns ending in a consonant + -y Remember:


change the –y to – i + -es = Plural noun. Adjectives do not take –s in the plural.

Nouns ending in –y following a vowel just add –s
