(alli)

Change Control: Nagesh Bharadwaj, Version: 2 Updated- Feb 21, 2025

In Kannada grammar, Sapthami Vibhakthi ( ) is the

locative case, which indicates the location or position of
something. It answers the question "Where?" ( ?) and the
answer is usually There (alli) or Here ಇ (illi) and is usually
formed by adding suffixes like:

 - (dalli)
 - (nalli)
 - (ralli)
 - (yalli)

ಅ – is a, ಉ is u, ಇ ಎ ಐ – is i, e, ai respectively in the
pronunciation table
While using ‘alli’ for any English word, it is a practice to add a ‘u’ at the end in Kannada.
So ‘car’ becomes ‘caru’ in Kannada.

Examples

Word Ending with u add “inalli”

bengaluru (place)+inalli +ide = bengalurinalli ide (u goes off)

Word Ending with i, e, ai add “yalli”

Huballi(place)+yalli+ide = hubballiyallide

mane (house)+ yalli+ide = maneyallide

kai(hand) )+ yalli+ide = kaiyallide

Word Ending with a add dalli

dharawada+dalli+ide = dharawadadallide (

Numbers add “ralli”

ondu +ralli + ide = ondarallide

Plurals add “alli”

manegalu (houses) becomes manegalalli

nadigalu (rivers) becomes nadigalalli

For English words add "u" in the end to get Kannada version

car becomes caru ..since ending with “u” you add inalli i.e
carinalli

bus becomes bassu ..since ending with “u” you add inalli i.e
bassinalli
