II. Background Information for Learners

If you create and manage images for your business, you may have some video
files you’d like to enhance. Adobe and other software makes market
compositing programs such as After Effects that let you paint over video
frames. These applications are great for producing studio-quality movie
effects, but you have to purchase them and learn how they work. Using
Photoshop, you can select frames in any video and draw on them using
regular Photoshop tools.

1. Launch Photoshop, then click "File" and "Open" to view your files and
folders.
2.Double-click a video file and wait as Photoshop adds a preview image
of the drawing canvas. The Animation panel appears at the bottom of the
main window and displays various video controls and a video layer. Click that
layer to select it.
3. Click and drag the blue time indicator icon located near the top of the
Animation panel. The preview advances forward when you drag the indicator
to the right, and moves backward when you drag it to the left.
4. Drag the indicator to the location in the video on which you wish to
draw.

5.Click "Layer," "Video Layers" and "New Blank Video Layer." Click one of
the Brush tools and draw on the video. Click the “Play,” “Pause” and “Rewind”
buttons to preview the video.
6.Click "File," "Export" and "Render Video" to open the Render Video
window. Type a name for your modified video and select the export settings
you'd like to use when rendering the video. The drop-down menus here allow
you to choose a quality setting, size, frame rate and other properties. Click
"Render" when done and wait for Photoshop to render the video. A green
progress bar shows the rendering status.
