Pyoderma II

Paronychia
• Acute infection of nail fold
• Facilitated by cuticular damage
• Clinically as painful swelling of proximal lateral nail fold
• Bacterial c/s helps in diagnosis
• Treatment:
Incision, drain
Systemic, topical antibiotic

Periporitis
• Staph infection of sweat gland-pustule
• Face, buttock, upper trunk, scalp
• Erythematous deep seated nodules

SSSS
• Generalized confluent, exfoliative disease
• Neonates, children
• Exfoliative exotoxins type A and type B liberated by Staph
• Fever, tenderness, erythema in neck, groin, axilla f/b generalized
desquamation
• Diagnosis by HPE,
• Treatment systemic antibiotic

Secondary pyoderma
• bacterial infection in pre existing skin diseases( scabies, pediculosis )
• Treatment :
topical, oral antibiotic
Treat pre existing disease

• Treat predisposing factors
• Poor hygiene, malnutrition, recurrent trauma, DM, pre existing skin
diseases, congenital, acquired immunodeficiency,
Investigations – (recurrent, recalcitrant infections)
