Honeywell 2017 14
New Features and Enhancements

Redundancy
This release introduces the redundant controller. It is ready to go, there is no
need to program it any differently to a non-redundant controller. ControlEdge
RTU takes away the complexity. No additional infrastructure is required to
synchronize data between CPU and connect with expansion I/O modules.
ControlEdge Builder now enables you to:
n Configure redundant controller
n Manually switch over the primary to a secondary controller
n Monitor and diagnose the redundant controller
n Remotely upgrade the firmware

Wireless I/O
ControlEdge RTU comes with both onboard and expansion I/O modules to
hard wire field devices to the controller. In this release ControlEdge RTU also
supports connecting ISA100 wireless devices to the controller via the
Honeywell Field Device Access Point (FDAP). The FDAP is an ISA100.11a
access device. These wireless devices then appear as I/O to the controller.
The wireless I/O feature is enhanced to:

n Support sensor mesh routing and an increased the number of

ISA100.11a devices per controller
n Include wireless topology mapping
n Configure publication rate
n Map DD-driven points for SCADA
n Backup and restore commissioning data
n Configure I/O channels
n Bind and unbind wireless I/O devices with field devices
n Embrace wireless ZFS Sandbox in ControlEdge Builder
ControlEdge Builder is enhanced to:
n Manage device description (DD) of ISA100 devices
n Provision ISA100 devices over the air
n Configure ISA100 devices
n Monitor and manage wireless devices
n Remotely upgrade wireless device firmware
For more details, see the ControlEdge RTU specification.

ControlEdge PLC Integration SCADA Channels only:
Occasionally when upgrading firmware on a
ControlEdge 900 CPM at the same time as having
the related Experion SCADA controller ‘enabled’,
controller variables are no longer updated in Experion
even after the upgrade is complete and the controller
is in the run state.

Recovery: Disable then re-enable the related

Avoiding Divide by Zero Error in the Program

Abstract: In an IEC -61131-3 programming environment like ControlEdge
Builder, it is possible to configure a program that is prone to have divide by
zero errors. If this occurs at runtime, the controller will stop executing the
program. To view the error, connect ControlEdge Builder to the controller and
open the Project Control Dialog in the IEC Programming workspace. The error
button will be red. On clicking it, an error, “Runtime exception! Division by zero”
is shown in the “PLC Errors” tab of the message window.

Consequences: If the divide by zero situation occurs in a running program, the

controller will stop executing. All output channels will go to the failsafe state as
configured in the program. The likelihood of this occurring is dependent on
the programming and if the divisor/s in question are ever likely to return
exactly zero.
Recovery: Cold reboot the controller. This can be performed from the builder
or by removing and restoring power to the controller.
Workaround: When using a divide function in the IEC61131-3 program, ensure
appropriate error checks are included to avoid the divide by zero situation
from occurring.
