CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Contest Mechanics
1. The competition is open to all bona fide/officially enrolled students at Northern Iloilo
State University - Main Campus.
2. Each college must have a team of 5 to 15 members, regardless of the numbers of
male and female (composition). A 3-point deduction will apply if the team exceeds
or falls short of the required number.
3. Performances must last between 3 to 5 minutes. For every 30-second excess of
time limit will result in a 5-point deduction. Music must be relevant to the theme,
content of the storyline of the dance shall be gender-sensitive and non-
discriminating.
4. Props are allowed but must not cause delays or hazards. Prohibited props include
oil, confetti, pyrotechnics, smoke generators, combustible materials, broken glass,
live animals, and sharp objects.
5. Choreography must be appropriate, avoiding vulgar, offensive, or sexually
provoking acts and be automatically disqualified.
6. Costumes and accessories (hats, caps, gloves, scarves, jewelry, etc.) are
permitted. Changing of costume during the performance is allowed providing it is
not provocative or sensual in nature.
7. Judges’ decisions are final and irrevocable.
8. In case of a tie, judges will break it and decide who will be the winner.
Criteria for Judging
1. Theme Relevance & Interpretation (30%) – The performance must effectively
embody the theme of “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat and Bukas sa Bagong
Pilipinas” #WecanbEquALL
2. Choreography & Creativity (25%) – The routine should showcase original and
creative dance moves, smooth transitions, expressive storytelling, and innovative use
of space.
3. Technique & Execution (20%) – Dancers must demonstrate precision,
synchronization, control, and mastery of contemporary dance techniques, including
fluidity, strength, balance, and flexibility.
4. Performance Quality & Expression (15%) – The performance should display
energy, confidence, strong stage presence, and emotional connection with the
audience, effectively portraying women's struggles and triumphs.
5. Costume & Visual Impact (10%) – Attire should be appropriate to the theme and
dance style, visually appealing, and complementary to the overall performance.
