Factory features an original score composed by Marc Shaiman with
lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) and a book by David
Greig. The score also pays homage to the Leslie Bricusse/Anthony
Newley score from the 1971 film with songs from the motion picture
including "Candy Man," "I've Got a Golden Ticket," "Oompa Loompa
Song," and "Pure Imagination."

Special Thanks
To the Production Team, we are blessed to have each and every one of you!
We asked you to join us to roll out the Red Carpet for our kids and you have
done an amazing job putting this musical together. Please be sure to check
out the Production Team page and give each of these amazing team
members a hug when you see them around town. There is nothing we could
do to thank each and every one of them enough!!
Again this year, we asked for the mega important role of being a rehearsal
volunteers. Thank you so much to Sam Garvin and Neremaan Qureshi who
answered the call consistently, week after week coming to rehearsals and
supervising students.
A big thank you to the Carter Family and Fortreum for their generous
donation of our Super Saturday dinner!
Thanks to the small army of amazing parents and student volunteers who
gave their time to build our set. We believe the enormous turnout we had on
each of our set construction days breaks a record for the most helping
hands we have had in any year! Thank you!! We truly believe that
volunteering in our kids’ activities is the best!! The sets are a fantastic
collaboration between the creative minds of so many.
Thanks to Eric and Nathan Dohr for painting the stupendous show logo sign,
which welcomes all our guests as they enter the box office!
Dress rehearsal meals are an important part of our preparation as they keep
our energy up and provide valuable bonding experience for all those involved
in the show. Thank you to these local businesses as they help feed our cast,
crew, orchestra, direction team and volunteers: Los Tios, Il Cappero,
Wegmans, Deli Italiano, and T’Kila Mexican Restaurant. Thank you to the
army of volunteers who donate time and food to these meals!
Thank you to Katie Johnson, Mike Surma, David McKenzie, Anne Grazier,
Kim Walters, Susan Ferguson and the entire Belmont Ridge administration
as well as the front office staff and of course the custodial staff for
supporting RiverHawk Productions, show after show.
Thank you to the PTO, and especially Ferri Riar and Sammaad Shams, for
your ongoing support and ever ready assistance.
We so appreciate all volunteers who donated their time and talents from the
very beginning of planning until the last curtain falls, from the front of the
house to the darkness backstage. As we started the show we invited you to
visit The Candy Man and you came out and helped in a myriad of ways. It is a
challenge to specifically thank when there are so many that contribute
directly and indirectly to this and every show!
10
Special Thanks (continued)
We so appreciate those who come back every show, whether it be in Whoville, or for a
sail on the chocolate river, and every show in between you continue to keep getting
the job done for our kids, and that is what it is truly all about! We strive every year to
enter a world of Pure Imagination and we always stay true our RiverHawk family
through the years.
We would like to thank our husbands, Bill McDonald and David Sawyer, for
supporting the many hours and for keeping things going at home while we juggled all
the preparations for the show and you have both proven yet again that there is More of
Him (you both) to Love. The role of the producer’s husband is an important one and
we appreciate all the things you do to make this all possible!
A very special thanks to our vocal director, Jill Kerr, and our orchestra director, Mike
Jones. Seeing you work with the students always confirms that from the Overture to
the Finale all the beautiful music we hear will be amazing. We could never truly thank
you for the dedication you show to the kids and to our show and the tireless number of
hours you poured into this production, you make the students sound so beautiful,
both on stage and in the orchestra. Jill has taught the Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory music brilliantly and all the while has been learning and preparing the music
for her next three musicals at the same time, it is safe to say there are always many
melodies in her mind at all times. Thanks to you, we all love a good top note!
We were so incredibly lucky to have Megan Sawyer, as our wonderful student director
(and daughter extraordinaire)! Megan’s dedication to the show and the bond she has
formed with the students has made us so happy to see! Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory wouldn’t have been the same without your mentorship, your wonderful
choreography, and all the many leadership skills you have demonstrated throughout
the musical season.
In every way possible Mr. A is our very own Willy Wonka! This Little Man of Mine (ours)
makes this experience incomparable and the place to be each spring. Charlie, You & I
feel like saying thank you never seems enough as you dedicate your heart, soul, and
talents to continue to challenge and motivate the students, always ensuring they
always have an experience like no other, we know that the students will look back at
this experience with nothing but the greatest memories and stories of their time in our
program. If Your Father Were Here he would agree (and if it is Saturday of red cast, he
is, in fact, here…see if you can find him!!) Your dedication to the cast, crew, orchestra,
BEMS and to the community have been appreciated from the beginning of that cold
dark winter of 2012 until The View from Here disappears into our memories.

Jason Augustowski, Department Chair of English at
Riverside High School is stoked to direct Charlie and
the Chocolate Factory for RiverHawk Productions
this spring as the seventeenth show at Belmont
Ridge Middle School and his forty-fifth show overall!
He has directed twenty-three shows and one film with his production
company Infinite Arts, four for the Piedmont Arts Foundation, and one for
the Players on the Potomac. These shows have garnered over 100
awards from national adjudication associations. Jason attended Virginia
Tech, where he earned a B.A. in English and an M.Ed. in curriculum and
instruction. Having participated in theatre in high school, and filmmaking in
college, Jason’s greatest privilege has been working with these incredible
students. They are truly some of the greatest human beings and most
talented performers he has ever met. This show, as always, is dedicated
to them. Thank you for coming and being part of a tradition that has posi-
tively influenced the lives of all teens and adults involved. Enjoy the show!
17
Artistic Biographies (continued)
Since this time, he has directed the orchestra in the spring each year and
has enjoyed directing the orchestras for Shrek (2014), Tarzan (2015), The
Little Mermaid (2016), Mary Poppins (2017), The Hunchback of Notre
Dame (2018), Freaky Friday (2019), Newsies (2022), Wonderland High
(2023) and James and the Giant Peach (2024). Mike feels privileged for
the opportunity to once again introduce young musicians to theater and
to work with such a dedicated team of directors, volunteers, and parents.
theater to make new friends and little did I know I would meet lifelong
friends on this stage.. In fact, almost all of the people closest to me in life I
met on this very stage. I wanted to try to give others the same experi-
ence that I had, and help students discover new things about themselves.
I remember waiting backstage with my friends, eager to perform for an
audience and I hope that all of the amazing students in this production feel
the same. I had the opportunity to learn about and teach 191 kids and I
wouldn’t have traded it for anything. This experience helped me discover
my love for teaching and I am planning on pursuing elementary education
in college. I hope that I can leave positive impacts on every kid I meet.
This show could not happen without the help of many, MANY parents
spending countless hours behind the scenes. Thank you all for your sup-
port and help! To Mr. A and Mrs. Kerr, thank you for being such amazing
mentors to me and your constant support.
Last but not least, to the students in this production. I hope that this jour-
ney has been as fun for you as it has for me. Thank you all for making this
experience unforgettable. I have learned so much from all of you.
Now sit back, relax, and enjoy watching these talented kids perform!
