INTRODUCTION
In the mid-18th century, during the Industrial Revolution, the first steam engine
was created. This invention, developed by James Watt in 1769, enabled the
efficient conversion of heat into mechanical energy. The steam engine paved the
way for the development of more complex technologies, such as railways and
steamboats, and later, internal combustion engines that revolutionized
transportation in the 19th century.
ARRIVAL OF AUTOMOBILES TO OUR REGION
In the early decades of the 20th century,
automobiles began reaching remote regions,
including Mexico. Baja California was one of
the first areas to adopt them, with Ensenada as
a focal point thanks to figures like Jack
Collins and Abelardo L. Rodríguez, who
promoted the region's modernization. The
arrival of automobiles transformed daily life
and spurred changes in urban infrastructure,
such as the paving of streets.
Problems Arising from Mass Automobile Use

Proposals for a Sustainable Future
● Public Transportation: Invest in efficient and accessible systems.
● Infrastructure for Pedestrians and Cyclists: Create safe and functional spaces.
● Recovery of Green Spaces: Design more livable cities.
● Promotion of Sustainable Mobility: Encourage alternatives such as carpooling and electric
vehicles.
Conclusion
The automobile, while a symbol of progress, has also generated a series of
social, environmental, and urban problems. It is crucial to rethink our
priorities and design cities that serve people, prioritizing sustainable solutions
that improve quality of life and protect the environment.
